Two charmed and sexy novellas set in Mysteria, the beguiling little Colorado town where magic is in the air and passions run high—and not because of the altitude. Hundreds of years ago, in the mountains of Colorado, Mysteria was founded by a random act of demonic kindness. Today, it’s a magnet for the supernatural, where magic quietly coexists with the mundane world. But now two sisters are about to unleash a tempest of seduction that will have tongues wagging for centuries to come... “The Witches of Mysteria and the Dead Who Love Them” Genevieve is a witch with a bad case of unrequited love for a local bar owner. But is his sudden change of heart the result of a love potion—or a literally breathtaking passion? “A Tawdry Affair” Glory, witch of love, wants her man. Unfortunately, he barely knows she exists—until a magic pen brings her creative fantasies of seduction, sex, and delicious revenge to life.

I really enjoyed both of these short stories that are in this book. This is the first time I have read anything by this author but I do believe I will be reading more. It was very captivating and I was able to follow along with ease. AND IM NOT A PNR reader!
This is an anthology set in the small town of Mysteria, a haven for any kind of magical creature, witches, vampires, shifters, fae you name it and it lives in Mysteria. The Tawdry sisters are witches and Mysteria has always been their home, and now they plan on seducing their manusing any magical means possible...
The Witches of Mysteria and the Dead Who Love Them
Genevieve has loved Hunter since she was 17 years old, but although she could swear he feels the same for her he keeps pushing her away. She may now be bordering on some...stalkerish extremes to get his attention, but Evie knows he feels something. So what harm could a short dress, a love potion and a wish possible do?
This was a great short story! With Gena's usual fun and sexy style it was full of energy and I read it with a smile on my face. With very few pages some interesting and intriguing characters were established and a steamy romance heated up my kindle screen.
A Tawdry Affair
Glory wants revenge on the man who cruelly rejected her. Luckily her sister is a witch of vengeance and gives her a magic pen, everything she writes will come true for a short period of time. Unluckily she still desires him, so what would be better vengeance then seducing and rejecting him?
This was my favourite story in the anthology, Glory was funny and sarcastic, just my kind of gal. Plus I love a heroine with a few body issues, especially when she gets the tall and sexy guy. The sexual tension really heated up in this one, and once again I hate a great sexy and sweet short story that couldn't get enough of.
This was a good anthology, it was fairly short as it only contained two novellas but I liked both stories, when normally anthologies can be a little hit and miss. I would recommend this if you are a Gena fan and if you are looking for something light and fun to read.
The only reason I finished this was because of the price I paid for the e-book. I refuse to "dnf" a book that costs me $9.99. The only redeeming quality to the book was the town in which the story is set which is why it get's 1 star. Other than that, this is pure fluffer. No real story. Just weirdness. The sexy times were even off kilter. It felt like it was just slapped together and forced. The damn book was shorter than her Lords series and cost more. WTH? No way you would think Showalter wrote this. If you're a true fan, I would wait til your library has it because if you gotta shell out the $10 charge you're going to be supremely pissed at one of your favorite authors.
Staying true to form of trying to read everything Gena Showalter has put out I just finished this gem. It has two novellas to make it into one novel. Both were fantastic. Both deal with the Tawdry sisters who are powerful witches in the town of Mysteria where all kinds of paranormals live together. The first novella is about Genevieve who has been in love with Hunter forever but when she is the reason he dies she can't forgive herself. That is until he is brought back as a vampire. His sire, Barnabas Vlad (no joke), wanted him to be his lover but Hunter doesn't swing that way. So Barnabas lets Hunter know about a blood appetite suppressant which lets him live a semi-normal life with Genevieve. In the second one Glory is the youngest and chubbiest of her sisters. She has vowed revenge on Falon for embarrassing her when she threw herself at him. So in order to enact that revenge she is give a pen that writes whatever she wants into reality, for a limited time. That is good enough for her. But when she finds out that Falon has been craving her ever since is move to Mysteria all of her plans for revenge go up in smoke.
