The Miraculous Results of Extremely High Doses of Vitamin D3: A year-long Experiment With Huge Doses of the Sunshine Hormone From 25,000 to 100,000 IU/Day
This updated edition has a fascinating new look at diabetes as an evolved defense to freezing damage in winter gone out of control- Don't miss it!
Book description: 144+ Pages of Fact-Packed Science Based Information-But FUN to read- Upon realizing that taking 4,000 IU of Vitamin D3 a day was not enough for me, I decided to embark on a "dangerous" experiment that directly contradicted everything MD's had told me for years:
” DON'T TAKE TOO MUCH VITAMIN D IT IS DANGEROUS!”
I started taking 20,000 IU a day-50X times the recommended dose of 400 IU a day. After about 4 months upped the dose to 50,000 IU a day or 150X the old recommended “safe” dose I then boosted it to 100,000 IU a day or 300 x TIMES the old maximum safe dose!
What happened over these last 10 months? Did I die? get sick? No! Just the opposite!!
High dose Vitamin D3 therapy over the last year-CURED ALL MY CHRONIC CONDITIONS-SOME THAT I'D HAD FOR 20+ YEARS!
1.A painful snapping hip syndrome which I had been suffering from for 23 years and no Dr could help me-It is now 100% gone. No pain and NO SNAPPING!! 2.Yellow fungus infected toenails (under the nail)- I tried everything over 20 years and nothing worked-10 months of high dose Vitamin D3 and they are clear as a bell! 100% cured. 3.A knobby bone spur on my elbow that made me look like Popeye the sailor man-It has now 100% dissolved and my elbow is back to the way it used to be 20 years ago. 4.Painful , clicking, popping, stiff Arthritic shoulders that prevented me from even throwing a ball from home plate past the infield. A condition I’ve had for 15 years. Gone. No more popping snapping or clicking and I can throw the ball twice as far . 5.A ganglion cyst that persisted on my wrist for over 5 years has shrunk from the size of half a golf ball to the size of a pea and now it is rock hard ,painless, and shrinking. 6.A small subcutaneous cyst on my face that had not gone away for 20 years –now gone! 7.AND-Without even trying my weight has dropped by 25 pounds from 204 to 179. This book tells you detailed results of my experiment, dangers to avoid, and also discusses a simple and elegant new theory that suggests how High Dose Vitamin D3 therapy Should help PREVENT OR CURE all the epidemics of disease and health issues that have been plaguing us since the 1980’s when Doctors started warning us to stay out of the sun and always use sunscreen. This has created the huge epidemics we see today of Obesity, Autism, Asthma, and many others!
The theory is simple-Vitamin D3 is a hormone that your skin makes when you sit in the sun, it is not a vitamin it was just mislabeled when it was discovered. When your Vitamin D3 levels are low, your body gets you to prepare for winter by overeating, slowing you down to conserve energy, and even making you depressed to keep you housebound. Interestingly it is this same drop in Vitamin D3 levels that signals a bear to start hibernating!
If your body expects famine-like conditions caused by winter to be likely- it will conserve your critical resources for the future. This leads to what I call the Incomplete Repair Syndrome which in turn causes most of the diseases humans face other than spontaneous gene mutations that cause syndromes and diseases caused exclusively by aging. High D3 can be used to prevent or treat a huge number of diseases MS, asthma, 17 kinds of cancer, lupus, arthritis, heart disease, obesity, depression, Parkinsons+many more...
This IS the better mousetrap! Most MD's get just a basic 4 years in Med School, then work to earn not learn.
I've been trying high doses on myself for the past three months, going up to 12,000 iu; I feel very energised have an overall sense of wellbeing when I'm taking high doses.
I'm not sick or depressed or anything, I'm just always looking to better my health.
If you're taking high doses of vitamin D3, you have to counter it with a correct dose of vitamin K2 in order to prevent arterial calcification.
That's why I read this book because i wanted the correct dosages because I believe it to be proper knowledge for when i get older and start developing certain things associated with old age; I'll be able to treat it with massive D3 doses.
This book helped me more than I can say. I've had arthritis problems all of my life. The additional vitamin D3 has worked better than all of the meds and chiropractors in the world! A must-read!!!!!
Ok, its a lot of rambling and he repeats himself a lot but there are a ton of gold nuggets as well.
