USA TODAY bestselling author Allison Leigh introduces readers to a reluctant hero—and the woman who just might heal his wounded heart—in this newest addition to her popular miniseries, Return to the Double C!
Small town deputy Sloan McCray was making amends for his past. They called him a hero but only he had to live with the difficult choices he'd made. And he certainly wasn't prepared to fall in love again, not even with his beautiful—and innocent—new neighbor, whose very presence was a balm to his troubled soul.
There was no doubt in Abby Marcum's mind that Sloan was the guy for her. Though she'd moved to Weaver, Wyoming, to make a better life for her little brother, she saw her future with Sloan. Now she had to convince the man who felt unworthy of love that she and her heart were his for the asking.
A frequent name on bestseller lists, Allison Leigh's highpoint as a writer is hearing from readers that they laughed, cried or lost sleep while reading her books. She’s blessed with an immensely patient family who doesn’t mind (much) her time spent at her computer and who gives her the kind of love she wants her readers to share in every page. Good book. Abby has come to Weaver to be the new school nurse. It also gives her a chance to make a better life for herself and her seven year old brother. As she is moving in to her new house she meets next door neighbor Sloan who comes over to shovel her driveway. She's wary of him at first but also very attracted to him. Sloan is drawn to her also, but tries to resist.
I really liked Abby. She hasn't had things easy in her life. She was raised by her grandparents when her mom dumped her with them and split. A few years ago mom showed up again and dumped Abby's half brother Dillon with them. Her grandfather passed away two years ago and her grandmother has Alzheimer's and had to be put in a care facility. Now she is sole caretaker of her little brother and worries that she's not up to the job. She has taken the school nurse job in Weaver so that she is on the same schedule he is. When she meets Sloan she is nervous at first until she finds out who he is. Then she relaxes as she considers him to be a hero. She also notices an intense attraction to him. Even though his kisses are fantastic, he tells her that he's no good for her and can't make any promises. She sees how good he is with Dillon and how much he loves his sister and knows that there is more good in him than he thinks there is. I really loved the way that Abby knows that Sloan is the man for her and is willing to be patient. There is one scene where she is the one providing comfort to him that shows just how much she cares. Her patience is tested at one point as he fights the demons of his past and she doesn't know if she'll ever see him again.
Sloan spent years deep undercover with a gang when he was with the ATF. During that time he did things and saw things that haunt him, including losing someone he cared about. When he left the ATF he moved to Weaver to be near his sister, but didn't know if he could handle staying in one place. He's working as a deputy sheriff and enjoying the work but still dealing with his memories. When he met Abby her sweetness calmed some of the misery he felt, but his attraction to her worried him. Because of his past he feels that he's not worthy of anyone's love, much less someone like her. He had a bad habit of giving in to his growing feelings and then pulling back, but it was getting harder for him to do so. I also loved how good he was with Dillon. Some of the things he did showed how great he would be as a father if he would just let himself care. His hero status only went up with Abby and Dillon when he rescued them from an angry parent. When his past calls him away from Weaver he realizes he has some choices to make.
I also loved some of the secondary characters. Abby's brother Dillon was well done ax a seven year old. He acted very much in character for his age. I loved the way he would say some things that were true but inappropriate at the time. I also loved seeing characters from other books and the impact they have, especially on Sloan.
I love this series. Each book is a stand alone. This book has been on my wish list for what seems like forever. I'm glad I finally took the time to read it. It was a really sweet romance.
Abby, and her little brother Dillon just moved from Branden to Weaver. They didn't have good parents, and was raised by their grandparents. Their grandfather passed away, and Their grandmother had Alzheimer. Abby took care of her for awhile, but it just got too hard trying to raise her kid brother, finish college and take care of her grandmother. When Abby finished her nursing degree, she placed her grandmother in a nursing home, and moved to Weaver.
