So let’s get all the technicalities of a review out of the way: This was a well-written, even-paced narrative with little to no grammatical errors, solid editing, and very little heat (There were a few "interludes" but no actual sex). Now, on to the good stuff…
I have but one word to describe the story of Trevor and Camille: M-E-S-S-Y! And that’s an understatement! Camille and Trevor are childhood BFFs who are now adult BFFs, and I swear both of their brains put together don’t make a whole one.
Camille, or Cam, has been in love with Trevor since she was 13 years old. She’s now 30. You do the math. She’s been in love with this man for longer than most marriages, and this fool was too blind to see it until 2 weeks before his wedding. I’m like DUDE???? REALLY???? Trevor literally does not see that Camille has been pining over him until he magically sees Cam as a woman and not just his lifelong friend. He then starts piecing together fragments of their past together then he all of a sudden gets a clue. Men can be so dense sometimes…Oh, but peep the kicker: His fiancé Chelsea is Cam’s college roommate who herself saw that there was a connection but was like Nah, bump that, I’m bagging ol’ boy for myself, but not til after Cam confirms that “they’re just friends”. I have never wanted to reach thru my Kindle and drag a chick so badly til I met Camille Shanice Anderson! And to add insult to injury, Chelsea has asked Camille to be her maid of honor. Girl bye.
Now I’m going to stop here because you have to read this book for yourself. I’ve given you the preview, now you must buy your front-row ticket to see how this drama plays out. I was so enthralled; I even copped book 2 in Trevor and Cam’s saga because while they gave me perpetual conniptions, I enjoyed reading their story, and I do want to see how their story concludes. ***I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
Before I say anything, let me tell you that I did not finish this book. I got about halfway through and I couldn’t read any further.
This book was written like a fan-fic written by someone who has never written a fan-fiction before.
The characters are not believable, especially Trevor, his character is as flat as a pancake.
I respect the people who gave this book 3 or 4 stars, because it is a book you don’t really have to think about while reading and to some extent the idea of the book is cute, but I personally have never read worse.
The initial plotline was gripping and I found it quite direct, in that it held nothing back. Whilst I did enjoy reading it, however, I couldn't help feeling that there was something missing throughout.
Atter considering this, I've decided that it was the lack of detail. Whilst the book was fluid in the events that took place, I feel that I didn't not form enough of a picture in my mind, some more background on the characters I feel would have made them more realistic. In contrast to this I commend the narrative used. By reading through the eyes of both the main characters the reader felt an intamacy as if getting a sneak peak of their point of view on the world.
I understand it was a short story and by adding detail would have bumped this up dratlstically, I feel that by doing this (for instance revealing more background on the Camille and Trevor's younger life, and shedding more light on Trevor and Chelsea's pre-engagement relationship) it would have greatly enhanced the book.
For me personally I love the finer details in a book, as I feel this empowers my imagination, such as what the characters ate, descriptions of their surroundings, etc. Without these details I find that although gripping the story remained 2D for me.
On the whole, I think the story was enjoyable and took a no nonsense approach to getting the plotline across. I would reccomend this book to.maybe friends who don't read or get the the time to read as often.
Short story about what happens when you fall in love with your best friend and never say anything about it.
I saw a lot of "predictable" reviews and I have to say I disagree. I did NOT see Trevor's fiance Chelsea (who is also Camille's longtime close friend) turning into a bitch and basically saying she purposefully "stole" Trevor because she could see how much Camille wanted him! And it was NOT predictable that Trevor waited until the middle of the ceremony to decide he doesn't want to marry Chelsea! And I would have NEVER guessed that Camille's mom would punch Chelsea at the wedding ceremony when she called Camille a skank!
The story wasn't bad, especially considering it was a novella. The author fit a lot of activity in such a short story. My only gripes are that Trevor was such a wienie and Chelsea was such a bitch. I mean he was willing to go through with the wedding to Chelsea so as not to hurt her, even though he wasn't IN LOVE with her and knew his best friend Camille returned his love. And what kind of friend is Chelsea to knowingly pursue the man her close friend is in love with? And later continue on even though she realizes he loves her in return? I mean I know there are evil people and self sacrificing people in this world but these two are pretty extreme!
I still enjoyed this story, don't get me wrong! I especially enjoyed that I snagged it for free from Amazon! It was an entertaining way to pass the time.

This book was light and fun. I could relate to the struggle of the main Character Camille, as I'd been through something similar. I think there is a truth about the relationship Camille and Trevor have. Where are the boundaries when it comes to a guy and girl being "just friends"? It's a question I'm sure that many people have worked to solve. With that in mind, I found the book a bit relate-able. I would have loved to get to know the characters a bit better, but I found myself smiling and being frustrated right along with them (Camille and Trevor).
