If you were of age in the early 80’s, you’ll know who Cagney and Lacey are. In case you need a reminder, they’re a fictional New York City police detective duo played by Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly. If you’ve read Charles Burgess’s novel that he released on March 17, 2012, you’ll know who Cricket and Honey are. They are the butt-kicking, take no prisoner female undercover cops in “Cricket and Honey The Right to remain silent.” And like Cagney and Lacey, they are tenacious, smart, and determined to nab the bad guys.

Burgess’s novel is written in multiple POVs which serves his story well. The book opens with Synai Hutchinson aka Cricket on an undercover job wherein she’s playing the girlfriend of Jacob Crowder, the leader of the Crowder Boys in Detroit. In chapter two we’re introduced to Nikki Booker aka Honey who’s an undercover detective three thousand miles away in Hollywood. And like Cricket, she’s playing girlfriend to a bad guy—Syaid the head of the Murder Tracks label. The book takes off like a rocket when Honey and Cricket bring down their respective bad guys, resulting in the men wanting revenge.

This set-up had me swiping my phone trying to see what would happen next. Will the women, who were unaware of the men plotting to take their lives become victims or will they escape Crowder and Syaid’s devious plots? I don’t want to give away too much, but Burgess in concocting the revenge scenarios really showcases his vivid imagination. There is also an interesting subplot involving a psychopathic serial killer. If you’re in the mood for intrigue, suspense and a page-turner, Honey and Cricket, featuring two fleshed out, likeable, and three-dimensional characters, is the book for you. The ending will leave you wanting more and based on the ending, Burgess may be offering up a second installment.

This was a pretty good read. Good background info on Cricket & Honey and how they became partners. Storyline held my attention as the race for revenge came into play. Minor errors. Their slick & clever tactics for apprehending criminals was a plus. Enjoyed this story & I'm looking forward to reading the next part.

First, this was the second book that I have read by this author. Honestly, I was more impressed with this one than the other, which is not to say the other was not good as well. I can say that I am “picky” when it comes to reading books/short stories, etc. I look for specific things one of which does the storyline keep me interested. This one did so I will look for other titles to read in the future.

This book takes you on a journey of emotions. For me it was a mix of these songs: Jazmine Sullivan’s “Brand New”, Linkin Park’s “Burn It Down”, Tech N9ne’s “Am I A Psycho” and Crystal Waters’ “Gypsy Woman” to name a few. Cricket and Honey work well together despite at some points I honestly thought are they really that “dumb”? But I could tell that this was more of background/ introduction into who they are and the potential that is there to come than an actual complete story. So the cliffhanger was expected.

Mr. Angelou, or as I now call him Mr. Psycho is just that …… It would be nice to see more development into how he plays a role in the whole story. He has the potential to create more chaos and confusion. Trevor is Mr. Psycho Jr… I am curious to see how his character develops and if he becomes more of a liability than an asset cause he just pure “does everything for a show” crazy. That only creates unnecessary attention.

Mr. Syaid and Mr. Crowder these are two interesting characters. However, I’m interested in seeing if they are the biggest dummies of them all. LOL, I just think that they are not as bright as they portray themselves to be. That is the luxury of having people with “brains” around you and you capitalizing on them…. It was just that some of their actions made me think “They can’t be this foolish”. Maybe I’m wrong but hopefully the sequel will determine that I’m not.
Overall, I like where the storyline is going, and it kept my interest. I think that this created a great introduction of who everyone is and their role in the story. I would criticize the grammatical errors, however, since I was made aware prior to reading I will be less harsh on them. I am waiting for the sequel!

Speechless

First off I can't believe I have to wait for part 2. I need that ASAP. Cricket and Honey are no joke. You can't compare them to Cagney and Lacey because they are such much better. As a team they are a force to be reckoned with. If you want a read that will keep you going to the end this is your book right here. I would highly recommend this book.

This is the second book I've read by this author and I got to say this book was good. Cricket and Honey made a great team as undercover agent. Now both are in for a rude awakening when they find out about the news that is coming there way. I hate what happen to Antwan, however I hope that Cricket figures things out and nothing happens. Waiting to next book.

This was a interesting read. It took me quite some time to finish this book. The story is good. The characters were easy to follow. The story line flowed smoothly. This story had numerous editing errors as well as grammatical errors that it made it impossible to finish in a timely matter and it was not formatted for the kindle. The ending is as long winded and you can tell the author was filling in to make a word count. It does not push me to read part 2. Hopefully the writer will take time and re-edit this book.
