The door read: Tessa Saint.
The truth was: she was nothing of the sort.
Even the name was a lie.

The woman most men fantasized about, a domme, a walking wet dream, and a master with a whip, Tessa Saint took charge and delivered on that fantasy. But Emmy--the woman Tessa became once she walked out the door of the club--was getting tired of the game. It was time to try the vanilla life.

The door read: Nathaniel Walsh
The truth was: the man was an open book
Emmy was interested in reading.

Nathaniel was instantly attracted to the enigma of Emmy, and against her better judgement she lead him into her world of whips and blindfolds, kink and domination. Having a man unencumbered with perceptions of her lifestyle, Emmy could not resist Nathaniel at the tip of her lash, his willing bedroom submission.

The door read: Club Imperial
The truth was: Emmy hid there in the dark for a reason.
She should never have left the comfortable shadows.

Her secrets would find a way to the light- and it was only time until Emmy's lies were torn away and the truth revealed. Nathaniel wasn't ready for that.

Neither was she.

“Love does funny things,"

“Love can do kinky things too,

Emy and her alter ego, Tessa Saint is a woman in need of control to keep her demons at bay, she needs her rules, her boundaries and limits for a reason and it isn't one she wants to find her again. But lately she's hasn't found that sated feeling she gets when she dishes out her pain, and running into Nathaniel just confuses her more. Nathaniel isn't from her world, as vanilla as any one man ca be, luckily for him, he has the passion and the need for her to tempt her into trying something she's never done before.....vanilla sex and vanilla life, could she do it?
“This is what couples do, Emmy,” he said, slowly pulling his fingers away. “They learn about each other. It's a give and take. I like feeling you quiver in my arms, I love hearing you whimper. I love knowing I do that to you. And if you're willing to try my way, I can try it your way. But tonight is mine. Can you give that to me?”

Give and take, compromises and honesty. While the sex maybe off the charts, it's all so new and all so different, both are playing a very dangerous game with emotions and hearts...especially with no rule book to guide them. But while they are lost to themselves, her past threatens everything they started and the future they hope to share.

Consensual sadly isn't a book for me, I read it wanting a strong dominant female who does what she loves and makes no excuses for herself. I probably set my self up to fail, seeing as it was my own expectations that killed the experience for me. Emy is a dominant, but she does it more out of self preservation then it being who she is, it's almost as if you could turn that part of you off and suddenly want something else. I don't know, I can't judge, but I would assume that it would be very much ingrained in who you are and not just what you do. Nathaniel was an interesting lead, he isn't an alpha male, being on the sweeter side, it didn't bother me but then again it did nothing for me either. The story is told from both their POV, and their story does continue on, but I don't think I will continue with them. I would encourage others to try, as this was my own personal reaction to this book, sadly I can't love them all.

The synopsis of this story is very misleading (IMO). A number of things don't make sense, and it has a huge cliff-hanger that has nothing to do with the things that pissed me off about this story.

Maybe book two will explain why she didn't let anyone look at her tits, but I will never know because I don't care enough to read it.

If you are looking to read some hot D/s (Fm) scenes you WON'T find them in this story. The first full sex scene finds Domme Emmy on the bottom. She is so strong she gives her control to him.

In fairness to the author, it's not a bad story just way off the mark of what I expected!

Full review to follow once I calm down.

At a time when BDSM, domination and submission have become more prevalent in the erotic genre, comes this novel from Katherine Rhodes that for me is offering readers a fresh perspective . . . the dominant is a woman.

In Consensual we meet Emmy Westerly (the Domme) and Nathaniel Walsh (her boss’ brother). They are drawn to each other instantly, but Emmy is hesitant as Nathaniel’s sexual history is all vanilla. As she slowly introduces him to her lifestyle, and he opens himself to it, we also see Emmy allow herself to be vulnerable as she allows herself a bit of vanilla. If you’ve ever wanted to understand more about a Ds relationship, this is definitely a must read for you . . . there are many factors for why Emmy has become a Domme and I feel having a male as the submissive makes it even more clear as to how being the sub in the relationship is NOT about weakness.

Keep in mind . . . this story is about so much more than the sex. At the same time Emmy and Nathaniel are discovering each other, Nathaniel and his brother are also dealing with outside forces who are trying to take them and their business down. Sadly, for Emmy, those involved are also cruel reminders of her past and how she came to live the lifestyle she lives.

It’s never easy to wait for the next release in a series, but Katherine has given readers a story that will make it worthwhile. Just hope the wait isn’t long.

