UX/UI Bibliography

Rate this book
User experience is a misunderstood practice, largely undefined by the modern world. Is it usability? Design? Library Science? Cognitive Psychology? Somehow, it's all of the above. User Experience humanizes usability, looking past the efficiency of tasks by examining feelings, emotions, motivations and values. Only through examining the human aspects of product interactions can you design delightful experiences, and delightful experiences are the root of any successful product (web or otherwise.) But it's not enough to understand human thought processes, less you think any psychologist could moonlight as a UX practitioner. Among other skills, you must also know User Interface design (UI); and while you might not be a PhotoShop wrangler, you still need to know how perception can change based upon the grouping, labeling, alignment and placement of elements. You must use visual organization so that everything is obvious.

The facets of UX/UI don't end with design and psychology either, since you must also take on research, information organization, data analysis and business objectives. This bibliography in Safari Books Online is your user experience/user interface roadmap. We have curated the most prolific books on the subject and organized them chronologically, based upon how most UX projects unfold. You will start by learning the fundamentals of user experience, which is required to do any UX work. You will then learn about gathering business objectives, researching the user, understanding the user, organizing information, designing interfaces and interactions, using common reusable UX patterns, building prototypes, developing a content strategy, optimizing for mobile and search, performing usability tests, analyzing data and finally what it's like to work in the UX field.
