Interesting take on "hereditary/natural witches" vs "spells/potions witches" (for want of a better way to phrase it), with clans, prophecies & faeries thrown in for good measure. Though Triss is a bit too "Bella in Twilight" mooning over a boy, for my liking, for too much of the novels. Which leaves the good vs evil, clan vs clan storyline, feeling a bit underdeveloped. The final battle scene is a bit "meh, whatever" in consequence. Maybe because it's only 4 novels long, and YA fiction rules seem to dictate you can't have particularly long novels in this genre? (Or does it depend on what reading age they're aiming at?) Whereas I still enjoy reading Cate Tiernan's Sweep/Wicca series years later, I don't know that I'd revisit this any time soon, or pick up any sequels....
Wow! I’ve just finished reading (The Complete Set) Witch Avenue Series. I admit there were times, I had to put the book down for a while before returning. I was determined to complete this series and am pleased that I did. I am amazed at Karice Bolton’s ability to create a world with witches, realistic characters, spine-chilling conflict and a beautiful romance. I’ve enjoyed many of Karice Bolton series. They are great reads.
Storyline was okay. The characters were not really interesting. The main character was so hormonal. It became boring. The ending was quick. It left me wondering why I bothered to read this.
Don't get me wrong I really did enjoy this series. It had a different story plot and was fairly engaging. There were some drawbacks for me that kept me from fully immersing into the story. Triss is a somewhat like able character when she isn't being all " I like him, but I can't let myself be into him" and " Ok I've allowed myself to like him, but can I trust him" blah blah blah. It happens so often in the first couple of books that it almost wants to make you gag. Plus, the ending battle was very meh. You have this build up and then it's like "Really, that was it?!?" It would have been nice to see where the story could have went in the future , etc. I would actually do about 3.5 to 3.75 stars for the series.
I LOVED this series!!!! I seriously could not put it down - it lured me in and kept me til the very end!! One of my fav series!!! LOVED Triss and Logan :)
