Early Thaw starts with Mr. Freeze writing a letter to Nora - his still living wife. He is in Arkham Asylum in winter.
This can’t go well.

When his free time is up for the day the guard removes his head from his robot body and takes it back to his cell. The robot’s exceptional strength has been removed so Victor can’t escape.

Nora D’Anjou’s husband receives the letter and puts it in a drawer.

At night, Batgirl and Batman are on a stake out.

It’s too cold for crime.

-10º!

They follow a cab that takes them to Arkham Asylum. The cab is carrying Nora.

She visits Victor Fries and gives him a component that will restore the enhanced strength to his robot body.

I need you Victor. I’ll be waiting.

On watch, Batgirl and Batman hear over the radio that Mr. Freeze has escaped Arkham Asylum.

Freeze meets Nora at a laboratory somewhere. When he comes in she is just hanging up a phone call. Victor overhears something about money. He asks if she needs money.

She tells him she’s working on a rejuvinative chemical for an unknown party for $10 million dollars. She’s in over her head. Only he can stabilize the formula. She’s afraid she’ll be hurt if she doesn’t come through.

On the roof with Batgirl, Commissioner Gordon and the bat-signal, Batman wonders why Freeze broke out now? Gordon knows. Two hours before he broke out he had a visitor. Bullock comes in to announce a break-in at a chemical company.

Batgirl and Batman bust into the company to find Nora and Freeze. They fight. Nora giving some good punches. Freeze encases Batgirl in ice and Batman gives up the fight to rescue her. He takes her to the batcave.

Nora and Freeze drop off the formula and take a suitcase full of money. As they leave Nora sees that Roland Daggett is picking up the money.

A gut-punch ending! You kind of expect it with Mr. Freeze stories, but still.

I kind of knew how it was going to turn out - there’s even some foreshadowing in the background if you look.

But still lots of twists and excitement.

The art wasn't quite up to the usual standards, but it was good enough.

A very strong 4, but that ending makes it 5 stars.
