When Blaze Shinozuka got his dream job, he never imagined within a year he would be fired. After a botched performance with Cassie, he’s kicked off the tour — and so is his boyfriend Jason Stockton — but Blaze is determined to live his dream again and he may have found the perfect band to do it with.
He will stop at nothing to be back on stage, though the costs of stardom may bring an end to his romance with Jason. Can Blaze have it all? Or will Blaze have to leave his first love behind to follow his destiny?
Writing romance since the tender age of 13, Lori Toland somehow finds time to play video games and watch movies while taking care of her cats and husband. I'm also a secret cat.
I was very eager to grab up this next installment in The Replacement Guitarist series after the events at the end of book two. Things were left in a crazy spot and I just couldn't wait to find out what happened next for Jason and Blaze. After closing the cover on this one, I'm still processing. This is a truly strong set-up book and does its job as the book before the big finale. It has left things in a place of shock, pain, high intensity and promise for what is to come. Anyone who gets to the end of this story will be left chafing for the finale.
The stories all move forward connecting strongly to the ones before and after so they most definitely need to be read in order. This is also a strong hint that if you haven't read book two then there will be mild spoiling so proceed at your own risk.
The story picks up right after the shambles from the awards ceremony. They try to process and move on even as they continue to adjust to being a couple. Jason is in earnest about helping Blaze continue as a band musician even as Blaze works through his nerves about continuing to pursue this dream. Blaze is so happy with Jason and wants to come out to the world about it. Jason is equally happy with Blaze, but is always worried that Blaze will move on and he is very concerned that if they come out it will damage Blaze's career. Another band opportunity comes their way that will involve Jason as manager and Blaze as guitarist so they eagerly take it. The band is a good fit for Blaze, but now he and Jason are separated a lot with their work as they promo the band and Blaze goes on tour again. Just when it looks like things are really doing well, a painful part of their past shows up, they vehemently disagree saying words that they can't come back from causing things to unravel fast.
I have a visual of a Sleeper Wave when I think of how to describe this entry in the series. There is this normal ebb and flow through the story as the two guys try to recover from being cast adrift from their jobs at the end of the last book, but then at the end of this one suddenly I had my legs knocked out from under me when I least expected it leaving me flabbergasted at that ending. Fortunately, I was expecting it particularly since the author stated that she had to break this third book up to continue things in the fourth. That being said, I was so immersed in the story's present without thinking ahead that I still got taken by surprise. So yeah, the Sleeper Wave was an apt description.
The story took on a slightly different tone just as the one before did to the first one. It has to do with how far these two have come along in their relationship. They are an established couple and they've now come out to their families, but now like any established couple they still have some issues. Jason is older and tends to take the lead which annoys Blaze. Blaze has a bit of a temper and speaks before he thinks usually his words cut the vulnerable Jason. He's young so I resisted the itch to bop him up side the head for this stuff. The pressures of the music industry along with the decision to announce they are a gay couple just adding more stress to their relationship.
Foreshadowing is strong so even though I said earlier that the end came as a shocker, there was a part of me that expected something to blow the lid off of things. At times, there is almost a desperation to their passion like they can sense trouble coming. By the end of the book I was edgy and just waiting for the other shoe to drop. This might sound like I'm complaining, but its not. I enjoyed being along with these two as they loved, squabbled, worked and even when they hurt each other. I can't wait to see how the author pulls it all together for the ending.
I would recommend this series to those who enjoy M/M Contemporary Romance with the music entertainment industry as the backdrop and the romance on the hot and spicy side.
My thanks to the author for sending me this book in exchange for my honest review.
The third book in the series. Alas, there needs to be a book four. I really thought I could wrap it up in book three but Jason and Blaze threw me for a loop. - Lori Toland
That quote above, I stole from Goodreads and it should have given me the hint that this was going to be a totally different book, and that, yes, it will throw me off for a loop. I should have taken more notice to that hint. grrrrrrrrrrrrrmeeeeeeeeeooooowwwwwwspiiiiiiiiithhhhiiiiiiissssspat!
