LYNSAY SANDS is the nationally bestselling author who is known for her hysterical historicals as well as the popular Argeneau/Rogue Hunter vampire series. With her witty and charming personality, Sands describes books as, “Waking dreams or stories, tales to amuse, entertain and distract us from everyday life.” She’s been writing stories since grade school and considers herself incredibly lucky to be able to make a career out of it. Her hope is that readers can get away from their everyday stress through her stories, and if there are occasional uncontrollable fits of laughter, that’s just a big bonus. I am basically hopping in my TARDIS to give others what I wish I’d known before committing this to my reading shelf.
Maybe I’m just in an extra gritchy mood today, but I am writing this review on Book 1 as a massive warning for anyone who cares about world-building consistency. A Quick Bite starts off fun, but as this series drags on for dozens of books, the plot holes will start pissing you off more and more. You will eventually realize this universe has absolutely no rules, other than dropping blatant, gaping plot holes that make every single previously established law completely redundant.
"Sands consistently treats the laws of her own universe like minor suggestions. She relies entirely on 'convenience-driven continuity'—fabricating arbitrary new rules on the spot and using erratic rule-bending to create disjointed, illogical friction with everything that came before. The moment she needs to manufacture cheap, unearned drama, the biology, life mate rules, and core logic get thrown completely out the window. Sands will happily gaslight you on her own lore just to drag out an inconsequential, non-sequential conflict."
🚩Honestly, the only reason I’m giving this two stars instead of one is because I clearly have no self-preservation and kept reading the nonsense anyway. That’s how this series traps you. The first few books lure you in under the guise of "we are still establishing the universe." By book 5, you’re genuinely attached to the characters. From there, you find yourself locked in a weird, toxic relationship with these books—holding out for your favorite character's story just so you can finally shelve the series, only to be met with a total anticlimax. You keep reading anyway, hoping for a small dopamine fix, waiting for the plot to finally deliver. To quote The Rocky Horror Picture Show, I can practically hear the author whispering, "I see you shiver with antici... ," while she prepares to drop yet another massive contradiction on the very next page—and we never actually get the "…pation."
The Verdict:If you enjoy world-building that actually respects its own continuity, stay far far far away. Save yourself the long-term frustration and skip the investment (30+ books). It is a reading experience that requires you to actively purge your memory of past lore and simply coast on a vibe of mildly exasperated, ignorant bliss.
I love this series and highly recommend it to all. This is the Kindle Edition versions that includes multiple titles that could be a great value at the right price if you want to get them in bulk. This whole series is available in multiple eBook formats and all but one novella is available in audio format.
