What a stupidly good book. I am pleasantly surprised. This book is a tasty snack, taking about an hour to read the whole thing. I had to read this book for school, but I cannot recommend it highly enough. Some portions of the book might not be as gripping to some readers due to the nature of the book, but I think I would read this book if it was 4 times as long.

As a synopsis, this book provides 4 enthralling speeches, provided by award-winning toastmasters from the world level (I might be getting some of that wrong), and the author breaks the speeches down to explain why they work, how they work, and how they can be applied in our own conversations, presentations, and speeches.

This book was funny, inspirational, and educational. A big issue that I have with some self-help books is that they almost always seem repetitive by the end of the book because they want to drive home the important points. This book did not do that. Maybe that has something to do with the length? Hm. Maybe I wouldn't want to read this book if it was 4 times as long after all. Maybe that's a key that he could have touched on- comedic timing and all that. I feel like I would be fine reading 16 speeches, but it might have to be without the commentary. *shrug*

I definitely think that I want to check out these competitions though. They seem incredible. What's crazy is I read 4 speeches. Read them. The script! And it was entertaining! I didn't click the links to watch the videos only because I was short on time, but MAN. I'm definitely going to be showing them to my wife later. Each speech was like its own movie.

Next time I have to speak in front of a public gathering, I'll have reviewed the nice tips at the back.

Consider getting this book.

A manual on how to put a great presentation together and deliver it with conviction and panache

Does the thought of presenting feel with you dread , don't know how to start, fill out the middle and then reach the end, with your audience still in the room and still awake! Then this book, full of tips and sage advice, is a bit like completing a jigsaw puzzle, each part carefully constructed to interlock easily together, eventually revealing to your audience the wonderful picture that you wanted your presentation to be. A great must read book.

This is an excellent primer to telling stories and can be applied to many disciplines. My expertise is in training and development and this book is an excellent guide for navigating development with the learner's engagement in mind. I appreciate the light approach to the art and science of storytelling, so thank you!

Great insight!

A good outline on speech preparation. If you’ve ever given a speech you probably used some of the techniques intuitively. This read guides you and brings an orderly structure to your speech. The checklist is invaluable.

Storytelling tips from pros

The tips are good but the whole experience is of an infomercial. However some of the free video links do not work anymore, instead you go to an add to buy a course.

Some good thought to apply toward public speaking, but I really didn't care for the examples of speeches given. I am aware they are all award winning speeches so I am sure it is just my personal view. I just felt that the speeches were a bunch of fluff and very superficial in their context.