Okay, so I have vented my frustration! There!
Now, for the review itself.
The title, Into The Fire, should already have been a warning that life for these two men is not a bed of roses and domestic bliss is definitely not going to last forever. Some things will come up, be they predicted or not, and they will unbalance anyone even if they think are prepared for it. For this third book of the series, it is one year after Blaze Shinozuka gets his dream job and lands himself a partner he will love forever: Jason Stockton. They have had a year of an almost blissful life and knowing the business they were in, both men think they have the right weaponry to protect themselves.
Apparently not.
When both men get fired by that bitchy witch of a pop diva Cassie, both men are floundering and the question from book two, if their love was enough, is now going to be truly tested. Both men are at their most vulnerable in this installment and both of them seem to handle their little problem pretty well. They get closer, they realize their love for each other is getting deeper and they feel nothing will tear them apart.
When Blaze gets signed on with another band, it seems their life will get back on track. Then Cassie is back in the picture for the new band will now have to be the opening act for her new concert and, again, she pulls Jason in. With all of her instabilities and insecurities and bitchiness. This may be due to their long history together, but Blaze is livid Jason is concerned for Cassie and things spiral out of control.
As can be read from my words, I really do not like Cassie and I am now left wondering where this will all end? I was gobsmacked stumped when I reached the ending and obviously frustrated about it, but then again, I am a curious cat who can hissssss all I want. (I will have to demand for that fourth and last book. Summer according to the author)
What I loved about this story is how it ended. Does this surprise you?
It should not really for if and when you do read this, the story that unfolds will show how life can be unexpected and it should never be taken for granted. I have high hopes for Blaze and Jason, they are a solid couple and will get over this little bump in their life.
Let me growl: grrrrrr!!!! I am a huge Lori Toland fan and this book just solidified that fanship for she has written a book that made my heart thump so bad I felt it. I can only now wait impatiently and not so gracefully. I love Jason and Blaze and the thought of them together makes me smile goofy.... the thought of another book coming with these two is making me dizzy in a good way.
What the heck?!?!?! I happened to glance at the blurb before I started reading Into The Fire so I knew there was going to be a cliffhanger. But I wasn’t expecting THAT as the cliffhanger. My freaking heart it hurting right now. I can NOT believe you did this to me Ms. Toland! By the way, it’s the summer of 2014, where’s Encore because I need to read it NOW!!! I don’t want to wait to find out what happens next.
Despite the fact that I want to go all Misery on Ms. Toland and get my hands on Encore, I think Into The Light may be my favorite book in the series. I enjoyed how the departure from Cassie and her tour actually strengthened Blaze and Jason’s relationship. As they spent more time together and got to know one another better, their relationship deepened as they dealt with homophobia in the music industry and struggled with defining their roles within their relationship. And let’s not forget the sex. I really didn’t think she could do it, but Ms. Toland made the sex scenes even hotter – if you can believe it.
The struggles that Blaze and Jason deal with took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and add to the realism of the series. There is so much that goes on in Into The Fire that I was once again engrossed in the book. There is just so much that I can’t say because of spoilers and I will not do that to fans of the series. I NEED book four now! I. CAN. NOT. WAIT!!! I have to know what happens to my boys, so please, please, please write quickly Ms. Toland.

3.5 stars I have come to love Jason and Blaze. Both incredibly talented, passionate and loyal. Their families are important and they both seem thrilled to have this chance at love. So why oh why do they keep messing it up?
Blaze is not as crushed as I would imagine after being fired from Cassie’s band. He lives all the time he has with Jason, and they are learning to be together full-time. But Jason feels like he has to find Blaze the next big deal. Even if it means time apart, touring and working. Add in a truck load of insecurities for both of them and all sorts o f trouble arises.
