OMG!!!!!! Amazing sequel to this series. I literally was left speechless at the conclusion of this book. It's taken me two days to recover in order to even write a decent review! I would like to give props to the author. Ms. Wilder you are amazing! Not only have you reeled me in, but I'm so invested in this story that I will see it to its end. The characters, the plot, the twists and turns, and the beautiful world of Traterra have led me on an emotional roller coaster this week. I've laughed out loud, I've cried, I've yelled, and I was so shocked by the ending that I literally threw my kindle down in a fit of frustration.

The following is quick summary of end of book 1, so if you haven't read it yet, skip this first paragraph!

Book 2 picks up a few weeks after the events of Book 1.
"Is he dead?" This simple question from Beckit stopped my heart and it did not restart till several pages later. A race through the castle, an ominous prisoner who is yelling Beckit's name and a close call with death occur just in the first chapter! We are introduced to a few new characters and creatures as well.

First off Kale........oh how I loathe thee! Kale is Beckit's new erone and boy does he have a stick up his bottom! Tensions rise between the two of them especially with Aaron back in the picture and wanting to be Beckit's erone once more. But not all is what it seems with Broccoli, oops I mean Kale (I had a Tameka slip :) )

We also get a chance to meet the Elves at The Alter......just the name gave me the creeps. The imagery from this particular landscape is amazing. Wilder paints a picture with her words and I had no trouble imagining this awful place.

Boa and Rillage Gaen are back in this book along with Crimson supporters. But who is Crimson? What is he trying to do (beside take over the second seat)? The author has set up a wonderful series and I see many plots coming just from our villains.

All our old favorites are back: Tameka, Royce, Ran, Frost, and Linnie. Along with a few new faves for me: Xoe (Aaron's squire), Denzin and Dozen, and the fatherly knight Atlas. And then of course the muddled romance of Beckit and Aaron. I think this quote from the book sums it up best:
"I am your erone."
"Yes."
"I am your knight."
"Yes."
"I am yours."
"Yes--no, wait, no."

Oh! and the ending...........ARGH!!!!! It is a cliff hanger and I screamed for real when I read it. I will not ruin it by saying what happens but I will say WHY?!?!?!?!

Usually sequels don't live up to their predecessors. This one does! Plenty of action, plot twists, and romance kept the story alive for me. The characters are well developed, the dialogue is humorous if not ironic at times, and the imagery is outstanding! I believe I have a new favorite series/author and I personally can NOT wait for book 3!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Oh. No. You. Didn't!

You (I'm talking to you Miss Author) can NOT leave me hanging like this! I want the next book NOW!

Okay, I'm going to say it but there was WAY too much romance in this one. That's not a bad thing (though I can do without it more often than not) but Beckit kinda let me down for much of the story this time. I really wanted to see her discover her te-trad power and it didn't happen. She spent too much time allowing herself to be bullied and sexually harrassed by Kale, the erone designated to take Aaron's place. There was also the trust/abandonment issues that she had to deal with, but there could have been a better time or place for that. Beckit sweetie, get your hunky erone to train you in basic self-defense. After all, there's a bunch of homicidal maniacs not just out to kill you, but to destroy the world you now call home. Or, as your bff Tameka is always urging, a knee in the gummy bears.

Speaking of which, Tameka was the star this time. Her and her mother (yes you read that right) pretty much stole the show.

I forgot to mention in the previous review about how incredibly creative M.A. Wilder was with her knights. They're shifters, but instead of turning into animals, they shift into metal beings with their swords that come out of their backs. It's really a neat idea. I'd love to read more about how the process of becoming a shifter-knight happens.

Also, I got that Aaron took his duty to guard Beckit with his life seriously. I also got that he had fallen in love with her, but the possessive jealousy thing needs to seriously CHILL. Granted, I was thrilled when that lower than pond scum Kale finally got what he deserved at Aaron's hands, but the rest of his "don't touch my woman" thing started wearing on me. As did the "every male wants Beckit" thing. Neither of these were necessary in my opinion. This series is far too good to get stuck in typical YA/PNR tropes mode.

