The Thea Stilton series are of variable quality, but generally readable. This one isn't.

This was super cute. I picked it up because I like the art style and because all things Geronimo Stilton or Thea Stilton are wildly popular with kids, and I had never read any. It's bright and positive and a bit more complex than I expected. A breath of fresh air, really. I might have to read more of them!

I do have two questions that I suspect are not answered in the other books, as they're probably just part of the setting that you're supposed to accept. But here they are anyway:

1. Are these human-sized mice? Do humans exist in this world? (Probably not.) Are there any non-mouse anthropomorphic animals in this world? In this book, the mice encounter baby seals that are not anthropomorphic, don't speak, and are much smaller than the mice.

2. Style questions: why do the mice have human-type hairstyles, even though Geronimo and Thea Stilton appear to just have normal furry mouse heads? Wouldn't it be weird to see a mouse with a ponytail? Of course, seeing mice with these human-like proportions (and tiny little tails!) would be pretty weird, regardless of hairstyle.

The way they choose school presidents in this story is totally bizarre [you could easily get a three-way tie], but the overall story is a lot of fun. The competition for the presidencies is interrupted by an ecological disaster that's pink, a sure clue that the evil Vissia de Vissen's cosmetics company had something to do with it.
Kids may notice that cheaters don't exactly prosper in this story, but they don't get caught or punished, either. Still, the story is a lot of fun, and the cuteness of the baby seals will get a lot of response from the target audience, which is largely the girl half of the Geronimo Stilton readers. Boys will enjoy it too, but this series is more heavily aimed at girls.
The actual challenges for the presidential candidates were clever and interesting, in that the winner needs a mixture of brains and brawn to succeed. That's refreshing, since it's true for the girls as well as the boys.

The concept of showing how they cheated was a bit too much especially if the middle school kids were going to read this.

Ah, the nostalgia... I used to be lowkey obsessed with the Thea Sisters, and this graphic novel was one of my favourites. Probably because one of my first fictional crushes was centre stage, and there was no romance with Pam (other than in the next books 😑).

Doesn't have the same hold on me as it used to, but I love remembering how much I loved these books.

1. I think this book tells the story of mice, their lives, their adventures and their love.
2.I think each mouse has a different character, and also talked about the life brought about by their character. In the beginning of the book, the story of a group of female mice high school students. As the book continues,a group of female mice high school students flourished in school, experienced many things together, and the relationship became very good.In the end of the book, their relationship is getting better.

I literally dreamed about this book. And actually getting my hands on it was one of the greatest feelings. It was so worth it.

Reread review:

I think what I enjoyed most about this book was the expansion of Vic's character. Vanilla is just evil for being evil's sake, but Vic is a special combination of cocky, clever, and cringe-fail. He's never actually mean to anyone. You'd assume he thinks of others as below him, but he passed up every opportunity he had to make fun of Shen. Hell, he even made conversation with Shen and asked for his help. He knows his mother and sister are rotten, and he doesn't exactly encourage them, but he doesn't rat on his family either. One detail I also really enjoy is that he's not naturally gifted. He struggled during the brainpower contest, his assembly go-kart was extremely janky, and I assume he was only good at sailing because he lives on a yacht and sailing is a rich kid activity. He's complex and I like that. It's a shame he's mainly a comic character.

Overall, this book was just a lot of fun. I liked how simple the main conflict of the competition to become Lizard/Gecko president was, to that point I was actually very disappointed when Nicky found the baby seal on the beach and it became about environmentalism again, like in the last book. The characters were all very memorable in their own way, and notably, not a single one of them is perfect ; they act like flawed college kids. Alicia is one of Vanilla's flunkys, but even she had a specific individuality about her.

I'm endlessly entertained by the diction in these comics. The way it's narrated and the way the characters talk is somewhere north of American but not British?? Everyone's so well-spoken. I had to google several words throughout my reread and I want to think it's a result of the series being a translation from Italian. Either way, the prose is fascinating and I'm honestly digging it.

The art was phenomenal (which I have to mention, because I know what we have coming 3) and the world-building of Whale Island has been one of my favorite things to notice. Great comic book, looking forward to the next ones!
