Dylan Kane #2

Containment Failure

Rate this book
THE BLACK DEATH KILLED ALMOST HALF OF EUROPE'S POPULATION. THIS TIME IT WILL BE BILLIONS. New Orleans has been quarantined, an unknown virus sweeping the city, killing one hundred percent of those infected. The Centers for Disease Control, desperate to find a cure, is approached by BioDyne Pharma who reveal a former employee has turned a cutting edge medical treatment capable of targeting specific genetic sequences into a weapon, and released it. CIA Special Agent Dylan Kane has been given one guideline from his boss: consider yourself unleashed, leaving Kane and New Orleans Police Detective Isabelle Laprise battling to stay alive as an insidious disease and terrified mobs spread through the city while they desperately seek those behind the greatest crime ever perpetrated. The stakes have never been higher as Kane battles to save not only his friends and the country he loves, but all of mankind. In Containment Failure, eleven times internationally bestselling author J. Robert Kennedy delivers a terrifying tale of what could happen when science goes mad, with enough sorrow, heartbreak, laughs and passion to keep readers on the edge of their seats until the chilling conclusion.

This was not what I expected. It had a lot more romance and a lot less apocalypse than I thought. But actually that's not a bad thing - it's just that Kennedy tends to go slightly lighter on character development. Although this is the Dylan Kane series, he doesn't really play a major role. That said, I really liked the side characters. I feel like I'm looking at abstract art; while all the elements seem wrong, they come together as a complete picture that turns out looking right. Go figure.

The narration by Adam Barr was very good.

Companies are always pushing the boundaries in a strive to increase profits and make themselves invaluable to us, especially for health and one company has achieved the ultimate process of creating an antiviral that can be designed to target a specific sequence to cure anything from the common flu to cancer to HIV, and the future of surviving previously incurabe diseases has just got brighter...

But, the inventor of this scientific genius has disappeared and has been giving examples of how a specific gene type could be targetted, holding the company to ransom with very small and quiet demonstrations, that is at least until now.

Something is released at the SuperDome in New Orleans, with many experiencing what seems like flu like symptoms but with one major difference... They're all only women.
As the patients roll in, and things go from bad to worse, the CDC is called but they've no idea how to deal with a contagion that only affects a specific group of people or why.

The story stabs to the heart of greed, power and ultimate control and demonstrates just how quickly the walls of humanity will crumble when the fragile balance is upset.

Another great thriller from this author who has touched on our fears as well as our hopes

Some crazy people. Releasing virus after virus, going after specific targets. During one experiment, red headed women only. Then this one set off in New Orleans. Starts out as a virus that is at first believed to be the flu. Only to find out it's one of those viruses from a certain pharmaceutical company. This one is targeted towards women with a history of breast cancer in their family. Only to find out there is a second more dangerous virus right along with it. Targeted at men. So all of New Orleans is on lockdown, while 1) Dr's try to figure out how to stop it and come up with a cure. 2) Others race to find those responsible and put a stop to them before they cause anymore damage.

The main purpose of a fiction book is to entertain. In that respect the book filled its role. I enjoyed reading it. It is fast with lots of twists. This is my 1st book from J. Robert Kennedy and its main Hero “Dylan Kane”. I was surprised to learn that throughout the book he (the main hero) doesn’t do much. He is mainly following others.

Scary in real life as well.

I have been reading this novel in May 2020 whilst the world is battling Covid-19. If only a cure for this virus could be found as quickly as in this story.
Dylan along with Delta Force are fighting to save America and the world from a gene specific virus released by a certain person who wants to become very very rich. This is another excellently researched thriller with humour, love and realistic undertones in today's world.

This was kind of hard to read in the current climate, nothing like reading about a global pandemic in the middle of one, if only we had a Dylan Kane.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances of my reading it, I really enjoyed this book. Like most Robert Kennedy books it is fast paced, jumping around the world and through the eyes of several characters. Kane's whole 'Casanova' persona can get old a little quickly, but it ties into the international man of danger trope.

A scientist turns a gene therapy used to target and treat disease into a weapon. Trying it out on a small target group first then expanding to issues affected greater numbers of the population. All those who become infected die. Dylan kane is in a race against time to find and stop the use. Well paced, good action and right level of scientific explanation. Total escapism while asking, what is stopping this from happening? Looking forward to no.3.

I have really enjoyed all the books I have read so far by this author but I particularly enjoyed this one. I think the reality of the quarantine really hits home and makes this storyline believable in this day and age. I would thoroughly recommend this book (although you should read book one first even though you each book can be read as a standalone) for an action paced thriller.

Book 2

Book 2 was a fun read and had a few errors throughout. The plot and characters are well thought out. The plot is interesting and has a few twists. Some of the information did not flow or fit in places, but was okay enough. The characters are developed well and I still enjoy reading about them. I look forward to the next book.

Book #1 was the best so far; #2 was very good also.......there were some boring parts, the back and forths. I like sex as much as the next guy but get tired of reading about encounters. Will pass on Kane stories for a while and will take a look at other Kennedy works.

The book was okay. Nothing more, nothing less. The story kept bouncing back and forth between characters and the list of said characters was too long. I found the end arrived abruptly and very summarily. I have read numerous Kennedy books and this one left me unimpressed.

There were a few moments in this that honestly had me on the edge of my seat, reacting like it was real life and I honestly believe that’s because of Covid.

There were a few too many characters, like the first book, which makes it difficult to connect to any of them.

Not bad, fast paced. Considering it was written before Covid, it was prophetic. The main theme of rich people going rogue and selfishly putting millions in danger is also prophetic - exaclty what nazi Musk and the orange felon are doing now.

Containment Failure was exciting and well written but seemed to lack the Robert Ludlum Covert-One dramatics. I enjoyed it and will be continuing on to the #3 Dylan Kane book so it can't be all that bad lol. Looking forward to taking the time to listen to "Cold Warriors".

Containment Failure is another fantastic thriller from J. Robert Kennedy! It is a novel about a pandemic written long before COVID 19 struck the world. In this novel Dylan Kane returns for a second action-packed race against time to catch the villains and save the world. It’s a page turner!

It Can't Be Stopped --- But They Must

A terrible death spreads faster and more rapidly than any seen before .It consumes the frenzied population of New Orleans. All usual legal process is discarded; citizens are shot with scant mercy for breaking Presidentially-imposed isolation; :international travel is denied: a frightened world in panic.
This thriller unfolds at warp speed, and never throttles back. I will surely hunt hungrily for this author's writings in my future forays into the world of action fiction.

Reading this with the start of a new major virus hitting our world gave me flashes of what might happen. This book could be considered prophetic, and yet it as a book is playing out our deepest held conspiracy theories about what potential can exist in the world with the technology that already exists in this world. An amazing job with this book!I