And this IS a highly imaginative series with lots of twists and turns and definitely humor. Admittedly I do love Beckit and Aaron as a couple and yes, the sexy scenes are definitely well-written (and hot), but as a fantasy reader first, I need my swords and sorcery fix before anything else is allowed to happen.

Thankfully, Beckit gets her groove back (somewhat) for the last half of the book, but to be fair, her behaviour before was just her trying to protect her friends from those out to kill her. This book was a little more bloody, so both Beckit and Tameka know just how serious things are.

This series biggest strength is its diversity as well as the deep bonds of friendship between Beckit and those who've become her new family on Traterra. Yay for Ran and Frost.

I still enjoyed the book but I hope the next one has Beckit coming into her own. Kick-ass heroines are not just a preference, but a requirement.

Let me start by saying that the two stars doesn't mean that I hated this book. It just means that I hated the direction the author took our protagonist in.
As with the first book in this series, Armored, I am in love with the diversity of the cast of characters as well as the bravery the author obviously employed to take the leaps of faith as regards this mix and mash up of myth and legend. As I said with the first book, for that alone I would give this book five stars. The problem lies in the main character who has begun to grate on my very last and wounded short nerve. She has become the tropified princess.
The girl everyone wants.
The One.
The girl in distress.
The helpless ninny.
The person in need of saving "all the time".
The helpless damned near Bella.
Beckit has fallen apart and I don't know her anymore.
Her friend Tameka is a riot and I love that she is still around and causing trouble and backing up her friend. I'm liking Aaron less and less as his jealousy is ridiculous and childish. Kale was an ass but he served his purpose. Everyone except the main characters is fine in my estimation. But I can't stand to see women depicted as the object of every guys pawing hands and lusts, in fallible and oh so cute when she has an attitude. She has ceased to be an important entity. She is every girl. I don't like her.
With all of that said, I will read the third book when it comes out. I want to give a shout out to the Fountain Pen Diva for turning me on to this read. Regardless of the slippery slope of ridiculous the main character has been on, I have been trolling TFPD's list of read books for new books I can read. Books where women of color feature as more than an afterthought are high on my list of "i want to read that".

4 stars -- YAAYYYYY!!! Much better!!! I'm not sure if I just got used to it, or if it was really done better (I'm convinced it's the latter), but the 3rd person felt more limited and less omniscient to me...or else it just wasn't as jarring. But really, the majority of it was in Beckit's head, and I just loved it a lot more. I was able to stay absorbed in the story. And I didn't notice the use of "the human" and "the poh iverstànt" as much. I'm not sure if they were eliminated, or if I was just so absorbed in the story it didn't matter, but whatever it was it was MUCH BETTER!!! And the editing in general was much better, a lot less missed typos...

Holy schnike a lot happens in this book. Well, a lot of different things. We have a few strange twists and turns, some villains to play out, and new creatures to meet. And overall I really enjoyed myself along the ride. There was tension, and action (some gruesome), and oh the feels!!

Normally I'm not a fan of drawn out romantic drama, but I kind of felt for what Beckit was going through, and her reluctance made sense in terms of her background. But I did enjoy how that all developed and played out over the story line. And the steamy scenes fit better somehow, or maybe I'd just accepted them...it's funny how things that will bug me about a first book just won't matter as much in later books b/c it's my choice to continue on, so I just accept that this is the way it's going to be.

I also really enjoyed that Beckit put Aaron in his place a bit about the jealousy and high-handedness. *high fives Beckit!*

And the secondary characters are still freaking amazing, and make up a great cast for this story. And we just ended up with even more in this story, from ones that were constantly present (Xoe, Denzin and Dozen are da freaking bomb), to ones that only appeared for short times (Penn).

And as always, the diversity is still quite present in this book, even adding a little glimpse at transgender as well. I kind of like that not a lot of time is spent on it, it's just present. You know, like real life.