When the two of them are alone or in a small group all is well. They are in tune with other and actually listen. Unfortunately that is not always the case. When Jason decides to give the worst person ANOTHER chance Blaze is furious. Words are said. And again they run away from each other-aaaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!
Need some serious maturing on both parts as well as learning to trust! As this book ends they are both going on new yet separate paths, and I just don’t know how they will get back to where they should be or want to be?
Blaze had his dream job with Cassie's band as a guitarrist , also He was sharing his life with boyfriend Jason until they got fired.
Blaze need to make the decision to potentially go back on tour or leave his dream behind to continue his relationship with Jason with no separation between them. Also Blaze wants to come out regardless of the consequences something that Jason claims could wait.
Something about this part of their relationship is different in a sense is a struggle between Blaze wanting to be his own person and Jason wanting to protect him ...
The passion and the love for each other is palpable but at this point the question if that is enough.
Another excellent part of the series ... I know more answers will come soon ...

I was fortunate enough to read Lori's The Replacement Guitarist Series. This is a four book series (although book 4 won't be out until later this summer) that follows the love story of Blaze, the replacement guitarist, and Jason, the manager of the band he is hired to complete a tour. The moment Jason walks the the door, he falls for Blaze. Blaze is gobsmacked by Jason.
From that day on they share their passion for each other and for music. The series is full of misunderstandings, passion, love, and awsomeness.
I cannot pick my favorite of the series, because it is not complete yet, so I will just say that this series is worth reading. I felt for both Blaze and James. I pray that all turns out the way I want it to! Buy these books! 5 Hearts for the series!
Life is never easy for Blaze and Jason. After both are fired, life is suddenly not so simple. They are very happy in their relationship, but Blaze is not happy that they are still closeted. Jason believes that Blaze's career will be ruined if they come out. Blaze no longer wants to hide.
Opportunity knocks on Blaze's door once again. He's got an a shot at not one, but two bands. Will they accept him for who he is? Will Jason agree to come out? Will their relationship survive the pitfalls of a society that thrives on innuendo and scandal?
I have enjoyed following this series and cannot wait to read the next book!
Wow, Blaze and Jason just strike you as the perfect couple, but when times get tough they both just seem to give up on one another. I don't like Cassie at all, she seems to cause nothing but pain and problems for those around her. I hate where this book ended because I really wanted resolution now, I don't want to have to wait for it.
With regards to overall writing, storytelling, and character building, this is the best book in the series so far. The story, and half of our romantic duo, also began to make me incredibly angry, but in a way that seemed to be a logical extension of the story so far, so I can hardly hold it against the author. That said… Jason is really frustrating and pissing me off as a reader, especially as a reader with some counseling background. In the first book, the two of them were both so green to the relationship, and about shared the blame for not doing things “right,” so to speak. In the second, while Blaze was still a bit of a brat at times, and made a lot of slightly rash and irrational decisions, likely not giving Jason the trust he should have, it was ultimately Jason who didn’t think about how his actions would come across, or what they would cause to happen further down the line. In this third, book, however, it goes many steps further. Jason seems to be set on pushing Blaze away, and not giving their relationship a real shot, nor in trusting Blaze the way he probably should, despite how much he seems to genuinely love him.
Overall, 3.5/5, rounded up to 4 due to the big bump in writing and storytelling quality, despite my extreme frustration with one of the main characters. I hope the final installment doesn’t disappoint, as it’s been a wild ride.

This is the third book in the Replacement Guitarist series following the relationship of Blaze and Jason. I was hoping that this would be the final book but there is a fourth one to come later this year, so yes there is a WTF ending for now and no HEA yet. Oh and what a shocker of an ending which didn’t even leave me with a HFN, because I wasn’t happy for now, I want to know what the eff is going to happen, NOW.
For those who have not read the first two books – The Replacement Guitarist and Home for the Holidays – please ensure you read them first.