In very short: Most of us are deficient in the Hormone know as Vitamin D. Most of us are inside all day and when we go outside we slather on sunscreen. This D deficiency has many negative health-related consequences. And studies - many anecdotal - but some empirical as well have shown that supplementing Vitamin D has major health benefits.
Most mammals have some sort of hibernation response to the changing seasons. Not all sleep for months like bears but virtually all have a response of fat storage and slower metabolism. Humans , he says (and I would agree) also have a hibernation response - although not as pronounced as some other mammals - we still slow our metabolism down and try and store fat for the harsh season ahead. Vitamin D is the signal to the changing seasons. When we have a lot of vitamin D (way back when we were outside for most of the day and getting it from the sun) our metabolism speeds up and doesn't store as much fat due to the abundance of the season. Conversely, when Vitamin D is low its a signal to our bodies that food is going to be scarce and we need to slow down and store fat.
Unfortunately, most of us lack enough Vitamin D so our bodies are in constant hibernation mode (storing fat and slowing metabolism).
Mainly, due to this book (and some other supporting literature I have read) I currently supplement vitamin D.
I have received multiple emails from people who have been helped by my study. For ailments such as arthritis, psoriasis, and plenty more, consider giving my book a read. It's available on Amazon's Kindle.
Yes, yet another book about D3. With my fibromyalgia and diabetes type II, I have found myself sick of meds that not only don't work but are dangerous in themselves. So I am researching to take control of my own health.
I don't know what to think about this book. There is a lot of research and information given. I like that it is based on real studies. The author brings in many great points.
Mr. Bowles puts his personal story to the forefront. I like that. I hate reading just facts and figures and trying to make sense of the sciences involved. Bowles makes it clearer than others I had found. There are a lot of URLs to click that drive you to sites of clinical trials and results. That is great. That means if I want to hand it to my doctor I can and feel halfway intelligent in the process.
But the book is never finished. In a lot of areas, the author leaves old information and just throws in a parenthetical update. Many authors go back and update their books. Kindle will send you notice or you can go into 'Manage My Kindle' to pick them up. But it is confusing all the (...) and (...). I think the old version should be given, i.e. 'In 1987 I weighed this amount or we believed this...' then follow it with, 'Now I weigh, or now studies show...' And it would flow much easier.
Bowles puts a lot of emails from people that have tried his method and failed or succeeded and adds his reasoning as to what happened in actuality. I liked that. It kept it personal.
I think what I like about the book, I dislike equally. (Hence the 3 stars). The book seems quite long, but it is mostly the studies that are spelled out or referenced in the end of the book (starting at about 50%).
I did appreciate his hard work and sharing it will all of us. I learned a lot and know I can go back for my own references. I think everyone should read this. You don't have to agree, just know it is there. I think going a more natural way is better than all the side-effects of medicines that are prescribed.
I love this book, I love books that makes you aware of a secret that was hidden from you. This book is a must have if you are looking to know all that is about Vitamin D.
I still have some criticism about the the way this book was written though, the structure is more like a journal, sometimes too much repetitions or a bit conflicting results.
Nevertheless, it is a great book.
I will try the high doses on myself and see how applicable are the information for me, then I will keep you updated.
Life-changing information; poor structure and writing style The information about vitamin D presented in this book has made me appreciate the fundamental importance of the sunshine hormone on all animal life. For this, I am very grateful, and would give the book 5 out of 5 stars. However, the lack of organisation and structure, the repetitiveness of the contents, and the generally scattered nature of the writing style together with an overdone informality would make me give it a 1 out of 5 stars. Hence, the 3/5 stars is an average. Nonetheless, I think the contents and the convincing nature of the arguments put forward have the potential to help a lot of suffering people, and in fact, maybe practically everyone in the developed world, where we live indoors for most of our lives from birth to death. Therefore, I think everyone can benefit from reading it, or, alternatively, just starting to supplement with large doses of D3 and K2 to benefit from the "miraculous results" this can bring about.