If you are looking for an honest, believable, yet mysterious erotic romance that will stick with you, Consensual is an absolute MUST READ!!

this one was a free kindle book.

i didn't mind the story, sort of liked it and the characters actually.... but what was that. nothing happened. where was the character growth? what exactly was the point of that book? i just felt like it was an intro and then when things finally started getting interesting and it looked like we might get some resolution or growth... bam it was over. and a cliffhanger ending at that.

disappointed.

Blurb: From the moment Nathaniel laid eyes on Emmy Westerly, he wanted her in his life. He would do anything to get her there and keep her there. To his surprise, Nathaniel found himself quickly pulled into Emmy’s dark world of whips and blindfolds, kink and submission. He was intrigued not only by the thrill of it, but by the enigma which led Emmy there as well.

Emmy could not resist Nathaniel Walsh. She couldn’t deny the electricity between them, the utter animal magnetism she felt for him. Emmy was mystified by someone as honest and uncomplicated as Nathaniel allowing her to lead him into the dark. She adored having him at the tip of her lash.

But Emmy had secrets – deep, cruel truths which led her to Club Imperial, and staying with Nathaniel would mean telling him everything. He wasn’t ready for that. Neither was she.

Review

Hmmmmm I have mixed feelings towards this book. There were parts that caught my attention but there were other parts that totally bored me.

Emmy is a domme at Imperial an exclusive kink club. She is used to living her life by her rules. She loves having the same routine. Emmy has dark past that she doesn’t speak to. She had a horrible stepfather and her mom wasn’t there for her.

Nathaniel is rich, hot, sweet, kind of a boy next door. He is used to working and having the sense of accomplishments. He is not an alpha male…more of a submissive.

Ok, here is my problem with this story. I read of all types of books. So, when I started this book I wanted to love it, I wanted to feel a connection with the characters.. but that did not happened. Emmy, frustrated me at times.. There were times when she was so vague with everything… yet she wanted to be with Nathaniel without letting him in not even a bit. I loved that she was upfront about everything and really told him how she felt about a relationship and what she wanted from him. Nathaniel, Jesus Christ seriously…. There were times when Emmy did anything she wanted and he didn’t even say anything. Usually the heroine tends to frustrate me.. But in this case he did. I felt like he was just going with the motion.. Like he wanted to be with her and he was just accepting anything he could give her. I wanted them to have a 50/50 relationship but at the end I felt like they didn’t even had a relationship to begin with.

The sex scenes were hot and there were a lot… but I didn’t feel a connection with either of them. At times I found myself skipping some pages because I had figured out what was going to happened. I loved Victor though for some reason he stood out more than Emmy and Nathaniel…mostly because what he went through which was damn messed up. I hope the author writes a HEA for him.

Sooooo.. good sex scenes, hot female domme, sexy hero. I hope you read this and decide for yourself about this book. I’m in no way trying to bash this author.

Hope Emmy and Nathaniel find their way on the second book.

I loved this book! So many stories are about the Alpha Male introducing BDSM to a young, innocent female. It was fascinating to have the roles reversed with a Domme teaching the lifestyle to the good looking male!

Although there is plenty of hot sex, this story is about so much more. It’s a story about trust, overcoming your past and allowing yourself to have the future you’re not convinced you deserve. It ends in a cliffhanger that will have you YELLING “NOOOO,” but you will not be able to put this book down.

Emmy Westerly begins a new job at Walsh Distribution and becomes involved with Nathaniel Walsh. Emmy is running from her past and uses her lifestyle to compensate for the lack of control she had growing up. She needs control and routine to balance her demons. Nathaniel questions her lack of commitment to him but is curious about her lifestyle and wants to learn more about it, and her. His feelings and thoughts are true to “real-life,” the same as any of us who are not in the lifestyle, would feel. Because of this, you will have no problem relating to these characters. Their journey of discovery is emotional and hot.

This book is very well written. There’s something for everyone; romance, corporate espionage, fraud, mystery and suspense. The characters are likable and grab you from the very beginning. You get caught up in their journey to find happiness while getting a look into the psychology of this lifestyle. I cannot wait to read the next book. Emmy and Nathaniel both deserve to be happy and you’ll be rooting for their HEA!

Move over fifty shades......
All the "excited" words, amazing, gripping, enjoyable, addictive, engrossed, etc etc and so much more! This book is probably the best I've read since..... yeah you get the picture! This is a definite page turner, you'll lose hours just wanting to know what happens, reaching the end with a definite OMG NOOOOOOOOO. It is a series, but definitely worth the read, fifty shades from a woman's view as the domme, so expect the kinky, sexy and raw emotion, but you'll fall in love with the leads, the brother, the torment, and bring on the next edition, cannot wait.

