Smurffit smurffaavat näissä smurffimaisissa tarinoissa kaikenlaista smurffia!

Peyo The Aerosmurf 56 pgs. Papercutz, 2013. $5.99 Content: Language: G (0 swears); Mature Content: G Violence: G

This is actually a collection of 6 short comic book stories featuring the Smurfs and Gargamel. The first story is the aerosmurf, the rest range from pie throwing mayhem to a pet dragon. They are fun adventures and very wholesome.

Ever since I read the collected works of Peyo, I can’t even look a smurf in the face, let alone read the prolific noun and verb replacements of the word smurf in these stories. Therefore, I have put this book in the bottom of my pile for years, sorry! At my school library the students recognize the smurfs, but have zero interest in checking the books out (we have a few leveled readers). If they are popular at your school, this would be easy to add to your collection, but they aren’t my favorites by far.

I have to admit, I never learned to like the Smurfs as a kid, and they're hard to take as an adult.
That said, if the smurfing dialogue doesn't drive you crazy, then it's a smurfing good smurf. No, really.
Some of the stories in this volume are so repetitive that it's annoying, but there were a couple of good ones, especially "The Masked Smurf" and "The Smurf and His Dragon." In those, there's slightly more story than just the usual "Smurfs behave according to their stereotypes while thwarting Gargamel" story that had become too standard by this point in the series.
"The Firesmurfs" also has some cute sight gags, especially with their zero tolerance for fire.
Kids who enjoy the Smurfs will get a kick out of this book, and it's probably better than the movie, which I still refuse to see.

I loved the smurfs as a child, and I still love them today. The book is filled with fun smurf language and engaging pictures filled with excitement. As a graphic novel it is great for children of all ages from those just learning to read to older ones. The illustrations and text work well together to convey the story to the readers.

My 4th grade son loves these. They aren't too creepy, aren't too deep, and super funny (to him). Although as a girl, I was always bothered by Smurfette's singular status, and her blonde ditz persona was annoying. When the girl Smurfling came along, that was a bit better.

Anyway, the original graphic novels are still the best.