I am so grateful to have come across this book. I want to thank the author for taking the time to do the research and create such an informative book. I surely will benefit from this book being Im 35 years old and is scheduled for a hip replacement surgery this year. For now I’m currently taking 8,000 IU’S of Vitamin D and 180mcg of K2 with 400 mg of magnesium daily and vitamin A. I have less pain! I will up my dosages after reading this book to 50,000 for a month and then see my bodies response from there. I do not want surgery so I’m praying this works. I know it will benefit me greatly! I must share this book with everyone I love. Thank you again. -Taiger
The message of this book is loud and clear: our ancestors lived in the tropics, running around but naked under the sun. Ever since we migrated to north we lack the abundance of sunlight they enjoyed and with that a huge lack of vitamin D which is now in need to be supplemented.
Although some conclusions in this book are a bit hasty, I don't argue with the underlying message. What I do mind is a bit amateurish writing style (which comes through even in Slovenian translation) and a huge lack of certain important references. That would buy this book some more credibility and at least one more star in this review.
Some interesting information, although in a very poorly edited package. Not very well written at all, yet I learned a great deal and will continue to research more as a result.
What I find absolutely pathetic, however, is that the author personally insults and harasses anyone who leaves anything other than a 5 star review of his stuff. He hides behind fake profiles and hurls nasty insults, as well as leaves himself glowing reviews to skew the ratings. That's really immature/insecure middle school stuff, Jeff Bowles - you're embarrassing yourself.
Should be required reading g at all schools starting in middle school!
I've been aware of the benefits of vitamin D3 for quite some time. Just not the specifics that Jeff gets into. Truly revelatory stuff in this excellent and very well researched book. I'm especially impressed with the research and theories about why so many diseases and ailments and obesity rose to such high levels beginning in the early 80s and I concur it seems very likely it's related to lack of sun and sun blocks. Read this immediately and improve your life quickly!
Great information, horrible delivery. Indentations are everywhere, at least 6 different fonts and font sizes within paragraph text (not even counting headers), endnotes are just floating in the back with no connection to what they're citing; and this is just the things that could have been fixed in Microsoft Word!
Bowles' writing logic is extremely disorganized, it's like he has multiple drafts competing with each other within the text. Takes ~80% of the book for the reader to finally get his recommended Vitamin D3 AND K2 dosage (10:1 btw), which is vital toward avoiding Vitamin D toxicity. He doesn't share the dosages for other co-factors either is frustrating but at least not deadly (~500mg Magnesium and 6-9mg of boron btw, he recommends Borax for boron in other media but I don't recommend it).
The topic of Vitamin D toxicity is probably the biggest problem. He downplays it a lot through the first third of the book and then - due to competing drafts *within* the text - he seemingly becomes more realistic about it and stops making fun of it being an issue. He has a newer video interview from YouTube (from 2021) where he downplays the toxicity issue even more, going so far as to mock people who do come down with it as "idiots" who didn't follow his advice because "it's rare."
This is very dumb and disingenuous on his part because Vitamin D toxicity is only rare because 90% of the Western population has the opposite problem: too little Vitamin D. However, that's not the sample size, dummy, of who would even be subject to Vitamin D toxicity. It would be like saying drowning is rare and including in the sample size people who never swim, while addressing beachgoers. He is addressing people about to embark on mega doses of Vitamin D, so no, downplaying its risks is actively dangerous talk due to the framing it creates and yes, HE IS RESPONSIBLE for any toxicity issues that arise from it.
Checking his "success stories" on his website and I even saw him haranguing an Indian woman for "ignoring his advice" and not taking K2 with mega doses of D3 for her autistic son. The truth? She couldn't find it during the beginning of COVID when supply chains were all messed up, and she didn't even blame his advice! He continues to doubt (!) her story of not being able to find K2 and cites random "friends" in India who "could find K2" and continues to blame her. Insane stuff.
All in all mega-doses of D3 with K2 can help a lot of people (along with its co-factors of Magnesium and Boron to avoid hypercalcemia, a very real risk which can destroy your kidneys if done improperly...due to a non-medical professional over-promising and under-warning) but Jeffrey Bowles is a perfect example of the dangerously destructive egos involved in the medical world, mainstream or alternative, who never view themselves at fault for anything, only everyone else.