So on the reasons this didn't make 5 stars, I still feel like some of the plot devices? used felt a bit contrived (the whole tension and action at the end of a chapter that is quickly resolved)...or maybe not contrived, but just not my favourite tactic in writing? And I was disappointed that more people didn't clue into what was going on with Beckit and the villain in the first half of the story. It was sort of explained away with other things occupying her friends minds, but it didn't feel like enough for me. And finally, I wish we had learned more about what the heck is going on in the overall plot. Like who is Crimson? What is the Té-Trad supposed to be doing? When is she going to get her abilities? How in the world is this war going to play out?

But despite those little things, I am so sucked in and already eagerly reading the final book. And can I just say that the humour is fantastic? It's the little bits of levity and sass that really win me over every time.

Now, I am going to attempt to get myself together enough to give a proper review without succumbing to my rage and absolute disappointment.

1. I applaud you for finally hiring an editor. Flannery Winchester Keck, you LITERALLY saved this book

2. You have her throwing herself at him after the fight you just made them have at the end of book 1. Unrealistic.

3. You've named this girl's new guard Kale? Like the leafy green? Unimaginative as fuck.

4. Kale demands that Beckit do what he says a lot and frankly, you've written this young black woman so poorly [you've made her a black bella swan], that I truly believe you must be a white woman writing people of color without any insight on our lives. Poor choice. Get some black friends.

5. You said in book one that Denzin and Dozen were nearly identical except for their height and hair. You made Becket observe it. Saying she didn't know they were brothers is stupid. She made that connection ages ago.

6. Kale being so fucking sinister is completely unnerving. It works but the fucking creepy bad touch shit is randomly placed and doesn't help to further the plot. It's just gross and super fucked up.

7. Hakeem Wyvem's reaction to Beckit asking about the other te-trad needs an explanation.

8. Becket and Frost kissing was goddamn stupid, and only brought more drama on their group of friends. Stop writing pointless drama and focus on the FUCKING PLOT, BITCH.

9. Xoe is a sweet baby, and I would die for him.

10. What the fuck is with Beckit trying to wait two whole days before having Kale's bitch ass handled. If she'd let Atlas know or even let Xoe relay the message earlier she would have saved herself a horrifying near sexual assault and a whole lot of anxiety.

11. You have Tameka's entire goddamn family brought to this planet with no explanation, and all her mother wants to do is bitch at her?!?!Honestly, as writing goes, I would appreciate an apology as well as a letter of resignation bitch. Hand in your name tag.

12. Why is Tameka's family so blase about being on an alien planet? UNREALISTIC.

13. This argument between Aaron and Atlas was not needed and was just more drama used to distract from the fact that your plot structure is flimsy. Build plot, then we'll talk.

14. Aaron is completely justified in killing Kale. This was good.

15. Xoe deserves the fucking world.

16. These triplets. Okay. This has me convinced you've never experienced anything remotely like this. To have these women kiss and touch on Aaron and have Beckit held back, when Aaron will punch anyone who looks at Beckit is fucked. I almost stopped reading. This was fucked up.

17. Wyn is a handy transphobic piece of shit. You should have ended his life properly.

18. If you mention this power she doesn't have ONE MORE TIME, without ACTUALLY using it as a plot point, I will bludgeon you with a pillowcase full of fucking bricks.

19. You took this proposal straight out of Diary of a Mad Black Woman. I'm telling Tyler Perry and I hope he sues your unoriginal ass.

20. That cliffhanger was fucking STUPID and UNNECESSARY.

In conclusion the amount of drama outweighs the about of plot you're addressing. You could be good. Hell, you could be fucking great. You need someone who isn't gonna just tell you everything you write is brilliant, because you CLEARLY don't have anyone who wants you to further this barely existant writing career you've somehow decided you wanted.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

What else can I say but WOW! I loved the first book, Armored, and this was just as fantastic. I can't wait for book 3. Ms. Wilder writes such a detailed account that you feel as though you have been transported there yourself. She has such well developed characters and plot that it just pulls you right in.