It has certainly been a journey and finally we get rid of the awful Cassie….oh hang on… nope, the biatch is back to cause trouble again between the gorgeous duo. At the end of the last book, Cassie had sacked both Jason and Blaze, so the next stage of their story finds them moving on with Jason finding out new avenues for Blaze to continue with his talent as a rock guitarist. This in itself brings forth some uncomfortable interludes, especially in Texas. But finally a breakthrough is made when Jason helps an up and coming band who now need a replacement guitarist. That would be Blaze then.
However throughout all this Blaze is just worried this new stage of his career could take him away from Jason, which causes him to doubt his talent and the path he was yearning for. Thank goodness Jason helps to steer Blaze back on course.
Blaze is the younger of the pairing and often rants his mouth off before his brain is engaged but I just find that more endearing. I like though how he has grown in his confidence and this new bossiness he has over Jason. In deflection of this Jason can sometimes over think things and be over cautious instead of just going with the flow. Blaze is comfortable in his own skin and with his sexuality. As such he wants the World to know Jason is his and for them both to come out seeing as both their families were so supportive when they did with them. Jason on the other hand is not so sure and is conscious of the damage this can have on Blaze’s new found fame with the band. This was the main part that caused the friction between the pair and lead to some serious cases of self-doubt and jealousies.
Jason frustrated me at times but then on the other hand I totally got why he did what he felt he had to, especially in relation to Cassie. Being the better person he went along with his conscious but not realising how this would appear to Blaze.
In some ways I didn’t get the conflict with them ‘coming out’ as I’m sure Jason had said in the past to the press about his ‘relationship for the last year’ to the journalists at the beginning. I maybe need to go back and re-read that part. It was a battle to understand the reasoning at times with Jason.
However I still love the storyline and to see how it progresses with each book.
There were some areas where it didn’t flow as nicely as in the previous books and I felt it jumped from one thing to another with no link in between.
I would definitely recommend this series if you love your m/m romance set amongst the music industry and with some seriously hot and smoking loving going on! I give this a four star rating and a ‘hurry up’ for book four shout out!
This is the third book in The Replacement Guitarist series. You could read this without reading the first two, but I recommend you read them to know the whole story behind Blaze and Jason's relationship.
Blaze has just been fired as Cassie's guitarist. Jason has just been fired as Cassie's manager. They had a pretty public relationship while on her tour, but now that it's time to start over with their careers it means toning down how public they are. Jason has always been in the background of the music industry, but he is afraid that Blaze being openly gay will effect his career getting started again.
Blaze is ready to be public about their relationship once again. When he finally finds a band to join he wants to announce their relationship. Jason wants to once again wait. Will this put a strain on their relationship? What obstacles will they face?
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
When I started reading this book I just couldn't get into it. So, I decided to go back and read the first two books. I recommend you do the same. I liked Blaze from the beginning. He seems exotic and sexy. Jason, for the most part, is always looking out for Blaze's best interest. Sometimes this is a good thing. Other times I just wanted to reach through the book and strangle him, but he's still a pretty good guy. He's just that business guy first, loving boyfriend second. Both of these characters are awesome in their own way. I am big on a well written book, and that's what this was. It flowed nicely, and was an easy read. I'm not usually that interested in male/male books, but this one has a good story line to go with it. It did leave you with many things unknown, but that's why there's a fourth book! You will want to read that as well. I would definitely recommend the whole series.
I liked this series a lot, but I'll be honest and say that it wasn't until the Into the Fire that I actually became emotionally invested in Blase and Jason's relationship.
In this story Blaze and Jason are still getting used to the idea that they have been fired by Cassie. Jason is not happy with her decision but harbors no malice towards her. However, Blaze is just a tad happy to not have to work with her any more. Yes, he is disappointed that his first professional gig is over but he can't see the good in Cassie--not like Jason does.