She met Sloan shortly after moving into her new home. He was her neighbor. Sloan was a very hot deputy. He really took to Dillon, and Dillon looked up to him. The relationship between Sloan, and Abby grew over time, and was just a pleasure to see develop within the pages of the book. I normally like books with more action, or drama. With Sloan being a deputy, I kept waiting for something big to happen. With very little action, or drama I still really enjoyed this story.
4 stars. Sloan and Abby's story. Although technically not a Clay Sloan is the the twin brother of Tara, Axel Clay's wife and the catalyst for their story. Sloan is now working as a Deputy in the town of Weaver having being dismissed from the ATF over his actions to protect his sister while working undercover to bring down a motorcycle gang. His new neighbour Abby has moved to Weaver as the new school nurse with her young brother Dillon who she is now sole guardian for. This was a story of a young woman who knows where she's at and faces life with a smile, a man who is hailed a hero but feels anything but and a young boy who sees the real hero in the man for just being himself. There are some really heartfelt moments in this book and the interaction between the characters is sweet. Good recommended read
For the past six months, Sloan McCray has studied the street he lives on. "It was his first winter in Weaver - the first snow had fallen in October and hadn't stopped since." Sloan is a deputy sheriff in town. His sister married into a large and predominant family in Weaver. She convinced him to move there and see if it was somewhere he could settle. Sloan grew up in a family that moved around a bit too much. He doesn't stay in place for long periods and isn't sure if he will stay in Weaver or move on to somewhere else.
Then, Sloan gets a new neighbor. Abby Marcum bought the house across the street from Sloan. She is the new nurse at the elementary school. She has moved from the town over and is trying to set up a family with her new home and brother. Abby is raising her younger brother, Dillon, who is 8. Abby is about 23.
New Year's is upon the town and Abby moves in. Sloan and Dillon strike up a friendship and from that, Abby begins to be attracted to Sloan. She tries to be polite and stay away but he keeps coming around.
The story takes place in Wyoming. Sloan has some secrets and issues that he hasn't dealt with. He has been floating around and only settled in Weaver to be near his sister. Abby helps Sloan find what he really desires but is she enough to keep him grounded?
The book really takes its time in setting up a relationship between the two characters. Their first attraction, asking each other out, then their dates, getting to know one another and their first kiss. The author did a good job with slowing down the relationship between the two characters.
I liked this story. It isn't a Christmas story. It is a winter tale. Sloan is flawed because of his past and Abby is having to deal with a lot at a young age. There are several supporting characters that help lightening up the book.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were interesting. The conflict was plausible, if not a bit obvious. There are many references to sex and this is not a clean romance novel.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

MY THOUGHTS ON THE BOOK: A Weaver Beginning was an extremely charming easy to read romance. I adored the characters, the town, the Weavers themselves. Being from a small town the plot of small town life was familiar and comfortable. The hero of the story, Sloan McCray was a little larger than life and struggling with what he plans to do next. His twin sister wants him to stay in Weaver. This law man is dealing with a lot of issues about his memories, his past, and his guilt. Abby Marcum has just moved too Weaver with her young brother on New Years eve. Her heat is not working, there is a ton of snow in her driveway, and she and her brother are trying unpack the car and settle in. Twenty-three year old Abby is going to be the new school nurse. Dillon, her seven year old half brother is being raised by his sister. He is shy and afraid when he meets new people. The three begin a relationship that made me smile. It was a sweet read and I completed the book in a day.

Again, if Goodreads allowed this, I would probably give this one a 3.5. I enjoyed it. A very easy read, little angst and a satisfying resolution.
This novel felt very real for the most part (we'll get to the part where it's not quite below). Abby, the heroine, is in her early 20's, a school nurse who has relocated to a new town and job with her younger half-brother, Dillon. Her earlier life is revealed in carefully woven bits throughout the story and it makes your heart both hurt and sing. She is brave young woman, who has not let sadness and loss break her down. I love her spirit and her refusal to bow to fate that has dealt her many slings and arrows. I also adore her relationship with her brother to whom she is both sister and 'mother'. I really liked her refusal to let Sloan's issues crush her. It hurts but she moves on as best she can.