**Careful reading this review, I went into a little bit more detail than I usually do and it contains a few hints...

This book picks up a short time after the end of Armored with a heart broken Beckit racing through the castle to see if her erone, Aaron, is among the casualties of the latest attack from Crimson. Aaron left her at the end of book 1 because he felt he could no longer keep Beckit safe because he was afraid his feelings for her would interfere with keeping her safe.

Beckit has been assigned a new erone, Kale, who is not only a jerk but a shady one at that! The tension is palpable when Aaron does indeed return realizing his mistake and wants Beckit back. Of course sassy Tameka is still there and still has her bff's back. She also can't stand Kale and very humorously reminds him every time she sees him.

All of our favorites characters are still with us (Tameka, Royce, Ran, Atlas, Frost, Linnie, and Denzin & Dozen) and we meet a few new ones (Xoe, the sparkles, Penn, and Jennifer)who I hope will join us in book 3.

The castle is filled with people who may not be entirely loyal to Taterra, so everyone must be wary.
Will we find out who the mysterious and evil Crimson is? Will they be able to put a stop to his evil campaign to take over Traterra? I hope we don't have to wait long to find out!

Sometimes series books do not live up to the first book but that is absolutely not the case with this one. This book is filled with plot twists and turns, romantic ups and downs, and ends on an absolute cliff hanger. I read it in one sitting - staying up well into the morning because I could not put it down. I am absolutely hooked on this series!

Wonderful character development

Honored met all of my expectations, and definitely raised the bar set in Armored. I was (and am still) blown away by the character growth in Aaron. In the very beginning of Armored, there was a niggling feeling like their relationship wouldn't last because he was very protective of her. ( Nearly to the point of possessive/obsessive ) Needless to say, it blossomed. They never had a perfect instalove connection, but that's what made it so real. They had to learn to pick their battles and grow as a couple to better handle outside conflict. (Cough, Kale) Aaron realized how important trust and respect were to Beckit, and all around loosened up and became less jealous of her relationships... Beckit broke down her walls to really let Aaron in, even though she was scared of getting hurt/ losing him again. She finally told him that she loved him.

I also really, really liked getting to know Denzin, Dozen, and Xoe. They were integrated into the story from the first page, and Bekit really came to depend on them to see her through. Linnie is also still prevalent, in all her (admittedly cute) grumpy glory.

I received this book and the first in this series from Paranormal Romance & Authors that Rock.  This book did not disappoint.  I loved this book just as much as the first, if not more.
Beckit and her motley crew of misfits are back and they still are trying to save an alien planet.  I love how easy to read Wilder's books are.  Often with sci-fi and fantasy I find myself confused or rereading paragraphs for clarification but not with these books.  It reads smoothly.  The characters are well developed and lovable.  Most of them AREN'T the cool kids which makes me root for them even more.  I love how Wilder portrays their true ages by having them have game nights, parties, and movie nights all while trying to catch the bad guys.  Such a fun read with plenty of action and romance to boot.  Big cliff hanger though!  Huge!  Bad ,Wilder, bad.  ;)

2 sleepless nights because I couldn't put it down. The book pulled me in from the beginning and had me until the very last line! And the end...OMG the end!!! It had me texting my friend at 1am!

I enjoyed the characters, Tameka is still awesome. I naturally hated Kale, or Asparagus or Spinach...whatever leafy green vegetable we're calling him today! LOL I liked the introduction to the new characters. Xoe is great, I'm curious about Penn, and I think Era is going to be a trip (but you probably have to be to be married to the crazy dragon man)

The whole book made me want to yell at Beckit to get over her issues and be with Aaron! So happy for the other two couples! How fun!

Congrats Wilder...I have a new fantasy crush. As overly testosteroney, obsessive, possessive Aaron was........still in love!

Overall this was a great, quick, easy read. Definitely looking forward to the next!