Thankfully, Blaze gets a new gig and his professional life gets back on track. However, as with any new relationship, the blissful honeymoon days come to an end. Jason retreats into himself more and more. He continues to struggle with his fear of being abandoned which results in shutting out Blaze instead of letting him in.
Then there's Blaze who feels he's not enough for Jason. His fear lies in that Jason will soon realize he could do better than Blaze which would ultimately break Blaze's heart. Both men are scared of being hurt but neither one voices that fear to the other, which makes for some heated arguments and a lot of intense emotions.
And that right there is what I loved about this story--the range of emotions Jason and Blaze let themselves feel. From frustration over their situation to desolation whenever one man walked away all the way through to the fear of being hurt and the pain at realizing that their love for each other can't be enough to keep them together. Jason and Blaze felt deeply and their emotions only served to make me cheer for them to C-O-M-M-U-N-I-C-A-T-E. Gah! I wanted to smack them upside their heads just as much as I wanted to throw them in a room and let them screw their issues out! *sighs*
And of course, Lori Toland had to go and throw that little twist and end the book on THAT note! I'm so glad that I had the next book handy or I would've gone crazy waiting for it.
God why can't things be simple for this couple! I know why because it makes for much better reading, lol. I have lost over a day so far reading this series I cannot stop I'm like a Jason and Blaze junkie right now.
Life is never easy for Blaze and Jason. After they are both fired, life is suddenly not so simple. Together they are very happy in their relationship, but Blaze is not happy that they are still hiding in the closet about there relationship. Jason believes that Blaze's career will be ruined if they come out. Blaze no longer wants to hide.
I really want these two guys to stand on the roof tops and shout out how much they love each other! They are a perfect couple behind closed doors, but then the problems and tension start as they hide what they have together. Let me just out it out there right now, I actually hate Cassie she is a nasty character and I want to shack her so bad.
This story brought a whole new understanding about the turbulence Blaze and Jason's relationship would bring to each of them. Into The Fire had a ton of heat, and really seems to pull the previous two books together. I am broken hearted at the turn of events the pain and shock, damn tori are you trying to kill me!
When everything you have worked for to achieve comes to a stop and you get fired it can put a strain on your relationship! That is what happens in this mind blowing novel Into The Fire. This can be read as a standalone even though it is part of a series and book 3 (I haven’t read the 1st or 2nd) and didn’t feel lost but am curious. Blaze and Jason’s story will have you wondering what happens next because the sacrifices that they make shows how much they love each other. Especially when life throws you some rough patches! Blaze loves Jason so much he wants the world to know it but Jason wants him to be careful and wait for his career to take off. There is one weakness that Jason has, and it could cause issues in their love; but will Blaze and Jason be able to overcome this? Jason loves to be bossy while Blaze has a temper, these two balance each other out. Read it you will see what I am talking about. This story is about passion, love, new friendships and taking the next step. If you enjoy a good M/M novel grab this one.
An amazing Romance filled with fear of abandonment and ridicule. I fell in love with Blaze and Jason, this story brought a whole new understanding to me about the turbulence their relationship would bring to each of them. In the end what we have to ask is if you love eachother enough, can you handle what the world brings to hour door? I love their dynamic. I love how the love eachother. And I am broken hearted over how they let the outside bring doubt to them. I love this series if you haven't read the first book The Replacement Guitarists then you should read it first, because that way you get to be at the begininng of the beautiful romance that will steal your heart as it did mine. Lori I cant wait for the next one... hopefully soon!!!!

DNF @ 75% - I just couldn't anymore. These 2 MCs act like spoiled children. They don't communicate with each other & instead of talking things out when one says something that upsets the other, they get butthurt & flounce off in a snit. There was a scene early in the book where they attended a red carpet event as boyfriends then @ this point in the book they're having an argument because Blaze wants to come out. WTF? They've been together for over 2 yrs & I'm confused because they've been in the media together. So now I'm done. I won't read the last book in this series either.
