Evil comes in all shapes and sizes, but seems more deadly when hidden in physical beauty.
Anson Poe hides behind a handsome face as he wreaks havoc upon those around him. Nothing touches his heart but power and greed; not the woman he married, or the four children they share.
Brendan Poe shares his father's stunning looks while trying to live down the shame. He does everything he can to stay out of Anson's world of crime until one hot Louisiana summer when he can no longer look away...
When the women who matter most in Brendan's world become pawns in Anson's need for revenge, he strikes back with a blinding rage, leaving Anson with the options of fight or flight.

Brendan Poe loves his mom and sister but hates his father. His father, Anson Poe, is an abusive and evil man who grows marijuana on his property. When visiting his mother and sister, Brendan finds his father has poured scathing hot coffee on his mother and Brendan rushes her to the hospital, taking his sister along also. Brendan works at a bar as a bouncer and is in love with Julie March, a bartender and the owner's daughter.
I don't want to give any spoilers away so that's all I'll say as far as the basic plot. I really enjoyed it but I have to say that with all that was happening in the story I did feel the romance element suffered a bit. Not too much but just not what I expected from Sharon Sala. The story goes back and forth from several people, including the villains. That said, I should add that plot-wise the romance really had to go that way to be more believable. I think that Sharon Sala and Romantic Suspense fans will enjoy it.
A THOUSAND LIES excels in every way possible......From the very first word of Chapter One to the very last word of the Epilogue; you are swept up in the magic of Sharon Sala's story writing. I can't even begin to tell you how you will be caught up in these characters lives. The characterization is spot on; the emotions of each main character laid bare on the pages......so real that you can feel their pain, their love, their frustrations, their hopes for the future. You cheer most of them on; and you despise the character of Anson Poe like you've never despised a story character before!
There's never a dull moment between the pages of this book! You won't want to put it down, and you won't want it to end!
Sharon Sala aka Dinah McCall is one of the most remarkably gifted writers of our time, and she has outdone herself with A THOUSAND LIES!! Bravo!!
I wasn't sure I was enjoying this one at first. To me, it was very different than what I'd come to know and love in a SS book. The romance definitely took a back seat to the main action, which was the Poe Family Drama. But I have to say I was hooked right away and couldn't put the book down. I'm totally a true believer in Sharon Sala's ability to tell an amazing story. I loved it!
Another outstanding read from Sharon Sala. I should stop being surprised at this point. I've read enough of her books to know better by now. This particular book had the dysfunctional family from hell. The father was truly evil as he was certainly a psychopath along with being a narcissistic monster. Belinda ("Linny") the young daughter, who is also a victim of her father's evil, is a small shining star. But, the survivor and hero of the entire book is Brendan. He has a quiet strength and wisdom beyond his years. I defy anyone reading this book not to fall in love with him. I really enjoyed this book!
Be prepared to step into New Orleans and be swept away! This just maybe the best book I have read of Sharon Sala's and I have read them all! If I could give it 10 stars I would! I could feel the emotion on each and every page! Towards the end my heart raced and I wanted it to end so bad but knew that I would miss these characters! This is a must read!
There are more twists and turns in this wonderful book. It had me hooked by page two, and I would rate this as one of the best books that Sharon Sala has written!
There are not enough stars to rate this book. It totally kept me thoroughly engrossed with each and every page I turned. Brendan was a true hero. Julie and Libby were great characters also. Love seeing justice served. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
Oh.... what a boring read. The plot had potential to be great but was written poorly along with several grammatical errors. The dialogue is not how people actually interact with one another and especially since this book was written in today’s era. The reading level of this book was for a middle schooler. There weren’t any twists. The climax of the book was obvious. I didn’t read this feeling like I needed more. However, I did like that this book provided closure. Moderate length chapters.
The author did easily convince me to hate Anson. But that was the only emotion I felt in the book.
I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone. It was very cheesy and a waste of time.
What an awesome book! I have been looking for this book for a long time. And I finally found it on Amazon. I really liked this story of Brenden and Juliette and the rest of the POE family. Belinda was adorable; the rest of the family, not so much (except Brenden). But they all redeemed themselves. Anson Poe was EVIL incarnate and he deserved everything that happened to him. This book really kept the anxiety level up for me! I was on pins and needles for a lot of the book. I read this book in one day. Thank you Sharon Sala.
Wow! This author does an amazing job bringing the story from the pit of evil to the top of the mountain of good! It wasn’t always easy to read, but at the same token at many points you didn’t want to stop. Couldn’t stop. She draws you in and you just can’t let go. Your heart will break by the hate of Anson Poe, but the choice of love and goodness of his son Brendan and others will mend it in the end. The author is so vividly creative. It’s definitely a page turner!
Terrifying to think that a family member could be so evil and cold. This one ranks as one of my favorites of Ms. Sala's. But then, I haven't read one that I don't like. Next is The Warrior. I think this is an older book; not sure, but it really doesn't matter as I'm trying to read everything she has written.
You know the kind of book that ruins you for a few weeks after you read it? The kind that makes you compare every other book, especially those in the same genre? This is that book. The complexity and growth of the characters, the sharp twists and turns of the plot, and the absolute beauty of the ending have ruined me in the best way.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. From the start to the end there are many turns. It has so many elements of life in it, good and evil, voodoo and God, drugs and more. Parts that make you tear up. The ending is not what I thought it would be. For me, it is a good book.
I could not put this book down read it through to the end. There were so many secrets and lies and nerve racking moment and Brendan and Julie love for each other amazing. This is a real nail biter something was always happening . Loved the ending. Look forward to reading more books by Ms Sala.
Anson Poe was evil through and through. I wish stories like this didn't really happen, but unfortunately it tells a tale of a family's nightmare. Great suspense, immense trauma, wonderful courage, and hope in the face of tragedy. With a little bit of Voodoo Magic in New Orleans included! Great book! Sharon Sala is truly a masterful author!
Couldn't put it down. Not a 'who done it'. Great story unfolds as you go. Wonderful characters that will warm your heart and chill your bones equally. You will not easily forget this one. It will stick with you for a long time.
This author is quickly becoming my favorite. Everything witten by her has each surpassed the previous. Am off to look for my next. Thank you for bringing such wonderful work to life!
Anson Poe is an arsehole both cruel and abusive. Why stay? My first by this author and was kept engrossed to see how it all panned out...not a disappointed end ! May check out others written by her.
Above average.....another of Sala's well told tales...
Just a touch of VooDoo.......balanced with believable characters......and a carefully crafted plot. Worth reading just for that.......a typically good example of the genre.
I really loved this book. Anson , had absolutely no conscious. He didn't care about anyone in his family. His son, Brandon, was a good man and a hero. Kathleen Ryan
Loved it. Based in New Orleans. I loved the nuances and descriptions of New Orleans. A wonderful story of family bonding with peril and hate woven in. I loved the different plots and how the author described and developed the characters. Love always wins in the end. Highly recommend.
Sharon Sala is one of my favourite authors and I have just re-read it and it still grips me from the first chapter. Awesome read. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a great story.
Great read with a little of every genre (History, mystery, romance, drama, supernatural, thriller...etc). It's book gumbo! This is the first book that I've read by Sharon Sala. It definitely won't be the last!
This book was ok. Fairly predictable. But what was annoying was the narrator narrating all the emotions. A good writer creates them without having to tell you they've done so.
