NOW AN INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER! An explosive new spin-off series set in the smash hit James Acton Thrillers world, from internationally bestselling author J. Robert Kennedy.
TO SAVE THE COUNTRY HE LOVES, SPECIAL AGENT DYLAN KANE MIGHT HAVE TO BETRAY IT
Three top secret research scientists are presumed dead in a boating accident, but the kidnapping of their families the same day raises questions the FBI and local police can't answer, leaving them waiting for a ransom demand that will never come.
Central Intelligence Agency Analyst Chris Leroux stumbles upon the story, and finds a phone conversation that was never supposed to happen. When he reports it to his boss, the National Clandestine Services Chief, he is uncharacteristically reprimanded for conducting an unauthorized investigation and told to leave it to the FBI.
But he can't let it go.
For he knows something the FBI doesn't.
One of the scientists is alive.
Chris makes a call to his childhood friend, CIA Special Agent Dylan Kane, leading to a race across the globe to stop a conspiracy reaching the highest levels of political and corporate America, that if not stopped, could lead to war with an enemy armed with a weapon far worse than anything in the American arsenal, with the potential to not only destroy the world, but consume it.

An intelligent, fast paced throughout, clever, gripping, tense, highly recommended thriller.
IN ORDER TO SAVE THE COUNTRY HE LOVES, DYLAN KANE MUST FIRST BETRAY IT.
Three top secret research scientists are presumed dead in a boating accident, but the kidnapping of their families the same day raises questions the FBI and local police can’t answer, leaving them waiting for a ransom demand that will never come.
But he can’t let it go.

Really an outline of the series is all I can give, but to you the reader all I can say is read this book you will not be disappointed. I love action thrillers and this book is so well paced with every chapter full of action.
When I say "I'm Finished", I mean I can't stand another page. This book seemed to be written by a horney 12 year old. Total garbage or at least the first 30% or so was..that was all I could stand. I see the J. Robert Kennedy writes quite a bit...I hope his other efforts are better than this.
I tried, but couldn't finish this claptrap. A bunch of people I don't know or care about do a bunch of things that make no sense, and Kane is always there to save the day no matter how dire the situation is alleged to be. There is zero character development, and way too many characters. The timeline is screwy, jumping forward and backward randomly, making it hard to follow. I suspected early on this was a crap book when three men are out fishing in a small boat on a lake. One is leaning overboard to net floating fish he had killed with some kind of underwater bomb delivered by drone (say what?!), when a second guy rocks the boat and they all fall in. Somehow -- and I had to read this three times because it made no sense -- they go in so deep one man has to hold his breath and swim as hard as he can up toward the surface, but he can't make it because his buddy is below him holding on to his ankle and just before his lungs burst a scuba diver (huh? Where did HE come from?!) shoves a regulator into his mouth so he can breathe, then he is able to do the same for his buddy, then someone grabs his wrist and pulls him up and out, onto a larger boat, where someone else points a gun at his chest and shoots him with a tranquilizer dart. Yeah, right. TOTALLY believable. Not. Skip this tripe. Not worth the time it took to write this review.
This is another new author for me. I’ve seen his stuff being advertising and when I found this series at my local library in audio, I decided it was time to give it a try. Very pleased that I did.
When three scientists and their families are abducted, Dillan Kane, as CIA operative suspects a foreign government is involved, but as he investigates, he finds that American resources have been used which muddies the waters. All he knows is that he must rescue the hostages or kill them. It’s too dangerous to leave them alive.
Incredibly fast-paced with intriguing characters. This is a smart spy thriller with just the right amount of tension sprinkled with humor to keep you turning the pages. Kennedy has an impressive backlist which I will be exploring.
Fast moving and entertaining, exactly what I am looking for in a thriller. First of a series featuring Dylan Kane as an operator.
Kennedy shows his imagination when describing the 'secret weapon' under development and the crux of the story and the reason the scientists are kidnapped. Reminds me of Stephen King's The Langoliers.
For those who like action thrillers with a touch of science fiction and political intrigue, take a look at this one.
I mean, should've known that an author who publishes 5-7 books per year (!!!!!!) for 9 (!!!!!!) different series, couldn't be good. Like, at all. 84 books (!!!!!!) in 14 years. Yeah... Something stinks. Even more so when you realize that the despite a somewhat interesting premise (that' sbeing butchered from the get go), the writing is abysmal as it gets, amateurish and stupid. Jumping backwards and forwards in time every chapter to the point of making the reader disoriented, characters that do things that make zero sense, things happen that make zero sense and are so unrealistic, descriptions that describe nothing, characters that come and go without any impact... And a main character who barely makes an appearance. It's the Dylan Kane show... Without Dylan. I mean, seriously...
