This is the fourth book in the Manny Williams Series. Lansing Detective, Manny Williams, took the plunge. He accepted the FBI’s offer to join the elite Behavioral Analysis Unit, much to the delight of the unit’s supervisor, Josh Corner. Two months later, he was joined by his old partner, Sophie Lee, and Lansing’s top CSI, Alex Downs. With his nemesis, serial killer Fredrick Argyle, six feet under and Manny’s love life making a comeback, it seems that life was finally back on the high road…until his first assignment. A vicious killer is running amuck in El Yunque, Puerto Rico’s lush rainforest, and taking no prisoners, only body parts. Manny and the crew are called in, but they’re too late. One of their own has fallen victim to the maniac’s rampage…and the killer isn’t finished. Not by a long shot. Rick Murcer is a New York Times Best Seller and a USA Today Top Ten Selling author.
Rick Murcer lives in Michigan and like many in that part of the country lost his job in 2008 due to a decline in the economy. An experienced executive, he sent out over 600 resumes without success. With unemployment benefits waning and savings nearly depleted he did the only logical thing he could think of...decide to become a writer.
Fortunately for Rick, he defied all conventional wisdom about self-publishing and literally became an overnight sensation. His first three books Caribbean Moon, Deceitful Moon, and Emerald Moon sold more than 300,000 copies between April and October 2011. He had two books in Amazon's top ten for many weeks and became both a New York Times and USA Today best-selling author.
Rick graduated from Michigan State University and is fairly new to the game of writing. Proving his knack for storytelling, the first piece he had ever written, Herb's Home Run, was published by The Writer's Journal in 2002. Rick attributes his success to hard work and God's blessing and believes that you can achieve any goal you wish if you just set your mind to it.
Rick has been married longer than his wife likes to admit, and they have two grown children, three grandkids, and a blind, black Lab named Max, who serves as Rick's "writing" dog. Each morning Max pushes Rick to his writing room so that the dog can snore on his rug while Rick ponds away on the keys. And pounds away he does. Rick is one of those amazing writers that are so energized by the stories in their heads the words just flow onto the page. He has many works in progress so expect more titles from him in the near future.
Well Manny Williams has gone and done it. He has become a proud Agent with the FBI. He is proud and wondering what his wife Louise would have said. What would his father have said? Later, both forensic specialist Alex and his old partner Sophie Lee follow him to the bureau.
After a harrowing plane accident which both FBI Agents Chloe Franson and Josh Corner survive, Manny and his team get an urgent call from Puerto Rico. Someone is hacking to death tourists in the El Yunque rain forest near San Juan. From the beginning of the novel, the reader knows who is doing the killings and why.
When the agents learn that one of the victims was Amanda Fogerty, daughter of very rich drug lord Randall Fogerty, they know that they have trouble on their hands. He is filled with revenge and goes on a rampage after seeing his daughter’s body. Now the agents and the San Juan Police Department have not only a murderer on their hands, but a crazed and powerful enemy – Amanda’s father.
When Josh’s half-brother and park ranger is murdered it threatens to drive Josh over the edge. He pulls it together and they continue their search for the killer. Several more people die and the chase is on. Following clues and hunches, the team draws closer.
The ending of this book is both surprising and explosive.
This is a well written and plotted novel. It begins with suspense and the suspense increases throughout the book. The writing is crisp and there are no wasted words or scenes. This is a very good book. You must read the series in order to fully understand the some of the history and goings-on in this book.
Rick Murcer's Manny Williams' books are one of my favorite series. He always delivers great thrillers. He has developed the characters so well that I feel like I know them as well as my neighbors. Caribbean Rain brings all of the gang back with another gory serial killer to track down. They are called to the Caribbean because of Manny's extra special talent for profiling. This book includes everything that the other Manny Williams books have included, but I felt like the main plot was sidetracked a bit. Having the drug lord and his daughter seemed to be too much of a distraction for me. Other than that, I loved the banter of the FBI crew, the romance between Manny and Chloe and my favorite is the newest member, CSI Dean Mikus-I couldn't get enough of him; he is a great addition to the original cast of characters. As others have already stated here, I was not wild about the ending, but this is another great Manny Williams thriller that was hard to put down. I am anxious to get to the next one!
'Caribbean Rain' is fast paced, full of surprises, lots of action, deceit and betrayal and an over-all great read. Except the cliffhanger. Now I have to hurry this review to get reading the next book. The storyline was well written. Full of great characters. I love that Manny has overcome his demons and took a chance on love with Chloe. I still think Sophie is my favorite. She's a smart-ass, witty, full of life and flirty character who also happens to be a kick-ass agent. Awesome series. A must read. Now, on to the next book.
In general, this series is pretty enjoyable. However it has now officially exceeded the constraints of credibility. Multiple criminals related to multiple law enforcement personnel just to make the storyline interesting borders on laziness by the author. Here's hoping the next book is better or I'll likely be moving on to something else.
I very much like the series, and there's no doubt they keep you on the edge and raise your heartbeat, but again, as in the previous book, the justification of crime motives are not credible to me. And this is the only thing that keeps me from giving more stars and better review. Otherwise, I love the characters and I sure love the open ending.
Yeah, a crime novel in the Caribbean. Good caracters, plenty of situations. But also many investigation trails and to many criminal paths leeding to confusion as all this comes together.
Well,its ok.
Guess the writer should have revisited his story before confusing the reader with too many coïncidences.
The newly minted FBI agents from Lansing are on a roll and find a gruesome scene in a story line that never holds still. Rick Murcer is a bit over the top with the bloodletting but has a fascinating skillset of characters and plot. Take it to the beach!
Couldn't put these books down until I completed the whole series. This, like the others was a pager turner, with the same suspense until the end. I am now counting the days until the next one!
Rick Murcer does not disappoint. Love reading about Manny, Sophie, Chloe, josh and Alex. A new team member is introduced and he is a great addition. Don't know what to think about the ending though.
not bad, an enjoyable series. its like hanging out with good friends. the story lines arent always believable but the twists keep you turning the pages.
