Hi, so excited about being on Goodreads and sharing my Middle School books with you! I live in beautiful Noosa, in Australia. For most of my life I was a teacher of Middle School kids, and what an awesome experience that was. It gave me the opportunity to understand the problems that kids go through. My writing partners are Kaz and Bill Campbell, they were also Middle School Teachers. We hope you enjoy our books as much as we love writing them for you!!!
Downloaded this e-book for my horse mad granddaughter & read it with her. She is so horse mad that she wants her own horse one day & has started a "horse fund" to help her get one of her very own. Highly recommended reading for anyone who loves horses. The diary format is especially unique & we loved every minute spent with this delightful book!
I downloaded this to help in my research for my urban fantasy novel about horse mad girls. I love horses and rode for many years . This is a touching story and I loved how it was written
This is a lively active tale, following a girl aged nearly nine who is lucky enough to be given her first pony. Sparkle is a calm palomino mare 13 hands high, just right and older now but still keen to jump and have fun.
I am not sure where the tale is set, but given that summer weather is found at Christmas and the saddle is a western one, this is probably southwest America. The other option, Australia, doesn't seem to fit the location and vocabulary. Although we're told this is a true story, I'm shelving it as fiction because it fits better with pony stories than with riding manuals.
I wasn't entirely keen on the way that the young girl is given a pony while not knowing much about them or being an advanced rider, but her parents have the land and she was bought a schoolmaster pony. We see a few accidents and escapes during the tale to underline that you can never be prepared enough. I like that the mom in the tale says you will get what you focus on, which is usually the case. To me the ponies featured and all that goes with them - coloured lead ropes, saddles, new boots, showing the pony to school pals - seemed to be treated no different to a Barbie doll and accessories. Everyone is different, but I never saw horses this way.
Enjoy, but don't feel you are obliged to have a best friend and to keep comparing fancy purchases. Learning to ride well and be a responsible horse owner is more important if you really do have a horse. The author made this book available free. This is an unbiased review.

I loved this book so much. I liked the diary format it was in. The girl was also around the same age as me, so I understood her point of view. I also love horse's. So, if you like all of those things, then you will love this book. Enjoy your reading! :)
It was pretty good. It didn't seem to have a purpose until the end. I'm glad i read it and in the end it was a good story. I love horses and would recommend to anyone who does.
So I am not the target audience for this book as I am an adult but I am horse crazy too (and I ride as well). I realized this book was very short which is A-OK but I can't help but notice some inconsistencies. For one, the horse shown on the cover of the book is not Sparkle who is a palomino. So shouldn't Sparkle be on the cover as the book is mainly about Abbie and Sparkle? Why is there another horse on the cover?
I was also very surprised to see there were many color photos in this book as I was not expecting this at all. It was a treat to see pictures of the car horses from the story.... But the pictures lead to more confusion as well. Because the cover image shows that Annie is A blonde and then later in the other pictures towards that end of the book she has black hair... If this confused me it is sure to confuse any kids who read it. So which girl is Abbie?
And unless I missed it no setting was named. But apparently they are going swimming in December in a pool. Hmm... Makes me think this must be in the southern hemisphere? And there is a brother who goes surfing too? Plus a tea break at school? It would be good if the author put a country or state \ province in the story. Because these details definitely add up to be a big mystery.
So the story itself is kind of simple. A young girl gets her first pony named Sparkle. And then her neighbors also have or get ponies. And they have some adventures and misadventures. Many things are mentioned to add excitement to the story, as in the ponies running away as they escape the paddocks or someone leaves the gate open...
And that is another thing that confused me: a visitor leaving the gate open so the pony could escape. Why was the visitor going into the paddock?? The paddock should have its own gates. So if this detail confused me it should also confuse kids who actually ride. I presume they mean some main gate around the whole property that was left open? And some horses know how to open gates.
The feeding was done weird too. That is not the best way to do it with horses, what is described in here... That is why they have problems. Perhaps they will get smarter in the next book.
The story kind of ends on a cliffhanger.
I really didn't feel I got to know any of the characters while reading this...
This is a cute story about a nine-year-old horse-mad girl, told in diary form. She gets a horse and has the greatest time ever. Some dates are not mentioned but it makes sense why. Just a little note is that this story ends in a cliffhanger but is great for little girls who love horses. Just make sure to buy the whole series.
And also I read this on the 11th of October which is one month away from the mc's birthday!

About a girl and her life with her horse. This is was horse mad, hence the name of the book
The rating I chose was because of the good qualities of the book, although I disliked the size of the pictures and illustrations. They were a bit too small. In all the book is quite interesting, and I would recommend this to my friends in the UK
My children love these little books. They thoroughly enjoy each and every story, as if they are all unique and individual without any cause for similarity among them. Even though sometimes, they might seem tedious and repetitive to me as a parent, I do enjoy being able to read short-stories to my children that are clean and respective.
Good 👍 but how is it 🔥 at Christmas here it ❄ do you live in Florida or something?
Good 👍but how is it hot at Christmas here it snows do you live in Florida or something?LOL I give this book a 5/5 eating because it is really interesting and I love the pictures.
I chose this rating because I really love horses and when the author wrote about it it was really fascinating. What I disliked about it is the fact that it needs more thrill to eat and me as a citizen of the country is not trying to be mean. (Also the fact that me 10 so) What I liked about it was the fact that it was really fun and sweet, the boy given the horse away, her racing it, and all the other stuff. Though thank u for letting me read
This was a really good book. I read it on my Kindle. This book relates to me because l love horses! I have horses of my own. This is about a girl and her horse, they are always spending time together. I love to spend time with my horse too!
I loved this book and I continue to read the other books in the series but sometimes the words don't make sense and it doesn't give much info about where she lives, as in the girl in the book. I got really confused when it said it was super hot in the winter!
