Polymer clay: All the basic and advanced techniques you need to create with polymer clay

Rate this book
Polymer clay is a versatile, synthetic modeling material. It is made of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) particles and pigments which are bound together by a plasticizer. It is available in a wide variety of colors, which can be mixed together to create more beautiful shades. Polymer clay is non toxic, and can be baked and hardened in a home oven. The possibilities of creating with polymer clay are practically endless! This book will guide you through the very basic stages of working with polymer clay, up to the more advanced methods and techniques. Each technique will be demonstrated with a step by step unique project. You will learn how to create designed clay sheets, a "skinner" blend, and how to make polymer clay a technique called "Millefiori". "Millefiori" means, one thousand flowers", this technique is used in Venetian glass work, and can be applied to polymer clay. It is a magical process of creating a two dimensional image in polymer clay, this image is kept throughout the cane, even after reducing it. When slicing the cane, each slice will still have the same image. In this book you will learn how to use your cane slices and designed clay sheets to make beautiful beaded jewelry, cover glass objects, and create a variety of home decorations.

Great book for beginners

All the instructions are great with both photos and a description. She takes you through a great number of canes. I've been caning around 2 or 3 months and knew I'd say around 3/4 of the techniques. Still it was good to learn those. They will come in handy. If I was a complete novice then its get 5 stars I think

Good basic book

This is a good basic book that covers a variety of techniques to. Take off from. If you are looking for something in depth, this is probably not the book for you. If you just need a reminder of the techniques, it is perfect.

So useful and clear!!

This book is brilliant. The instructions are so detailed and clear. Some of them I’m not entirely sure about but I suspect it’ll be easier when I’ve got the clay in front of me. I can’t wait to get started!!! Thank you for this amazing, helpful book!!!

The first 15 pages are instructions for different types of cane and then the rest of the book are lots of specific projects with photos for directions. Helpful if that's what you want to learn those particular things (buttons, beads, a pendant, etc) but not super generalizable.

Good technique training!

Many of the techniques are so useful to any polymer clay artist. Some of the reviews mention the flower canes, however I am of the mind that I want as many techniques in my repertoire as possible. Let your hands take you , sometimes the form is in the clay. Don't let the canes in the book be the end, they are just the start of a great journey.
