I thought there were some great smoothie recipes, but the other recipes are like "Better Homes and Gardens"-ish.

I do have two issues with this book. First, I am so sick of diet books that start with diet-bashing and then offer up a diet of their own. Yes, diets don't achieve results long-term, and they are expensive and time-consuming to maintain, and inconvenient, and the research says for these reasons and more that diets don't work. And the answer to this problem is . . . "The Body Reset (TM) Diet"!! Which, as it turns out, is a DIET. Eat three smoothies and two snacks a day, 1200 calories total, and slowly replace two of those shakes with a healthy meal over a three week period. Maybe it works for some, doesn't for others, fine. But this is a diet, so let's make sure we call it that.

Second, -- this sounds persnickety, but it's really not -- footnotes would have been so much better than end notes. This book is tiny with basically 150 pages of text (and that includes the diagrams of the exercises, so not a ton of words), easy enough for a 5th grader to understand. But the format already crowds the latter half, with recipes, an index, and several appendices -- and the citations don't contain much commentary. Just put them in the body of the text, for the love, so the reader doesn't have to keep flipping back and forth to see what studies matter to this particular author.

That is all.

It's a good book to read, but not so good. The book explains only the basic and general tips on weight loss.

I drink alot of smoothies and found the smoothie recipes in this book to be really good tasting and satisfying (I also liked the alternative protein suggestions - I don't love protein powder, but I don't mind using the greek yogurt - which also gives the smoothie a great texture).

I didn't think the 'regular' meal recipes looked all that good, and I actually am not interested in following the plan, which includes starting for 5 days with smoothies for all 3 meals - but I thought it was an interesting read and the smoothie recipes alone made it worth 3 stars for me.

Excellent Lifestyle that Sooo Works!!!

My DH (Darling Husband) and I read the book and began our 15-day reset...well...15 days ago, and we are amazed at the results! Not only did we both lose major pounds (17 for the DH), but we feel fantastic!

This is the first lifestyle change I've ever made and NEVER felt hungry, anxious, or uncomfortable. I feel terrific and am thrilled we're now living a Harley-lifestyle!!!

Thanks sooo much, Harley!!! U rock!!!

I'm a harsh critic of diet/recipe books but i had higher hopes for this than i should have. I strongly disliked the constant plugging of vitamin water zero, kraft cheese, and other specific brand named items that are known among the health community to be generally bad for all human bodies. The smoothie recipes are great, the encouragement to walk more and train less is appreciated, but the rest i could do without.

Simple easy to follow plan with some really delicious smoothies. The apple pie and red smoothie are 2 of my new favorites!

I didn't follow it strictly - more to get ideas of a better way to balance whole foods, including carbs and protein. I do like that he recommends protein with every meal, including snacks and provides some actually do-able options.

I'm not sure if I should rate this 3 or 4 stars.

If you're expecting a lot of information on nutrition or something very advanced, this book is not for you. It's rather short and I could resume it down to 10.000 steps a day, smoothies, and regular short interval exercises.

For me personally this works. In the sense that I am already someone who strives to walk 10.000 steps a day, I love smoothies, and some of these were absolutely delicious. And filling, I'm not hungry at all after having them.

What annoyed me is the meagre collection of vegetarian or vegan recipes, Pasternak seems to rely mostly on animal protein. I might try some recipes but in all honesty, the real thing it did was to remind me of portions and how off they are most of the time. Oh, and he's really into avoiding fat. Get that 2% yoghurt and put some olive oil in your salad, it will do you good.

I do plan on replacing one meal a day with a smoothie from now on, it seems to work for me. And I will try all the smoothies, not just the main three, I'm sure there is some gold there as well.

The most sensible approach to leading a healthy lifestyle that I've seen in a long time. Pasternak focuses on good eating habits--healthy protein and fiber--from fruit and vegetables-- combined with a small amount of healthy fat--and leading an active life. The exercises are easy to do and Pasternak recommends walking as much as possible.

Eating healthy doesn't have to be expensive or a chore. The recipes for sandwiches and stir fries couldn't be easier to follow. None of the ingredients used are expensive or exotic. Everything you need to follow the program is easily available.

The smoothie recipes are the best. So delicious, my kids enjoy them as well. Highly recommended whether you want to lose weight or maintain it. I'd also recommend Pasternak's 5-Factor workout DVD.

Very sensible approach to eating healthy throughout your life. The recipes I've tried have been excellent. I do wish he had more information on creating/adapting your own recipes to his carb/protein equation.

I love smoothies; they’re often my go to breakfast. But to drink them twice a day every day on a diet? No thanks. I prefer a more well rounded approach to health.

Get ready to change your life!

I was skeptical when I first started reading Harley's book, but after following phases 1-3 and beyond, I can say that it provided an easy and enjoyable way to change my eating and exercise lifestyle. I can honestly say I no longer crave my unhealthy snacks and look forward to exercising - thank you, Harley!

I found some of these smoothie recipes online a few months ago and had been using them a couple times a week with a workout/healthy eating program I was doing. I am not looking for a diet and have never had a weight problem, but I figured that since I was borrowing the recipes, I might as well read the philosophy behind the diet as well. I actually like the idea of this program. I get so sick of trying to make healthy changes only to have someone tell me I am still eating too much sugar in fruit or fat in avocados or carbs in everything. It makes me want to go back to a diet of brownies for breakfast and cookies for lunch. I get so bored with haters. I like the body reset diet because it allows fat, and carbs and sugars and tries to balance and moderate what our bodies need. It is also a very mild exercise program so I think this would be an easy plan to get anyone started on the road to better health or weight loss, and I like that eventually it steps up to two freebie meals a week. This seems like a healthy and feasible life plan. I am not sure I will ever follow it exactly but I learned some useful tips. I will keep using the smoothie recipes, and I like the info on combining protein and fiber at every meal/snack so I will try to utilize that info as well but I do not think I will incorporate any of the solid meal recipes. I like my own cooking better, but there is some good info here. 3.5 stars but I will round to 4 because most diet books make me so frustrated and this one did not.

Yet another diet book for people who have nothing to do other than manage their food intake. Don't waste your precious time unless you have an abundance of it to throw into this plan. This is a lifestyle guide, not a diet or a limited time engagement recommendation. If that appeals to you, then it's got a lot of great information in it. But...if you're not paid or obsessive about body health and fitness, this book dictates a commitment that's likely far outside your reach.
I am giving it a second star solely based on the amount I learned while reading it. Not only does it have a lot of well-founded information of its own, I did a lot of outside research trying to justify investing into its recommendations. In the end, it wasn't for me, but I'm sure there are people out there who would love it.

I'd say this was one of the better diet books I've read. His approach is simple, and seems to be both healthy and effective. Thank heaven here's a book that basically stresses the importance of eating fruits and veggies, while at the same time not buying into the fads of low fat, low carb, or high protein. I think he's right that we need a balanced combination of the macronutrients, and his smoothies also make sure the person eating them is getting plenty of micronutrients as well. For the record, the smoothies are delicious, and even if I never lost a pound on this diet, I would continue to use these recipes. His no-nonsense approach to exercise as part of the program is also commendable.