The male protagonist, Sloan, is a sexy small-town sheriff's deputy who is a former ATF agent who left that agency under less than stellar circumstances. He is by turns swoony and confusing. He rivals Edward Cullen for whiplash inducing changes of mind, which was one of my biggest problems with him. His issues didn't always hit the right note for me. I did adore his relationship with Dillon and his family.
The heat between these two was both believable and intense. It built in a realistic way. No insta-love, just a growing awareness of heavy attraction of the best kind.
There were minor plot inconsistencies and some bumpy editing, but nothing egregious.
The biggest problem I had with the book was the pacing and the lack of real dramatic tension. Sloan's behavior and his 'obstacle' to having a relationship that was more than physical just didn't resonate for me. For that reason, the conflict never rose to a level that it helped push the story forward.
All in all it was a fun read and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to read something kind of hot with very little conflict.
Thank you to Harlequin and Netgalley for a chance to read the ARC.
I’m pretty certain this is the first Allison Leigh book I’ve read, although you shouldn’t take me up on my word here. There are probably dozens of stories I’ve read and I can’t tell you what their title/author’s name is even with a gun to my head.
Ms. Leigh’s writing is lovely. It’s light, and flowing, and has a way to word out feelings in a very real way.
I really liked Abby. She’s young, inexperienced in more ways than one and is very sweet. She’s independent and while very “green” in some aspects of life she definitely knows what she wants and needs and how to get it. She’s not a pushover and having her particular familial past – she’s also insanely mature.
Now Sloan on the other hand (her neighbor, btw) is tough, broody, rather annoying (to be quite honest) and somewhat damaged by his previous assignment in active duty. Although in my opinion his “damage” wasn’t as profound as he made it to be in his head.
I enjoyed the gradual development of their romance and how in spite of him trying to hold back and not make their relationship emotional, knowing he’s going to leave, he didn’t ignore the fact that it did. I loved how Abby pushed him and wasn’t intimidated by his supposed tough-guy attitude. And I absolutely LOVED how Sloan was with Dillon.
I felt like the story didn’t have that unique something that makes it memorable. I’m pretty sure that in a few weeks I won’t even remember the characters’ names. This was a Hallmark story through and through.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for the feel-good story, no out-of-the-blue surprises and HEA.
NetGalley were kind enough to include this title in their newsletter, and I thank them, as well as Harlequin for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A Weaver Beginning was a charming romance. I liked the characters, the town, the Weaver family. The plot was small town life. It did have two love scenes that I skipped over.
Sloan McCray has spent the year in Weaver and is not sure what he plans to do next. His twin wants him to stay in Weaver. He does not see himself as a hero. As a hard time dealing with his memories and guilt.
Abby Marcum has just moved too Weaver with her young brother on New Years eve. The house she bought heat is not working. Their is lots of snow in driveway as she tries to unpack her car. She is 23 and the new school nurse who will start in a few days.
Dillon is her 7 year old half brother that she has raised for the past two years. He is cute but really shy. He is afraid when he sees the stranger with snow shovel coming over from next door.
Sloan helps her carry stuff inn and when he realizes that the house is cold and that she plans to heat with fireplace till after the holidays. He brings her wood starts the fire, shovels the driveway for her before he tells her who he is. A sheriff deputy who was in the news for getting biker gang busted up working undercover deep undercover.
Dillon takes to his neighbor when he finds out he has a badge and gun.
I smiled a lot reading this story. Dillon is cute and can really say the wrong thing at the wrong time as all kids tend to do sometimes.
I was given this ebook to read and asked to give honest review of it when done by Netgalley and Harlequin. publication: September 17th 2013 by Harlequin Special Edition 224 pages ISBN 0373657706
I really enjoyed reading this sweet love story. It’s a refreshing break from all the angst ridden books I’ve been reading lately. I got into this one right away and it kept my attention until I finished it. It flowed nicely and is well written. I noticed only a few minor editing issues, nothing to take away from the story.
