Great summaries of each individual mineral, vitamin & antioxidant covered in this text! A breakdown of everything, scientific information transferred into laymen's terms...

Dr. Colgan has been (to me) on the cutting edge in nutritional science for decades, and I was exposed to his text 'Optimum Sports Nutrition' back in 1993. That's when everything started and I've been following him since.

'Sports Nutrition Guide' was released in 2002 via Apple Publishing & I feel that it's another text of his that offers the continual no-nonsense approach to the current age of ours that often drowns in disinformation. These rumors about individual nutrients he lets them not to fester into facts by citing actual peer-reviewed journal references, offering not just heresay or matters of opinions...but actual FACTS!

And since this was written a little under 25 years ago, you may wonder if the information is quite outdated or obsolete. I'm telling you, it's not. The information offered here is accurate still, though many fads in supplements have came & gone...there a lot less talk nowadays about say creatine, but the information on it is as good as gold. Just the lack of scientific information over the long-term of that nutrient is (maybe) still an issue...

Colgan intertwines science & humor interchangedly, again making this text worthy of a read. Stick with him on the information of these key nutrients, as he dispels any controversy surrounding any of them!

And finally, you can read this through like I did or use it as a reference or both! For those of you who DO NOT like to read, this is for you because everything related to sports nutrition is here broken down into small chapters on everything that's covered!

Despite being an old book (2002), it offers a thorough approach to sports nutrition. While highly informative some content is already outdated due to the fast-evolving nature of nutritional research. It's a valuable resource for deepening one’s understanding of sports nutrition, albeit with a dense presentation.
