Crime/Thriller fiction book. 5th November 1971 Brutal gangland king Bobby Taylor is dead, leaving a void in both the East End underworld and his family. The police say it was suicide, but Bobby's son Mickey is having none of it. Although just a teenager, Mickey has the courage and the reputation to replace his old man - as the leader of his family, as the big man in Dagenham. Standing in his way are his dad's enemies and rivals, all ready to take their place as the big "I am" in the local pubs and council estates. But Mickey didn't earn his nick-name for nothing. And in the next twenty four hours Mickey is determined to see his dad laid to rest in proper East End style, resolve the mystery of his death, and take his place at the head of table. Mickey's nick-name? Dangerous. He's earned it with his fists, with his boots, with a knife. And now, with all the challengers creeping out from under their rocks to confront him, he's feeling really Dangerous.
I've just finished this book on my Kindle and I really did enjoy it and a must for all of those who love books by Martina Cole, Kimberly Chambers, Jessie Keane... I think you get my drift. This book has the same feel as early Martina Cole and is very gritty. I have read this within a couple of days cos I needed to know what happened to Bobby Taylor and glad there are more books to come involving the Taylor family.
Not far into the book and i was tempted to stop reading, but i'm glad now that i didnt, I did find it slightly repetitive in parts, but as its a first novel I feel there's more to come from this author, and i am now looking forward to reading her next book. I would recommend this to most readers that like this type of book. The chapters are about the different people and you can't wait to see how it is all going to come together, and it does. looking forward to reading her next book.
I try not to over analyse why I like a book, if I'm enjoying I simply can't put it down. Alas I could have put this book down a dozen times. I shouldn't have kept going but it became my walk over 15ft of hot coals. Full of contradictions and repetitions it grinds its way to an unsurprising conclusion. I read it so you don't have to.
Despite the contention that if you love reading Martina Cole and Jessica Keane, both of whom I have read, this book does not hold a candle to those authors.
Extremely raw, extremely violent to the point of being gratuitously so, the story line is weak .... and seems only to have the purpose of allowing the author to write about the violence of the East End of London.
this book is a really good read, keeps you in suspense right to the end so I couldn't put it down to find out 'who dunnit'. There is so much potential for the characters and I'd like to see/know more of them, so follow on or series books should be great (hint to SP;)
The Taylor family is born. A must read if you enjoy Martina Cole and Kimberly chambers. Already purchased the next 3 books can't wait to read the rest of the Taylor s ups and downs.