This novel is a must read and it was so quick. I read it in a day and I even worked during that day and I don't get to read at work. That's how quick pace the story is. And it is only a little over 200 pages so it is delightful read when you don't want to invest time and want a one and done.
Love this author but these stories were just missing something for me. It left me wanting more detail more prolonged story plots etc.....overall good read just wish it was a bit more developed even if it meant we needed two separate stories altogether.
Absolutely loved the stories in this book. Yet again, Gena Showalter has knocked it out of the park with her lovable characters, interesting plotlines and fantastic settings. Would love to read more based on characters from this magical town she has created.
DNF'ed I didn't like these MC's at all and I think this is what took me so long to try the book, I must have started it gotten annoyed put it down, and just don't remember it. I love Showalter books, but these novellas just didn't cut it for me.
I could not put this book down. The characters felt so real and their trauma so powerful and accurate. The pull they each felt was electrifying and I fell in love right along with them. Highly recommend to 18+ women who enjoy hot and steamy romance!
I absolutely loved these stories and wish there were more!! It doesn't matter what my head space is like, Gena's books always put me in a better fantasy place, at least for a little while!
I have to say that I was skeptical when I ordered this book. I am super glad that I did order it because I loved both of the stories that are in this book. They are some of the authors earlier works and they are great! This is one of my favorite authors of paranormal romance. She is able to create stories that suck us in to the world that she has created. These stories do the exact same. I was hooked from page one. I am also a fan of the comedic timing this author has. There are some truly brilliant and witty parts to this book that leave you laughing out loud. (note your spouse and children may think you are mad).
I wish the author would continue this story line with further books!
Two novellas in one book. Both stories take place in a funky little town chock full o' supernatural shenanigans and... yeah, that's pretty much it. The setting was interesting, the stories were not. They read like a high school composition project. Bits and pieces didn't come together, facts and details didn't mesh. The characters were sad, silly and uninspiring. While the heroines are busy telling themselves they are strong, powerful women; they're behaving like mad stalker cows with low self-esteem. Even the sex isn't sexy. It just doesn't work, and no it's not ironic, it's just bad writing. Give this a miss and read some of Gena Showalters later books. MUCH better.
um not overly sure how to describe this one. Definitely weird short stories sent in a very interesting town. Both short stories were fun and a bit weird but certainly hot. I will say that i had a bit of issue with the real lack of self esteem these women had until they finally bagged their men and then their confidence just shoots through the roof. But other than that little weakness it was good. Drastically different from everything else i've ever read by Gena.
Sad really. I bet she wrote this in Jr. High. Silly, and the the facts often contradict. Like saying he wondered what she tasted like(now)when he saw from their first kiss (much earlier) he would die if they got involved. 2nd story - she put him in chains in a cell. Then the chains reversed onto her later because it was negative?? Also, the first time they transported with the spell they went back to their original spots after...and then they didn't. Etc. Don't waste your time!
I truly did enjoy these stories. I haven't read anything dealing with Mysteria, Colorado or any of it's creatures before this but I will have to check into them. The Tawdry sisters are three very entertaining witches. The things they won't do to win the men they truly want. A vampire, a werewolf, and a Fae who are just as stubborn as the women they fall for.
Wonderful two story story of the witch sisters Evie her eyes one fella who she knows likes her and she determined to have him.lovely and frustrating story and her sister gets a nice surprise. Glorious revenge on falcon is so funny. Loved it from start to finish.
As a said wonderful short stories you won't want to miss.
This was the worst book my Showalter that I've read. I only gave it a two star rating because the second novellas wasn't half bad and at least it was interesting and entertaining. I didn't like Evie's story: she was a stalker plain and simple. I just didn't find it appealing at all. Glory's story is different. It was snarky, witty, humorous and sexy.
Two short stories. First, not so great. Second, much better. I was somewhat let down, because Showalters usual fantastic writing was lacking in this book.
This was just too silly. I felt as if I was reading some high school attempt at creative writing. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Gena Showalter's books most of the time. This just wasn't one of them.