Gahhhh… dang cliffhanger and I still don't know what Emmy's deal is with her boobies! :) But I absolutely LOVE Nathanial and I love this whole role reversal to who is a dom/sub in the relationship. I also had a "wow" moment at 36% when Siobhan explained her store and the lifestyle to playing an instrument. BEST metaphor/explanation ever! I really liked this book. Really great perspective. Sexy, interesting... I'll be reading book 2 soon! :)

Awesome book! It's 18+ only; spanking, bondage, lots of sex.

A break from all the male Doms; great story and interesting characters. Pittsburgh comes off as an interesting place for a BDSM club; Emmy is a really great, strong female character. Killer cliffhanger-- that was mean.

More like "Didn't Start" than "Didn't Finish" - I couldn't get past the first few chapters of this.

I used to think I rarely DNF'd a book - though it appears I've either gotten pickier the last couple years, or there's a lot more not very readable "kinky romance" out there than I thought....

What I liked about this book:-
- Unlike many of these erotic novels, the 'dominant' in the BDSM relationship was female rather than male;
- There were several strong story lines that did not rely totally on the sex scenes;
- The sex and BDSM scenes were very good.
What I didn't like about the book:-
- Even though the main male character was the 'sub', he was still rich and money was no object (a la FSOG etc.);
- Apart from a few minor typos and missing words, there was a major error in the story. On page 165, the main character Emmy says to 'boyfriend' Nathaniel - 'Chantal wants to know if you want to go out again this Friday. Apparently she and Tyrone had a great time with us last week'. ONLY THEY DIDN'T, COS THE FOUR OF THEM HAD NEVER BEEN OUT TOGETHER BEFORE. We didn't even know Chantal's new boyfriend's name by this time and Emmy and Nathaniel had only been 'dating' a couple of times themselves. Whether this was an incident featured in a different edition (I noticed there is a 'VIP Edition' of this book) I don't know but it really jumped out at me;
- [SPOILER ALERT] Also want to know how two men, one of whom has been banned from the club and the other who is not a member managed to get in to Emmy's room at the Imperial without being stopped by security!;
- The story was left on too much of a cliffhanger so you feel almost obliged to purchase the next book.
Without these issues, particularly the story line failure, would probably have been a five star rating. As it is, still thought it worth 9/10 and look forward to reading the second book.

As I am finding myself drawn more and more to these dark and edgy books, I am discovering a respect for these broken men and women. This book introduced Emmy and Nathaniel and Club Imperial.

Emmy has secrets and needs control in her life due to past demons she struggles to keep away daily. she ventures out into the "vanilla" world and lands a new job. She is attracted to her bosses brother Nathaniel. He's vanilla to her dark chocolate world but she puts it out there to him about her lifestyle and the fact that she's a Dominant not only in the bedroom but also her controlled life. Nate is willing to explore her world as he falls for her. The story has many twists and turns to it and I sure didn't see the end coming! I am looking forward to the second book due out this fall.

Aside from a few editing errors in the book which did not take away from the story at all, I am going to give this book 5 Stars for keeping me interested, emotionally vested in the characters and the sex scenes were hot but very tastefully done with much eroticism to them. I love when an author introduces a little mystery into the story to keep the readers on edge and guessing what'll happen next.

AHHH!!!!!! OMG...oMG....OOOOOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a fan-freaking-tastic book!!

I am freaking the hell out, twitching to get my hands on the second book and continue reading!

Wow, just WOW!

Katherine Rhodes, you have yourself a lifetime fan here!

The book was so good. The characters are amazing!! The story line is phenomenal...like seriously...who wouldn't love to read about a Domme for a change of pace.

I fell in love myself with Nathaniel and Emmy! These two have some serious obstacles to overcome to be able to come to terms with the vanilla lifestyle and the BDSM aspect as well. But my GOD! I never would have thought reading about a man being the sub being as amazing as it was!

Consensual (Club Imperial Book 1) by Katherine Rhodes was an outstanding read. The first thing people need to know is that this book is HOT and it is BDSM themed. So Emmy is a complex character she is a Domme so that means she is strong and use to giving direction, but she is afraid to get emotionally involved because of her past but I just can’t help but love her. Then you have Nathaniel one of the top dogs of the company who is nothing but drool worthy, alpha male, protector, but for Emmy he is willing to look into her way of life and he starts to like it. This book about killed me with the way it ended talk about your cliffhanger but you so need to read this book and the good part is the second book is out now.

How irritating to have the book end...in the middle of the story. Such a obvious attempt to sell the next book. i wasn't overwhelmed with the writing to start with. Competent but not compelling. Emmy is a Domme who falls for a Nathanial, a regular guy who was not in the BDSM lifestyle. Sticking with the story was to give the author a fair chance. And then she ends it with nothing resolved. I won't read the next book unless it is flippin' free.