The author has stated his conclusions based on Internet materials, reader feedback and emails he received from readers on the basis of his initial publication. Wait a minute (that’s his style rubbed on me after reading this shitty book), the author himself is the only clinical trial for all his claims, he is the living supermarket of diseases and all his diseases just vanishes after high doses of vitamin D3 & don’t forget, it has to go with vitamin k2 as D3 itself will deplete k2 and cause toxicity. The key term that defines the book is human hibernation syndrome means when there is not enough D3 the human body starts preparing for hibernation and creates obesity, high BP, diabetes, and (this I combine 2 of his write ups into one to send his message) slows down autophagy resulting in less scavenging of dead cells and thereby causing even cancer.
So have loads of D3 and compliment it with K2 and then everything that you can think of as diseases will just vanish. Maybe there is valid point that getting enough of D3 is useful to remain healthy and I take home this message and I request all to take the message but this book is not based on any clinical trials or samples: I even doubt if the author is a doctor after reading this !
Last word. Do try to ensure vitamin D3 gets a top priority in your health checks and make sure you take supplements enough quantity.
After reading books from Vitamin D science experts like Dr. Cannell, Dr. Hollick and Dr. Zaidi, this book seems written by a child rambling about his adventures at the amusement park, with ideas and theories all over the place, few scientific references to his affirmations, a lot of guessing and very disorganized in general, NEVERTHELESS he's a passionate guy about the topic, obviously had read a lot about it and has personally experimented on it, so it's certainly worth reading it to get a perspective from the common man (even Dr. Cannell said he found the book interesting, but don't think this huge 50,000 iu doses are necessary to achieve the benefits of the Vitamin D). So, to conclude, I recommend this book to get a different interesting perspective, but don't expect to much on the quality of the writing. It's more like having a long chat at the bar over beers with a knowledgeable Vitamin D fan where you can ignore half the things he's saying that with a book author or a professional on the subject.
The author doesn't use conventional book writing formating or layout. He is all over the place. His writing style is run-on conversational with a very scattered train of thought. He is a researcher but actually uses personal anecdotes as his evidence of effectiveness of higher level of D3 supplementation. The actual book is only about 20% of the actual text. The rest is copy and paste from Wikipedia and Abstracts about D3 from PubMed. I don't think I really learned anything new from reading his rambling on, except maybe that higher doses may help with healing. Sad, because I was hoping to be informed and educated. Glad I have Kindle Unlimited and didn’t actually have to pay for reading this as I read a lot and my Kindle Unlimited subscription more than pays for itself. If Jeff wants to be taken seriously he would use more structure and convention that just rambling on. Even his updating is just inserted in parentheses, in many places, in the original text. This is not formal editing.
Every once in a while, I come across a book that just literally blows me the fuck away.
This book blew my socks off. Jeff T Bowles, you da man! Thank you. You'll always be a legend, sir. You're such a pure hearted gentleman.
I feel grateful for having found this book, recommended by a friend from Haryana (desa mei des haryana, jahan doodh dahi ka khana).
Truly life changing stuff here. The cure for all diseases (including auto immune) is optimal doses of Vitamin D3 along with Vitamin K2.
99% of the world's population is deficient in Vitamin D3.
Fuck the pharma mafia industry. Fuck the govt who are in nexus with them. Why do I say this? Because Vitamin D3 is not a fucking vitamin. It is a vital, miraculous hormone made by the human body when sunlight hits the skin.
They have been lying to us for decades.
The lies get psychopathic when they tell you that the sun is not good for you. If sun is not good for humans...my God! If someone believes this non-sense, they're idiots. Since the 1980s, when this propaganda of sunscreen began, diseases have skyrocketed all across the world...
Optimal dose: Initially take 50,000 IU D3 a day along with 100 mcg of K2. Then after 10 days, start taking 25,000 D3 everyday with 100 mcg of K2. (K2 should be of MK7 type)
Just read it.
Take the D. You look pale and moody. Frickin' take the D.
This book has an incredibly cringe-worthy title. It doesn't help that it appears in all capital letters on Amazon and on Goodreads and to boot the Author's website looks like one of those scam websites that might give you a virus if you click around too much on it.
However, based on my own experiences with D3, I will say he's on to something. There is too much hyperbole, speculation, and anecdotal evidence, but the actual scientific research he highlights is solid.
For me at least, D3 is pretty critical for a positive mood and energy levels. The theory that low energy and negative mood (i.e. depression) evolved as a response to periods of low sunlight during winter and in order to conserve energy (a sort of mini-hibernation in humans) is pretty solid. The idea this might extend to delaying or not healing wounds makes sense, but personally I don't have much experience in that area.