Abby is a strong young woman with a lot of responsibility on her shoulders. She handles it well and knows what she wants. I liked the fact that no matter how much she loved and wanted Sloan she never acted desperate or begged. That’s not to say she didn’t hurt at times, but Abby had enough self-respect to accept the things that happen. Abby does have some self-doubt when it comes to her little brother, in that she worries that she is doing the right things for him.
Sloan is a man with a past and issues with that past. He has to come to terms with some of the things that happened over the last few years. Sloan wanted and loved Abby, even if he wouldn’t admit that love to himself. He would be tender and caring to Abby and then push her away, just as it was starting to get annoying the story moved forward. I’m not sure I liked the way he dealt with his past, it came across a bit selfish, but it felt important to the story. Like it was the only way he knew how or could deal with it.
Overall I loved Abby and really liked Sloan. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good love story with a strong heroine.

Sloan McCray is on temporary assignment as a deputy sheriff in Weaver, and has a year lease on a house. He is trying to decide the direction he wants to take in his life. He has a dark past which he has a hard time moving past. Sloan looks out his window on New Year’s Eve and notices someone is moving in next door. They have been bringing box after box into the house and didn’t bother to shovel. Something draws him outside to help his new neighbors. Abby sold her grandfather’s house and took what she cherished and could fit into her car and she and her brother Dillon moved to Weaver. Abby has taken a job as a school nurse so she can have the same hours as her brother. She may be years younger than Sloan but her ever present smile and care for her brother warm Sloan’s heart.
Sloan is the classic tortured by his past character. He has a lot of good in his heart that she showed the ones he cared about, but he was too hard on himself to give himself credit. I enjoyed his soft side and his care for Dillon. Abby is a delightful strong character. She could be so bitter about her childhood, but she finds the positive and makes sure Dillon has happy memories too. This book warmed my heart. This is a book that is deep in a series. While it read fine as a standalone there were times when Sloan was with his extended family that I felt I was missing something. The ending was sort of rushed for me, and I would have liked to have had more plot dealing with how Sloan came to terms with his past.
A great read in front of the fire during a winter’s storm. I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley for my honest review.
Abby just moved into town with her younger half brother next door to the hott sheriff. At first she couldn't place the guy and remember he's the undercover agent who cracked a big gang case. She can't help but fall for him but he clearly stated that and she and her younger brother need stability. Sloan is debating whether or not to stay as the sheriff and will be leaving soon, he can't stay and doesnt want be with a women for fear history will repeat itself. Abby was not something he expected to come into his life and no matter how he feels I can't help but want her but he's not what she needs.
Short, Sweet holiday romance. I loved it, I wanted to make sure I read this in time of the holidays. Hey since I can't have my holidays romance, the closet I'll get are these books. I'll take it were I can get it. :-) Oh come on I know I'm not the only one. Back to the book, I loved that there was two point of views, helped me connected to the characters more when I got to see what was on their mind. I loved how caring Abby was, she didn't have to take in her half brother but its clear she loves him and do everything she can to make sure he's taken care of. I loved the little romance brewing between Abby and Sloan. I loved how sweet and fun this book was.
This book is charming and an easy to read romance that perfect for the holidays. I recommend you lovely readers to check out this book. 4 of 5 stars.
The story take place where Abby relocated to Weaver with her young brother, met Sloan who is her immediate neighbour. She sold her grandfather’s house and move to a new environment to start over. She have also taken a new job as a school nurse that provide working hours the same as her brother’s school hour. Her dedication towards her brother warm Sloan’s heart. Sloan, on the other hand, is a nomad. He never stayed in a place for too long. He is the small town sheriff-deputy who left the ATF agency under a circumstance. He stay in the town for his twin sister who have been pestering him to put down root. He never intends to fall in love with Abby but the attraction between them very intense. He never think himself to be worthy to others and it takes Abby to showed him otherwise.
