One sexy espionage agent on a mission. One smoking hot P.I. searching for a missing person. One combustible encounter.
For the first time in print, the stunningly sensual first encounter of Jamie Hunt and Lucas Goodman from the novel Blowback.
This short story is not suitable for readers under the age of 18.
This short story is the prequel to Blowback and Betrayals, The Black Cipher Files Romantic Suspense series....
Blowback: a deadly unintended consequence of a covert operation
Thirteen years ago, Jamie Hunt sacrificed everything to keep her sister protected and safe. Now she lives alone, works alone, survives alone. When a covert mission goes horribly wrong, suddenly she can trust no one. Not her boss, not her agency, not even herself.
Lucas Goodman, former FBI agent turned PI, is on the trail of a missing teenager when his investigation leads him to Jamie. Despite her attempts to ditch him, Lucas tenaciously continues to shadow Jamie, realizing he doesn’t just want information...he wants her.
When their investigations collide and her sister is in danger, Jamie is forced to team up with Lucas. Together they must expose the connection between agents’ murders, a missing teenager, and a sixty-year-old government conspiracy. But can she open her heart to find the truth within the lies?
BLOWBACK is the first novel in the Black Cipher Files series. The Black Cipher Files is a fast-paced, edgy romance and espionage series that features hot, alpha heroes and kick-ass heroines, working to uncover long-buried secrets from the past so they can save their future.
USA Today Bestselling Author Lisa Hughey started writing romance in the fourth grade. That particular story involved a prince and an engagement. Now, she writes about strong heroines who are perfectly capable of rescuing themselves and the heroes who love both their strength and their vulnerability. She pens romances of all types—suspense, paranormal, and contemporary—but at their heart, all her books celebrate the power of love.
She lives in Cape Ann Massachusetts with her fabulously supportive husband, two out of three awesome mostly-grown kids, and one somewhat grumpy cat.
Yoga, hiking, and traveling are her favorite ways to pass the time when she isn’t plotting new ways to get her characters to fall in love.
Staci is driving her Lexus SC300 on the Beltway. And she’s being followed. She’s very concerned that the man doesn’t attempt to disguise his appearance; he lets Staci see him.
The guy following her is really hot. Like…super sexy.
We find out that Staci is just an alias—but we never get her real name.
When the two aren’t even that physically close, it’s inexplicable how she feels “heat emanated from his body.”
Shoddy editing.
This story is pretty cringe. The blurb does make it sound like a serious spy tale.
Apparently this is intended to hook readers into a series. The author was not successful.
“Most men are intimidated by the fact that my gun is bigger than their dick.”
This short story is a fairly effective lead in to a potential spy caper type story. The protagonist and setup are reasonably interesting and could form the basis of a pretty good story.
Erotica attempting to disguise itself as a spy story.
The only reason I may not be able to put this story down was if it was superglued to my hands.
Avoid unless you're looking for a sex romp extremely thinly disguised as a spy story.
It's tagged as mystery, suspense and women sleuths. It's none of these. It's erotica. I strongly object to the deceitful and misleading labelling of this story. One assumes the author does this for her other books as well, no matter what their actual content. (Just checked. Book two of Black Cipher does actually tag as romance, the others as thriller, spy or mystery and because this story is not tagged honestly I remain suspicious of the others).
This short story has two lines of story. Agents are missing and the female main character got kidnapped. That's it. It seems to be well written, but I skimmed it looking for a story. I never did find it.
Very realistic. (Yes, that was sarcasm). Two people meet (sober one presumes as they were both driving). Thirty seconds later they're kissing. Two minutes later they're having sex in a motel room. Last lines - she's at her vehicle about to leave and gets kidnapped. That's it folks. Nothing here.
No story, no suspense, no intrigue, just explicit sex, which I can ignore as long as there's a story. There isn't. The only mystery here is why I downloaded it in the first instance. I shall blame my cat, he's done this before although he showed better taste with his first choice, The Iliad.
I most definitely won't be bothering with any more of her work if this is a typical example (99% sex and 1% story). Luckily my recycling bin is empty. Thanks but no thanks.
And even this short (246 locations) it still managed to contain typos.
Just saw the cover which really makes me wonder how on earth I downloaded this as I avidly avoid these books. Must have been persuaded by the blurb. Which must have been either very impressive, or deceptive. (The latter as it happens).
This prequel sets the stage for a very exciting story. I am very anxious to read more about this couple. They had a very steamy beginning with a very abrupt cliffhanger ending.
this is a great taster of what's to come where you get to know Lucas and Jamie with their first encounter which is very hot, they work for their government but different branches.