I just finished this book. I upped my dose of Vit D to 20,000iu and K to 2500iu, 3 days ago. We will see what happens and will report back. I have lower back pain, and overall pain. I am 69 years old with 2 knee and 2 hip replacements. I wish I had read his book prior to surgery, but it is what it is, no take backs on joint replacements. I am encouraged to try the increase of Vitamin D to assist with my other issues. I am lucky to get 4-5 hrs of good quality sleep. I am taking high doses of melatonin after reading Jeff’s other book. I think I see some difference in my sleep. I have not upped my dose of melatonin just yet, currently at 120mg. I also lack the energy that I used to have. My wife, who is a nurse, is going to start taking a higher dose. She has a torn meniscus and surgery scheduled in a month.
First I will commend the author for his courage, for trying something different. What attracted me to his premise was the idea of avoiding sickness by getting enough vitamin d. There is very much something to it because I have been using tanning lamps regularly and I have avoided both the cold and flu. I am 63, so I am not a young rooster. However I was struck by the fact that when he talked about evolution, (which was quite a bit) , he often talked about evolution as if it could think and plan.. If evolution has intelligence and forethought why not just called it for what it is: intelligent design??
Originally I was going to give it 3 stars because he theorized too much, but I wanted to commend his innovative approach.
This book is very different from every other book I have read on health matters. It is written (with no apology) by a self experimenter, as it says on the cover, and is written in the form of a dialogue or conversation, throughout. This does not detract from the information contained in this well researched book. All his claims and theories (of which there are many) are either backed by evidence based research, or, he comes straight out with the theory, looking for something to support his hypothesis, which he seems to find. An interesting read, containing valuable information, even if it is a bit muddled.
Jeff T Bowles presents an informative and well researched book about an essential vitamin, D3. Often taken for granted, Vitamin D is essential to every bodily function. Jeff Bowles calls vitamin D the "immune / repair" hormone because vitamin D supports the immune system and also repairs damage to the body.
Although informative, this book was not easy to read because of the format. This book reminded me more of a ransom note rather than a book. It wasn't divided into chapters; it was more of a series of sections.
Still I found the information here incredibly useful!
Content was very scattered and redundant. Too many speculations without scientific evidence to substantiate his conclusions. Testimonials are fine, but hard numbers are infinitely better. Should have solicited someone to co-author this book. Despite these short comings, I was able to assimilate the underlying support for high volume D3 argument. It certainly piqued my curiosity to the point where I'll have to see for myself if boosting my D3 intake will have any effect on my current and long-term conditions.
Jeff T Bowles is a brave guy and a hero. Why? Who else would lab rat himself to do such an experiment. I tend to think he will save thousands. He will show you how to take vitamin D3 the right way, and will show you the combinations of supplements to take like K2 and Magnesium to increase your levels. It might be the most important health supplement book you may ever read. Thanks Jeff...
Well, I really enjoyed this book. I liked the author's writing style, it is conversational almost, as if he's excited to tell you good news. And, he really is walking the walk by experimenting on himself and sharing his experiences and those of others taking high dose D and K2. Lots of good info, I'm excited to start up my own experiment on myself. :) I started a couple of days ago, in fact.
The author gives an eye opening perspective on degenerative diseases, their causes, and their cures. I believe it is the author's intent to picque the readers interest in investigating personalized paths to customizing their own cures. Once you have read it, I think you'll agree it is an essential addition to anyone's health library. It's a wild ride!
This author, by his own admission is not qualified to write on this subject. The book is very disorderly and repetitive with no narrative. The author jumps back and forth between different topics. The ideas are interesting but I wouldn't rely on this book in making decisions about health. There are better books available on this subject
Glad I didn't pay for this. It is rambly, but stresses the need for high vitamin D supplementation. Vitamin D research found in PubMed proposes links to modern diseases such as cancer incidence, cancer mortality, autism incidence, depression, etc. Quite interesting to be honest. Overall, read or not, get some sunlight and supplement vit D.
Thank you Jeff for a wonderful book! I loved all the information! You gave me much to think about. I appreciate the testimonials and it has inspired to me to judiciously crank up my Vitamin D levels as well. I have a few interesting experiments in mind and I will report back. Take care - talk to you soon!