I can only hope that they made the right choice. :)
This was a quick, funny, somewhat predictable afternoon read. I was in need of something light and entertaining without a lot of tedious details and Camille and Trevor gave that to me. The storyline was a little on the simplistic side, but I enjoyed it for that reason.
I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. I love Sheena's style of alternating view points. I was very pleased with the ending. I will recommend to everyone.
“In Love With My Best Friend” was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.
The short story revolves around two best friends, Camille and Trevor, and their sudden (or maybe not quite so sudden after all) realisation that they have feelings for one another. Downside to this apparently wonderful thing is the fact that Trevor is about to get married to Chelsea, a girl they both met at college, which makes the timing of the emotional development inconvenient, to say the least.
I liked the way both characters slowly notice the changes in each other, look upon each other with different eyes, even though Camille has practically been in love with Trevor since they first met at age thirteen.
The story shows the struggle the main characters have to deal with in order to decide whether to either give in to their feelings or stay away from the consequences such a confession would ultimately bring crashing down upon them, considering their timing.
The fact that the points of view of the story, narrated in first person, switched sometimes was not a bad idea as such but I felt that the characters were not developed - and sometimes not consistent - enough for this to happen. Also, the author regularly slid in descriptions of the other person, describing reactions and emotions the first person speaker simply could not know.
I may personally not approve of the actions inside the book but I found that they were somewhat realistic in their description, even though I really, really wished for just a bit more detail. There was fluff missing around the dialogue to make the story feel a little more like a story rather than something a friend would be narrating over cocktails. I did like the easy flow this created for the story though, but when I read, I want to read more than just dialogue and what sometimes felt like a listing of actions.
In other places in contrast, there was almost too much detail. At one point (without spoilering), there is a dance class and the description of how the dance steps are supposed to be done carried on for extremely long – in comparison to the descriptions provided in between long passages of dialogue.
Another thing I would have liked to see more of would have been background stories, if not a lot, but a bit at least to give an idea on how Camille and Trevor interacted with each other throughout their lives. There are a few of these flashbacks but not nearly enough to give the characters more depth.
I would have loved to get to know more about Chelsea. I am hesitating between thinking she is a total b***h for the way she is behaving (aren’t they all supposed to be friends? Though I guess I can understand the sentiment.) but a bit of explaining of the actual relationship Chelsea and Trevor have, and had before the story takes place, would have been good, especially considering that apparently they didn’t live together?
While I liked the story, by the end, I couldn’t help but feel as though I was reading the skeleton story of something that would in the future grow into something a little bigger. Not a 600 page mammoth, but larger than the 87 pages it was on my e-reader. The potential is there!
(A few edits would be necessary though since there were time slips here and there.)
Generally I avoid potential cheating themes like the plague but since no review so far completely slam dunked the story and its short, I decided to read it.
And I was genuinely surprised.
Predictable maybe but this is a very realistic glimpse at how easy it is for best friends to let throw away comments and their fear convince them the other is happy with their arrangement. Camille and Trevor are not as it worked out but there’s the little problem of his fiancé Chelsea and their wedding that’s fast approaching.
Trevor will need to make a decision and soon.
I like my romances sexed up and action packed, this one is not one of those its clean in comparison but it was fast moving with just enough substance, given its meager pages, to keep the reader involved till the end.
In Love With My Best Friend, by Sheena Binkley, is a typical best friend to lover story. Trevor and Camille have been friends for seventeen years, since the day his family moved next door to hers. They have been best friends through high school, college and beyond. Trevor is engaged to marry Chelsea, whom he met when she was Camille’s college roommate. I say this story is a typical friend to lover story because as best friends Trevor and Camille talked about everything, except their feelings for each other out of fear of hurting the friendship. What made this story troubling was the fact that apparently everyone, including the bride to be, knew of the love, beyond friendship, that Trevor and Camille had for each other. If you are engaged to be married and know your fiancé is in love with someone else why would you want to go through with the wedding? The author rationalized it by showing that Chelsea thought that after the wedding she could force an end to the friendship.
While I did not dislike this story, it was not exactly my style of book. I enjoy a troubled, main female character, if she has a real reason to be troubled, not just because she is a wimp. I was even more troubled by the fact that Trevor admitted that he loved Camille and planned to still go through with the wedding. A real man would have never done that. My favorite character was Camille’s’ mother. So as not to write a spoiler I will not tell why. When you read the book you will understand.
