And when strange things start happening to her new neighbors, Ivy's snooping sense kicks into overdrive. Will she unravel the mystery? Or will the threats to her safety scare her away? With Invisible, readers laughed so hard they cried. In Plain Sight, the second Ivy Malone mystery, promises to be even better!
"Aunt Ivy, for a sweet, harmless little aunt, you do seem to get yourself in an unusual amount of trouble." With her tiny frame and possum-grey hair, Ivy Malone is your typical LOL (little old lady) and feels invisible to most people…but she likes it that way! With her love for mystery stories and her mutant curiosity gene, Ivy is just thrilled that people seem to look right through her, for it allows her the chance to probe into the strange occurrences that seem to dog her every step and to add her two cents to the crime investigations that have lately come her way. Unfortunately, she's not always one-hundred percent invisible to the criminals she helps to nab, as her recent run-in with the nefarious Braxton clan has taught her. With their very real death threats hanging over her head, Ivy decides to play it safe and heads to Arkansas to hide out at the lakeside home of her niece, who has recently relocated to Hawaii. As luck would have it, though, Ivy quickly becomes involved in another strange case when she takes a job as a housekeeper for a wealthy young woman whose very life - and subsequent death - is a mystery to the rest of the community. Will the young woman's killer - or the evil Braxtons - quench Ivy's thirst for mystery by putting an end to it permanently? Or will Ivy be able to elude her pursuers and solve the crime before someone else winds up dead?
Like a wild ride in Ivy's sometimes trusty old T-bird, this book is a nice adventure with a sleuth who puts a great modern-day spin on one of my favorite amateur detectives of all time, Miss Marple. Though not quite as funny as the first book in the series, it's still an entertaining read that's sure to have you laughing at least a couple of times and, in addition, will remind you that God is in control even in the craziest of circumstances. You may be invisible to the world, but you're surely not invisible to Him!
Having read the first book in this series I was so looking forward to the next one. The first one kept me in stitches the whole time, whether she was in the cemetery watching for vandals- all the way through to when she climbs out the window of a dirty bathroom in a junk yard. This first book was so well written and just had such an appeal and I fell in love with Ivy Malone just like she was a friend I had right next door.
This having been said the second book very much disappointed me. I was so looking forward to a really good story again and there were some very good parts in it but I felt that it was a bit contrived and I knew who the victim was going to be and just who had murdered her. The constant reference to the Braxtons, trying to find her and murder her is a bit much and tiresome, I felt it was time for Ivy to move on to other adventures with her old friends and leave that group behind.
I like how Mac has come back into her life but their romance either needs to move a bit faster or be dropped altogether and besides I like the lawyer guy better anyway.
It is a good story but not a great story is all I can say, so I give this book a 3. But I have already read book 3 and …….. so ....
In this book Ivy has yet again gotten herself into trouble and has a crime to solve. After getting death threats from the Braxton clan for solving and arresting one of their own, Ivy has decided to go on the run. Ivy took up her niece DeeAnn's offer to live with her in Arkansas in order to get away. While staying with her family she picks up a job as a housekeeper for a very rich woman named Leslie Marcone a couple days a week. Since she has been working for her she has noticed Leslie is very secretive and keeps to herself but doesn't think much of it. One day she comes to her house and finds her Mercedes parked haphazardly by the lake next to her home. She goes to investigate and finds Leslie's dead body floating in the water. Ivy takes it upon herself to find Leslie's killer and bring them to justice. While keeping an eye out for clues to the murder, Ivy tags along with her grandniece Sandy to go babysitting. This is no ordinary baby sitting job because they are babysitting a dog. Ivy meets Baby the huge great Dane and its owner Tammi Ridenour, wife of local news reporter Brad. While babysitting Baby, Ivy decides to snoop around their house and finds a letter talking about Brad and Leslie's romantic involvement with one another. Ivy is shocked to find out of Brad's affair with Leslie. She realizes that if a certain person found this information out it could be very bad and even push them to murder. To see who the killer is read this book. I liked this book very much. I couldn't stop reading it because of the humor and suspense. I give this book 5 stars because its a good book to read for all ages and will make you laugh out loud. Its very entertaining and keeps you on your toes. It has a great story line and is part of a series so you can keep on reading. Everyone should read this book!
This was a quick read. Who would think that a little old lady would make should a great detective. Ok I know you are saying, "What about Miss Marple?" I loved her character also. Maybe I'm getting to close so that age myself (almost 55). I've started book 3 in the series and I'm loving that one also.
I love the ingenuity of this series. I have read three of them and each one is different. I plan on starting #4 later today and I can't wait to see what happens to sassy Ms Malone. I like the Christianity aspect and that it's part of the story without being the story. I am a Christian, but when I read a murder mystery, that's what I want to read. There are no bad words, either. A blessing.
Ivy has to leave town for her own safety, but that does not mean she doesn't stumble into more mystery! A couple old friends pop into the story along the way, and we get to see Ivy's niece in book two. Also a large dog named Baby.
Another aspect I appreciate about this murder mystery series is that the detective, Ivy, actually has a conscious about lying. The mysteries include spiritual content without waxing too preachy, and she is a likeable character.
Ivy is a spunky old lady and a strong Christian. She is a very lovable character. The mystery keeps you guessing and has surprising twists. Even though it is a murder mystery, Lorena McCourtney's humor and the main character's Christian perspective of life keep these books light-hearted, encouraging, and entertaining.
This is the second Ivy Malone that I have read. And I enjoyed it. Although I still feel that some of the dialogue is over-the-top and cliché, for this type of novel it's not surprising . I do find it strange that I find Ivy extremely annoying and far too much of a busy body . As he justifies everything in the name of her religion. As a Christian it's a bit annoying because I don't agree with that. I'm sure i would say no one is perfect. And I would argue that a person who knows they're not supposed to do something because it anyway is not a Christian. I know my Bible as good as Ivy does .
This is a standard cozy mistreated people that like that type of book will enjoy. I have nothing against Ivy I just think she's silly and that he tracks from story for me and I'm an LOL.
This book picked up where Invisible left off. Aunt Ivy is still sleuthing even though she's hiding out from the bad guys in Book 1. She seems to get herself right in the middle of police cases. It is refreshing to me how she calls out to God for His protection and wisdom to help her escape situations of her own doing and acknowledges her need for, and belief in Him. I'm glad this is a series where I can tag along with Aunt Ivy from the safety of my favorite chair.
Never a dull moment with Ivy! Just about the time you think she is surely going to settle into some normal routine, another totally unexpected person or event or situation pops up and everything changes. She is resilient in the face of danger but never stops being so REAL. She stays firmly within the protective arms of her Lord no matter what storm or chaos she encounters. Great reading!
This is book two in the Ivy Malone mystery series and it was as good as the first. This one has Ivy heading down to house sit for her niece in a lake town. Great characters and well plotted mystery. Love the sprinkles of humor and the way the faith element doesn't feel tacked into the story but truly a part of it. Mystery number three in this series is in my mental to be read pile. Yes I have a physical and a mental to be read pile.
I didn’t read the first book of this series but after reading this one I don’t think I will. The book was good but slow paced with a lot of stuff thrown in that to me seems as though it didn’t really matter. I just keep putting the book down because I got bored of the story.
What an interesting mystery! I love the story, the characters and the mystery. Very entertaining! I also appreciate that Ivy is grounded in the Bible and relies on God. She is also very funny and I frequently laugh out loud!
The second Ivy Malone murder mystery ... sweet little old lady turned crime solver ... not nearly as entertaining as the first volume in the series ...