'Consensual' book 1 in the Club Imperial Series by Katherine Rhodes is a amazing story! This is the first time I've read Katherine's work and it definitely won't be the last. I loved this story and characters. I can't wait to see what happens with Emmy and Nathaniel in book 2 of the Club Imperial Series 'Broken Bonds'. This story pulls you in and you don't want to stop reading! Highly recommend this book!

I really enjoy this book. It was a wonderful to see a female domme. I loved how Emmy was the dom and yet Nathaniel is a dom in his business world and is willing to try with Emmy. Nat is really caught between a rock and a hard place but it just feels right with Emmy! The end really is so cliffhanger because I really want to know what the hell is going on with Emmy.

Just done a great read, up to 28% of the book. I have to admit that this is really a great book, written with a skillful manner and good language. And this is the best novel I have read until today, I believe I can finish it quickly.

This is not only a book of BDSM, psychology also. There is a clear logic of the plot, everything does make sense.

Emmy is a domme with a personality of fully described, she's not like like some types of one dimension domme who is only harsh and demanding. She has PTSD, of which I learned from the beginning of chapter 19 and some part of early pages refer to she has suffered from trauma. She has a stepdad that she referred as a bastard. Her real father divorced with his wife and killed by a accident. And then, her life becomes a uncontrollable and unpredictable tragedy. This is why she craves to be in control, and be in control makes her feel safer.

Emmy really wants to make Nate as her real boyfriend after dozens of short term and long term sex partner. She really love Nate but because of her trauma experiences, she can't love him in a proper way. She has hard limits and weak points that I am not figuring out what exactly is, at least til chapter 20. She just can't accept somebody would love her, as she can't trust others anymore except franz.

There was a reason she was a Domme. There was a reason she needed to be always in control, to have her lovers tied up and obedient. She didn't want to feel like this, ever.

I actually started this book for the erotic purpose, fast and light reading without taking it seriously. But this book take me seriously, I think I am most likely to continue to the book II.

Very very good story

I was hooked fast into the story. I couldn't put it down for 2 days. I even bought the next book. This was the first time I have read a book by this author. Loved the writing style and scene descriptions. The only flaw was the cliffhanger. Would be better if sold in a box set. I can't wait to start the next one.
Overview. Nathaniel was a powerful man in Pittsburgh. He was born of wealth and he and his brother took over the family business. Nathaniel took his snotty girlfriend to a new club. Club imperial is for vip only people. The club houses kink in different levels. Nathaniel's girlfriend leaves him for another guy while there. But Nathaniel's eyes caught something even better. Tessa aka Emmy his brothers new assistant. She was a Domme there. He knew he had to have Emmy, but could he except not being in charge. Emmy works as a secretary during the day and Domme at night. But Nathaniel throws her control out of balance and she needs to find common grounds for them to have a relationship. But all her drama from the past keeps holding her back. What will she decide to do?

Consensual (Club Imperial Book 1) – Katherine Rhodes

TRIGGER WARNING: The FMC is a tortured young woman with a past so disturbing that some readers might find it a bit too confronting. If you are easily triggered by taboo subjects around under aged child abuse, this book might not be for you.

This saucy little story has some major plot twists. Completely unexpected. I found the story engaging despite the subject matter. It was really well written and gave us wonderful character development for both the FMC and the male lead. The supporting characters were also very well developed so we had a real sense of the crew surrounding our leading lady.

Emmy is a young woman on a knife edge. She is struggling to come to terms with her bleak childhood. Her way to control certain aspects of her life is by working part time as a Domme at an upscale BDSM club.

She gains a day job as an admin/exec assistant for Victor Walsh, the CFO at a family business run by two brothers. The other brother, Nathaniel Walsh is the COO. Nathaniel is completely taken with Emmy from day one. They begin dating and it becomes clear that Nathaniel is more than willing to embrace a little adventure in their sexual activities. The BDSM is not too heavy. I would say just enough for the curious.

The most disappointing part of this story was the cliff hanger ending, which was not apparent in the blurb and was totally unexpected until the last chapter. It threw me a bit TBH. I obtained the second book which is the conclusion for this couple’s story arc. I was not disappointed.

I gave this four stars.

Well, this certainly was a pleasant surprise! Rhodes intricately weaves the world of BDSM into this love story. However, it’s not just a love story, which makes this such an enthralling read. Yes, the BDSM aspects are spicy and delicious. The rest of the story though has so many levels and all of those levels only add to the overall story. Emmy is a complex FMC and you only scratch her surface in this first novel. Nathaniel also only scratches the very precipice of what he may or may not enjoy in Emmy’s world. I thoroughly enjoyed she was the power player in this novel. All of the little twists certainly weren’t expected but just made it so much better to read. Plus it’s set in Pittsburgh PA which is close to my heart!