I've noticed in the past few years that there's a rise in the numbers of "authors" who publish a shitload of books per year and have a shitload of series, all have a dreadful writing and awful written characters. Which raises two questions: 1. Are these really written by one author (which I highly doubt) or a team of writers under the same name out to make a quick back (see James Patterson, for example)? 2. Why hire writers who simply can't fucking write to save their lives? at least hire people who have some talent and skills, not fucktards who write as if they're a horny 12 year old who thinks he's so sophisticated but he's actually cringe as fuck.
No wonder the publishing world is in trouble with shit like this.
Just do yourselves a favor and avoid this crapfest as if it was the plague itself- unless you love having your intelligence being insulted and your time wasted.
Rogue Operator is an edge-of-your seat spot thriller. 3 men, scientists and friends, are working on a top secret project that goes terribly wrong. Months later, they and their families are kidnapped. Local police are unable to crack the case, which is now in the hands of the CIA and special ops agent Dylan Kane. Dylan's friend CIA analyst Chris Leroux feeds him information as he digs into the case, looking for the bigger picture. What he finds is terrifying, not for the sake of his own life, which is always in danger, but for the sake of the world. Headed towards WWIII, only Kane can stop what's been set in motion and give the scientists and their families a fighting chance.
Nail biting investigative work is followed by adrenaline fueled action scenes. Kane and his fellow agents are more than capable, but the enemy is formidable. The entire story is that much more... exciting? Scary? Definitely horrific. Because with the methods and politics explained by the author within the narrative of the story, it's soon obvious just how based on reality this is. This is more science than fiction, more reality than fantasy - this is not at all far fetched. The message that comes across is forget politics, let's talk about survival. Survival of the U.S., or at least survival of mankind. In my opinion, the author's bias towards changes we need to see (and soon) that comes across midway through is spot on. Rogue Operator is a thriller, and Dylan Kane is a super agent, but the threat is all too real.
This book has been an exciting read; all characters were supered from bad guys to good guys. The chase and adventures the author let his readers see following Kane on his heroic mission was superb. Then there is Chris, a simple tech guy who stumbled on something that earned him a target on his back but somehow thanks to a close friend and a certain love interest he manages to pull through in completing his search.
Loved the plot of how political leaders would sell out their own citizens for either money or a chance to start a war. I was able to see this with one od the doctors and the Secretary of Defence.
Cops being killed and no one doimg anything about it, I'm glad that there was vengeance in the end, shame couldn't see Percy's reaction to the good news but still justice pulled through.
I wish I read this sooner, glad i did so now though and most definitely recommend it to late readers like moi that know they want or wish to enjoy an exciting action book filled with guns, explosives, chopper chase and car chase.. then this is your book.
A fast paced action story for a modern world that keeps you turning the pages.
Three scientists finally complete a project that has consumed them for many years, a scientific breakthrough that could bring humanity one step closer to everything from cures to illness and extending life to constructing almost anything anywhere and improving the lives of people. But, a simple error also demonstrates how this new technology could also be used as the ultimate weapon.
One analyst stumbles across the events as they unfold and takes it to his superior but is told to drop it. Not understanding why and seeing a stranger picture, he reaches out to an old friend, someone in the business to seek out the truth. No sooner does he arrive than he is being tailed and the web of conspiracy expands dramatically.
Friendships will be tested in this taught thriller, can the person you're working be trusted or are they part of the conspiracy?
First time reading this author - the overall premise was interesting at first, but honestly I kept wondering what horny 12-year old wrote this! Dylan Kane was almost a minor character, with zero character development. LeRoux had the maturity of a middle schooler and the whole Sheri thing was cringe from start to finish. The character I most liked was Jason, and being one of the scientists who gets kidnapped, it's doubtful he'll appear in another book. I have no real interest in continuing the series as I really don't care what happens to Kane or his buddy LeRoux. There are so many better and more exciting espionage/special operations books out there (e.g. Gray Man, Orphan X, Jack Ryan, John Dempsey), with far more appealing characters, to waste my time on this series.
The book is starting fine, but once our super hero “Dylan Kane” gets into the picture it all start going downhill. The main figure is a two dimensional type. Maybe a one dimension. He can get himself out of any unimaginable situation. That is a science fiction type of book, only without space craft or little grin creatures. Just on super human one. The rescue story is so unbearable that it is embracing. Anyway if you are on the beach or on a flight and have nothing to read, you may still enjoy this one. Do not look for any intellectual reading. Just something to pass the time. 1st 100 where 4.5 stars. But later on many parts were only 2 stars. So the average became 3.
