Marty Samuels had been cursed with plain looks and a curvy body. It didn’t help that she had to work as hard as any man to keep a roof over her head. But Marty was good at protecting what she loved, including the strays she’d taken in and made part of her little family. So why couldn’t she keep her heart safe from the sexy cowboy next door? Ethan Blackhawk had been blessed with good looks and an abundance of charm. It didn’t hurt that his family was rich as sin, either. He’d always been sure about what he wanted out of life—until one bad dog forced him to take a second look at the woman who could change his mind. “You just be careful and don’t let Ethan get to you.” Too late. Marty didn’t dare share with her aunt that Ethan Blackhawk had been getting to her for years now. That she’d fantasized about the gruff cowboy since grade school and her feelings had only deepened over the years. Nope, she wasn’t going to share any of that because she, Marty Samuels, the girl most likely to blend into the wallpaper at any social function, didn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell of ever having any part of that particular fantasy come true.
Joann and Patricia are a writing team of two best friends who love to write (and read) stories about alpha males and smart, sassy, sometimes curvy, women.
A Cowboy of Her Own is a contemporary western, military romance that is worth the read! This short read has great writing and wonderful characters. I loved Marty with her grit, determination, and love for her aunt and animals. She is a fierce and feisty heroine within this story that is a perfect match for Ethan. He, ex-military rancher, is somewhat brisk, determined, and dedicated to his family’s ranch. They make a dynamic couple that complement one another as they journey to find their HEA. I also loved the secondary characters within the story (Ethan’s family, Marty’s aunt, their ranch workers). This story was engaging and entertaining.
A Cowboy of her own by Patricia Mason and Joann Baker was a good book. I wasn’t sure at first as Ethan Blackhawk said some very cruel things to Marty and I was ready to return this book. I’m glad I didn’t because this turned out to be a good book. Patricia Mason and Joann Baker are talented authors and I have enjoyed all their books.
written fine but it moved haphazardly from plot point to plot point with no foundation set up. asshole to in love in 3 seconds flat. and why did marty love him besides him being attractive??
If this story doesn't get to you, well. Growing up can be painful, definitely for these two. Great characters, awesome storyline, and a tumultuous romance.
A wonderful, clean love story that will have you laughing and crying all at the same time. Marty is your typical curvy heroine who, through the dictation of fate, has found herself alone other than her elder aunt, a couple of "retired" ranch hands, and a bunch of strays, with a ranch to run after the untimely death of her parents. She has also had the biggest crush on the hunky cowboy next door since grade school, only she's so plain and curvy, he has never noticed her, until one of her strays decides to stroll over onto the neighbouring ranch to bother their prized bulls. Then he notices her all right, just not for the right reasons. When anger takes hold of his mouth, Ethan doles out some pretty harsh words that not only hit under the belt, but threaten to shatter Marty's heart to pieces. He regrets them as soon as they leave his mouth, but it's too late, the damage is done. Now, as he truly sees her beauty and worth for the first time, he will have to claw his way past the hurt and try to win her over in spades if he ever wants a chance of a lifetime with her love in it. I loved this book! My only disappointment was near the end, and only because I was curious as to whom Wade and Ethan were talking about when Marty overheard them. I have my own conclusions , but would have like the author to confirm them I guess. I would have also have liked the ending to have been a bit more stretched out, but it certainly didn't take away from the rest of the story. Well done.

This is a quick read with a lot of characters to fall in love with but also a plot that keeps you turning the pages til the very end. It's the ultimate rich hot guy falls for plain girl with heart of gold story. This is the first book I've read by this author, and I would definitely try more.
I absolutely love reading Joann and Patricia books. I have read this book so many times and keep going back, I love the story of Marty and Ethan!! It warms my heart every time I read it!! I highly recommend!!
Soul touching story of two people who seem to, no matter the situation, blunder every step of the way. Heartfelt storyline which heartbreaking and humorous dialogue along the way made this one book I couldn't put down.
