Taildragger Tales: My Late-Blooming Romance with a Piper Cub and Her Younger Sisters

Rate this book
Dan Ford learned to fly at the age when most men are well into retirement. In this short book, he tells how it was to have a flight instructor one-third his age, to make a Sentimental Journey to the Pennsylvania airport where the Piper Cub first saw the light of day, to practice spins and aerobatic turns in a Great Lakes biplane, flies low and slow in New Jersey, to make a leisurely tour around Lake Winnipesaukee and into his past, and to have a close encounter with the National Defense Emergency of September 11, 2001. A delightful read for anyone who ever dreamed of becoming a pilot. Revised edition October 2012. About 11,000 words (44 print pages). Updated 2015

My first plane ride was in a Piper Cub and I was thrilled. This book was interesting and it was fun to learn more about the plane. I got a little lost in all the technical terms at times, but overall I enjoyed the book.

The narration held a personal touch that added to the feeling of the emotions and love for flying and the planes.

It is never too late to Start

Very nice collection of essays that shows the shear joy of learning to fly, no matter what you age. And to do so in a Piper Cub makes it even better.