This story warmed my heart and is a charming romance. I likes the characters very much especially Dillon, Abby’s young brother who tends to say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Overall, it is a sweet read for me
Then, A Weaver Beginning by Allison Leigh. This was yet another in my streak of Harlequin requests, and I'm sad to report that it is completely forgettable. I had to go back and read the synopsis to have any idea what it was about. It wasn't terrible- I'd probably have remembered that- but the love story was too quick to be believable and the internal conflict was weak. Sloan McCray has moved back home to recover from his past life as an undercover agent. The town believes he is a hero while he feels otherwise. Abby Marcum is his very young, completely innocent in every way, new neighbor. She's 23 and has custody of her 6 year old half-brother. They are completely different in every way and yet fall in love almost instantly. While I do believe in love at first sight, I also think it needs to be backed up with SOMETHING else. None of the aspects of this book- the romance, the main characters, the external conflict, or the internal conflict- packed much of a punch.
This is an installment in the Return To The Double C series, and though it stands alone, I think I was at a disadvantage not having read the previous books. it wasn't anything neglected or missing, I just didn't have the connection to the series mentioned by other reviewers, and I felt a little like I was late to a movie. The story was good, the characters well drawn, and the setting strong. The lead couple was likeable and their gradual journey to love and happily ever after was satisfying. The secondary characters are strong, and includes a really well written (not precocious) child that readers will find easy to connect to emotionally. A Weaver Beginning was a light, gentle, satisfying romance. *I received my copy from NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoy a good romance, and Allison Leigh's A Weaver Beginning did not disappoint! She weaves a beautiful story of every day happenings and brings joy to the reader. How many grandparents, siblings, and others are raising children not their own. Yet, in the midst of all the decisions and living, love can be found. The question to ask is, "Can it be won?" We all make decisions in our lives that we wish we could change. But, it is those decisions that make us the people we are today. A Weaver Beginning embraces the characters' past and looks forward to a bright future, if only the choice is made....
My rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Finally we get to read about Sloan which we first meet in "A Weaver Wedding".. and it doesn't disappoint!!
"Small town deputy Sloan McCray was making amends for his past. They called him a hero but only he had to live with the difficult choices he'd made. And he certainly wasn't prepared to fall in love again, not even with his beautiful—and innocent—new neighbor, whose very presence was a balm to his troubled soul.

A Weaver Beginning was a nice, sweet story. The characters were okay. Abby had a lot of responsibility for a woman of about 23, but she handled everything that happened to her and her brother very well. Sloan had to deal with things that happened in his past but was really good with Abby's brother, Dillon; and, he was an overall good guy. He just needed to deal with the demons of his past. I wanted to love these characters, but I just didn't really find myself caring much about what happened to them. The story just didn't pull me in like I thought it would.

"3.5 out of 5 stars, this is a sweet, fun, and charming novel! It's about a young woman protecting her little brother while trying to raise him right, falling for her "dangerous," handsome, and protective neighbor with hopes of a great future for them all."
I wont go in to the details of the story as I cant do that justice. I really liked the entire thing.
A sweet story of love and helping out each other. I sat a read it cover to cover in one sitting. It was wonderfully written and the caracters seemed to flow in just the right way for me. I liked the way Sloan fights getting close to Abby.
Its a story that I would sit and read again if I have time.
Abby was one of those characters who just stick out in my mind. She had a hard life and now she is raising her half brother and starting a new job as the school nurse. Then she meets Sloan her new neighbor and boy did the sparks fly between them. For a while they tried to fight the connection but eventually Sloan wore Abby down with being there for her and Dillon. But he has some pretty dark issues to overcome himself ....
I liked this: the characters, the setting and the story are all compelling. The strange thing about this series is that, even though I have read several, I don't remember much about them. In this book, some of the characters from past books are in it and I don't remember anything about the books they were in.
"TOP PICK! The small town is the ideal backdrop, the little boy is charmingly impudent, the supporting characters are faultless and the blow-your-mind lovemaking is the icing on the cake." RT Book Reviews, rated 4 1/2 stars
A Weaver beginning was a very good book. Sloan was a hero but he didn't think he was, because of what happened in his past. Abby moves next door with her 12 year old brother. They make him care again.
