Our lives are filled with in-between times, those times when we are not quite where we would like to be (or where we thought we'd be). Dreams are on hold, prayers seem unanswered, and life can feel hard. And just when we think we have it all together, life happens again! During these times it can be difficult to see God in our situations and trust him with the future.
With empathy and wit, Debbie Alsdorf uses the book of Philippians to encourage women to lean on God, to live one day at a time, to rejoice and not to worry, and to give thanks to God in all circumstances of life. The confidence and peace readers will gain from the perspective presented in this loving book will help them live fully in the moment, in every season of life.
Author and international speaker Debbie Alsdorf's mission is to help women live a better story by leading them to the heart of God's love and the truth of his Word. She has spent the majority of her adult life involved in women's ministries as well as being a biblical lay counselor and Christian life coach. In 2005, she brought together a team and founded Design4Living Ministries to challenge women to experience spiritual transformation. Debbie's first Bible study, Steadfast Love, was published in 2000, followed by ten other books and three curriculums. In addition, she has been a featured writer for Calvary Chapel, In Touch, and Focus on the Family. Debbie and her husband, Ray, have raised a blended family of four adult children. Today Debbie's favorite role is being a grandma to ten little ones. You can also connect with Debbie on Instagram and Facebook.
This was good. It just wasn't for me at this moment in my life. However, because of its Scriptural foundation -- Philippians -- I have committed to reading the book of Philippians every day (a minimum of once a day and perhaps more) during this month (January 2023).
I have often said that the only thing that we have control of is our attitude. I got this from a quote from Victor Frank. Your book has been such a blessing, everytime I go back and read something you have written, I feel blessed again. Your understanding of the versus helps me to know and appreciate what Paul was saying. Thank you so much, and God Bless you as you continue to share your knowledge and understanding. I have recommended your book to all my friends and family. Carol Fazio
Encouraging and enlightening words. She gives examples of how to cope with the meantime. That is the time between when you realize a problem exit and the end or solution
Read this as part of a church group and found it to be pretty good. Provides some really great varying perspectives and insights. Author provides appendix with quick verse references. Although, I'm good on hearing the word "meantime" for the foreseeable future.
Initially, I didn’t think this book would apply to me, but it was our book of the month for book club so I read it. It was so good and turns out I needed it so much more than I thought. Very practical, easy to follow, and insightful!
"...may I press on--through tears, through hard spots, and someday reach the goal of being with you and hearing you say, "Well done". For this, I pray. Amen."
"Life is hard, so choose wisely, pray frequently, and trust the bigger picture, planned by a big GOD.
I picked up this book when I was going through some heavy stuff and my faith was cowering behind my fears. One of the best devotionals I have ever read. I couldn't wait each morning to see what the next chapter had in store for me. I went in with a hidden faith, and walked stronger than I've ever been, choosing to let go and let God.
This devotional is for those who are currently going through a "meantime" phase, no matter how heavy, and is having a hard time trusting that God has your back, that he will see you through to the end.
Debbie Alsdrof will sit with you in Phillipians, a powerful four-chapter letter Paul wrote while in jail and being persecuted. If he could be happily optimistic in his perpetuated "meantime", why can't you?
"Those who do not have a God to hope in worry endlessly about what people think of them. They work hard for appearances sake. But you know me, and you know I am working in all things, and you know I provide what you need. Therefore, do not be anxious about anything."
This is a lovely, well-written study of the book of Philippians. I'm not sure why it's aimed so strongly at women when the lessons are applicable to anyone. Mature Christians will have heard most of this before, but it's a good refresher and a great study for new believers. In addition to the personal devotions, there are lesson plans at the back for small group study.
I have read and read again (and again). Each time I am challenged and encouraged as I continue to apply Paul's instruction to the Philippians to my 24/7 life. Debbie Alsdorf is compassionate, but straightforward, in her 'encouragement' to get beyond myself (ouch!).
I love this book really applied to my life and where I am right now!! I would read this book again!! Bottom line you only get peace from Trusting in God..