I do want to read the next installment to see how the author pairs up Charles and Tia. They are both strong characters in this story and seemed to have many facets to their personalities that can come out in their own book.
This is my first time reading this authors work, and I must say that I am truly impressed. The title as well as the synopsis pulled me in but the great price of only $.99 was a deal breaker. Sometimes it's easier to take a chance on a new author when the books are not very expensive. After reading this book, I would have gladly paid more. Trevor and Camille's love story was one for the books. What do you do when you have been in love with your best friend for years and have to sit back and watch him marry another woman? Trevor finally realizes he has feelings for Camille but he is set to marry in the next couple of weeks. Things begin to heat up between the pair and Trevor has to make a very hard decision. I can't wait to start the next book in the series and look forward to reading more books from this author.
2.5 stars. This was an enjoyable short story, but I must say that it was very predictable. The narrative is in both Camille's and Trevor's point of views, and I liked that. It gave us a little more insight into what both characters were thinking. I'm a sucker for love stories, but I wish we had more background on these characters. We only get to know them as they are now, even though they have been friends for seventeen years. I would have loved a few more flashbacks from when they were in high school and college. Overall it was a fun quick read. *I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
Pros:It was a cute love story with a bit of sexual tension. A quick and easy read. Enjoyable.
Cons:Very predictable. Use of multiple C names (Camille, Chelsea, Claire) made for a little bit of character confusion. Characters not as developed as I would have liked.
Verdict:The book was enjoyable overall, although from the start I knew what would happen. The author's very simple writing style made it an easy read, but I wish the characters and the story had been more developed.
Rating:2.5
Source: I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
I gave this book two stars because the story was cute but the formatting was so horrible it made parts of the story difficult to read. Quotes running into each other so you have to untangle the mess to figure out who is saying what. Words hyphenated that shouldn't be. Not much in the way of character development either. I would have liked to know what the main characters were actually like outside of the romance. I probably wouldn't read this book again. I don't know if this would be on the top of my list of books to buy but I am still glad I read it because it did make me feel sad then happy which means this writer has potential.
Camille and Trevor have been friends since the day his family moved next door to hers 17 years ago. In a constant state of denial about their feelings for one another, Trevor is engaged to Camille' s college roommate and the wedding is three weeks away when he starts looking at Camille in a new light.
This was a very quick read. A light and easy romance. I enjoyed it and would read the next one in the series. I do wish there was a bit more to this story, a lot happens in three weeks but then again I think you don't see a lot of it just the highlights.
3.25 stars. Best friends admit and surrender to their romantic feelings for each other. The author presents the story through the voice of both characters: Camille tells of how and when she knew she was in love with Trevor and Trevor relates occurrences from his prospective. For the better part of the story, Trevor thought to follow through with his plans to marry his conniving fiancee, Chelsea, but in the end, his love for Camille won and they came together as a couple. It was an okay read.
When I read the synopsis, I thought that this could be a good book, but I'm sorry to say that I was disappointed with it. The whole story revolved around two best friends who just realized they had feelings for each other as the one is about the get married. But that was the extent of the plot...it had no depth and was quite boring. The characters needed more of a story to make it more interesting. Just an ok book.
Meh. The tension between the two main characters was decent. The fact that they were running around behind the fiance's back not so much. And the final showdown at the wedding was just stupid and slapstick.
I feel like there was potential, and maybe the story could have been a bit longer and developed a bit more and it would have been better. But mostly I was just feeling relieved it wasn't any longer so I didn't have to read any more.
An OK read, short and sweet. Cam and Trev drives me mad, especially Trev even though him and Cam have admitted to each other how they felt and he found out what a bitch Chelsea was, he still was gonna go ahead and marry Chelsea. Cam, I find a bit too forgiving at times of Trevor especially after the way she was treated by Chelsea and him changing his mind at the dying moment. Glad though they were able to sort things out at the end.
This was a good short story, i liked that it was told from the perspective of both characters, Trevor and Camille. It was a light read and it was really funny, specially the wedding part. I think it was a good read, even if it was a little predictable and the ending wasn't that good.
I really enjoyed the story. It was fun and fast. However, I do feel like the author could have added a bit of detail into the story, and lengthen the end a bit. Other than that, it is a story that I would recommend to people for a quick easy and enjoyable read.
This book was okay but I hated the way Trevor kept leading Camille on. He was committed to marrying his fiancee and wouldn't break that but he was kissing and loving Cam. The characters had ke so wrapped, I could have slapped Trevor. That os my sign for a great read. Overall I like it!
Another great book that I would definitely recommend as a good read. This is a boy next door type of read. The characters are real as if you could recognize as friends, family, co workers neighbors etc.