Having had brief run ins with Kane whilst reading the James Acton novels, it was good to read this first of this series. Gives the background to his job within the CIA. Scientists are supposedly killed, their families disappear but Chris Leroux comes across a phone call through his job as an analyst with the CIA. Kane becomes involved and through bad luck kills other agents and is then declared rogue. Other factors closer to home and in N Korea come into play which have to be worked through. This is to clear his name and prevent war. A great introduction with plenty of action as is expected . 😊
The biggest thing I have against this book is the time line as it jumps between the different characters around a kidnapping event. It gets unnecessarily confusing. Books are about enjoyment, not trying to constantly work out the relationship between the chapter you're reading the previous one.
A group of scientists are kidnapped, along with their families. CIA agent Dylan Kane is asked by a CIA analyst friend to look into it. The reasoning behind this is just not realistic enough for me. There is some good action but the book is a bit disjointed for me and feels structurally unsound.
It's a good effort but this book needs more editing.
It was interesting read at the time of publication for sure thought some of ideas felt stagnated from obvious uses now that I got a round to rereading this novel. This has lead me to also better see the chacther growth Dylan will go threw in later novels better from reading a perfectly defined MC of this series. That is why for my finale words I’ll say this read kindle not paper back(if your a true spy fan you’ll figure out the true sentence quickly).
For 2/3 of this book, I was really liking it. Then they decide to humiliate good guy and analyst Leroux with the girl and the four operatives. Then the boss says sorry we had to put you through that??!
Well, I would've told that boss to shove it and that I want to transfer. I never wanna work with him again. I also would've went off on the girl for leading me on. This is where I stopped reading. I'm deciding whether to finish the book or not. Will Leroux ‘forgive’ them. I sure as hell hope not. That’s the ONLY suspense left now.

This was not as good as The Protocol. Meaning not as in depth, or an alphabet circus. I believe he did a good job setting the scenes for the next book that will the even more characters in. I enjoyed reading the book, it is still an action adventure with lots of sniper fire, and no gory details to get stuck on. Maybe it is too clean with school and concert shootings, but more in the style of the westerns we all grew up on with no scalpings.
A thorough line-edit would have made this easier to read. Other than the two protagonists, most of the characters felt like props rather than people. The story was what you'd expect from this type of thriller, which is probably what I liked best about the book. The motivation for the inciting event, however, was not at all believable.
A shocker. I’m like Steve an earlier reviewer. I tried to continue but I could not read one more page. It had no redeeming features of plot, pace, vocabulary, style or characters. It had the qualities of a book written by someone of limited literacy and writing ability. A disappointing waste of time. On reflection 2 stars is 2 too many.
Excellent Story! Took a bit of time to get really started! Had an awful lot of scenario and character development to do. He But then the story takes off. Great job and even better it is a series. Very good read. Santa Mike
I am glad i finally found a book with men as the hero.
I love a good action adventure. This book sure fit that. Dylan Kane is a CIA operative in a mission. Of course, it is to save the world. He does it in awesome fashion. WOW
I like to scan a story the first time through. Then, armed with an explanation of who is related to whom, I can go back and re-read (or have it read to me) at a leisurely pace. Brian provides a good narrative voice (Text to Speech).
Not only was Phil a traitor to his country, but he was actually stupid enough to believe that North Korea of all places would release them. Wait a CIA spy will be there to save everyone, all by himself. Try for a little more believability.
First, thank you Amazon for the free book. I didn't expect much because free usually doesn't equate to much but this book was EXCELLENT! I am a romance novel junkie but JRob is now in my collection - looking forward to more.
The author draws the reader in to the book from the beginning to the end! The story has a number twists and turns that the author uses to keep you interested!
This was kind of fun - a little light on the character development of Dylan Kane, but there will be plenty of books for that as the series continues. The romance was sweet. The plot was ok; it also seemed a little light on suspense and intrigue. The narration by Adam Barr was great.
I'm not sure this was the best novel, but it was a good start to a series that promises to offer new world spy action. Enjoyed it and is simple but good read.
Plenty of action and an unusual twist in having whole families in the midst of the action. It's always interesting to see behind the scenes nefarious activities of powerful people that we know must exist.
rage quit after he killed off the only useful woman. it'd been irritating me plenty before then but that was the breaking point. hard to believe this was written this century. so dated and poorly written. clichéd rubbish.
