Avery Walker has lived a life of being bullied, abused, and taken advantage of by people. Because of how early it started, and with her family being the worst offenders, she stopped pushing back or expecting anything else from life. But when a student slaps her in class and the school tries to sweep the incident and her feelings under the rug, Avery hits the breaking point. What a perfect time to play the lottery, right? All of Avery’s bad luck she’s suffered with her whole life gives her one moment of good luck and she actually wins the largest jackpot on record… But what now? Ryder James is a vampire who is trying to make changes in his life when he meets Avery who helps him see the world in a different way. Griffin Peterson is an Alpha werewolf that has been so focused on his pack that he forgot he needs things as a man until Avery stepped into his life. And Lorenzo Ganan is a warlock suffering because of the tragedies that have struck his family and Avery makes him feel as if he might be able to open his heart again. But can any of these men be the right one for a woman who has been so beaten down by life?
Erin is a born Chicagoan who decided to state hop a bit, given she works from home. She currently resides in Georgia with her pup, Lord Vader Flynn. With an eclectic and addictive personality, there isn’t much that doesn’t interest her or she won’t pour herself into if it catches her fancy. She has always been interested in the darker aspects of life and mythologies—especially vampires, shifters, the occult, and anything paranormal.
To date, she has published more paranormal books than she can keep up with the characters for, in different genres with dedicated readers who await each release to her numerous series under any of the three Flynn names she writes.
62% DNF. Plotless story with a doormat main character whose crown jewel personality trait is not being an asshole despite being rich.
The whole thing felt like a platform for the author to rant about bullying and fat shaming and the pharmaceutical industry. Which…yeah, but also not why I picked up this book. Meanwhile, nothing happens, the men are boring, and the whole story is told rather than shown.
No world building or context for the paranormal elements of the story. No sense of direction or urgency. Just a freshly hewn billionaire being not a jerk, and the men who like her enough to have sex.
It started off okay and then got pretty boring. Also suspected m/m, m/f/m, m/f/m/m incoming. But didn't care enough to get there. 1. There was some repetitive parts based on who the narrator was. 2. The dumbness and prejudices of the other characters, 3. Strangers highly involved in the mfc's life. 4. Griffin being a bully as far as I'm concerned as he never takes no for an answer. 5. Conflicting information regarding the female lead.
I really tried finishing it, but then started skimming and even that wasn't helpful.
I think an editor would be a great help here. Maybe it would end up as one book instead of a trilogy. Maybe you all will enjoy it more than I did.
The immediate turn off of the FMC was wild. First she was a doormat and then suddenly she was arguing with high powered realators? Bffr. And then every single person in this woman’s life including co workers, her “lazy” doctor and all the other specialists were the problem? Please. This woman is unbearable and her winning the lottery didn’t make her anymore readable. Usually I’ll give a first time read from a new author till 33% of the way through the book…had to dump this one at 25%.
DNF @ 44% This felt almost like it was written for Wattpad.
• World-building felt very superficial and lacking: there was literally no point to the characters being paranormal - you almost never think about it until they mention or comments on what one another is. It's almost just there for the "sexiness" of it all. It might as well have been better just being in a normal world setting.
• Writing repeatedly the same thing the exact same way in regards to ie. her having lost weight and being fat-shamed, got pretty tiresome.
• Many phrases were so simply written it almost felt weird and awkward to read. Sometimes it was hard to follow what just happened due to the wording and phrases. Especially the longer you get into the book, the more it felt like something was missing.
• Drama felt forced at times
It's a sweet concept for a story, and I really enjoyed the beginning, but the writing and the superficial/lacking plot just made it too hard for me to get further into the story. I might pick it up again if it gets a bigger revision at some point. 🤔
DNF 7% "Yes, I was a coffee addict. Most vampires were, caffeine for sure. Since we didn’t produce our own blood we were lacking in certain hormones and levels of… Science stuff? I didn’t understand it all, but I needed caffeine to function. That was the basic gist."
The basic gist of this book is that the author didn't bother to do any research in her development, just chalked it up to 'science stuff' and left it at that.
The writing is also pretty bad. The idea is good, and there's not a ton of typos but it needs a lot of editing. Bummer because I liked the idea of it. I may hang on to this one and trudged along bit by bit to see if the romance of it makes up for the rest, but not right now. Right now I need quality.
Less than 10% of the way into this book and I just can’t. I’ve got more than a dozen reasons, many revolving around the author’s clear lack of research, but suffice it to say that I don’t foresee myself reading anything from this author again. Though her bio boldly states that she has many avid readers, so I must be in the minority.
After all the hype around this book, i was really excited to read it. However, although the premis was intriguing, the plot and language structure were poorly constructed so much so, sentences were choppy and did not flow, making the dialogue between the characters come across as unnatural and hard to understand what was being said and by who. There was not much of a storyline. The characters really had no substance. You would think that out of the trio (A 100 year old vampire, an alpha werewolf, and a Warlock), at least one of them would have had their act together, but nope, 3 very average men who would have been better off just human and relatable. The paranormal element added nothing. Avery's character development was lacking, her victimhood seeped out her pores throughout without any real deep or dark background or insight to allow the reader to empathise with her. Yeah, this just failed to grab me and pull me in.
So the main character seems to get more confident real quick and speaks her opinion real quick. The book progressed well until the end and then with one visit from her family she is right back to feeling shitty. The worst part is that she has three men that are fast, deadly and magical and they let her be yelled at and hit right in front of them and do nothing. The book just didn't flow well and seemed choppy. "I am mad at you, no I wanna do you, no I need space" over and over. It was almost like chapters were there as fillers instead of a story. I won't be reading the other two cause it's just blah.
The premise of the story sounded very promising and interesting. The idea of a bullied woman winning the lottery and kind of reinventing herself sounded interesting and fun. Throw in the paranormal elements, and I was very excited to read this. However, the writing style is stilted and awkward, and, in some places, very hard to understand what the author was trying to say. I found myself bored and frustrated. I wanted to like this so much, but the writing style needed a good story development editor and line by line editor. Someone who could point out that things were not flowing well.
It’s a no for me. I really tried. I even started skimming, but then I got to the part where griffin was talking abt being bi-curious…and it was just a heavy no for me. I really, truly hate when authors write books and don’t let the customers who are consuming said books that there will be a deviation from the norm! STOP WRITING BOOKS CALLING THEM RH AND THEN HAVING MEN FKN MEN!!! That is not rh, it’s poly and it’s gross. Not everyone wants to read that trash! I wish I could give it zero stars!
It’s a DNF for me. I do not have any clue where the author was going with this but when I wasn’t engaged by a third of the way in, I knew I couldn’t keep reading. I have discovered, I only “like” her Artemis series. So this one is added to my did not, could not, would not finish pile.
TROPES / TRIGGERS / TAGS: - Plus sized FMC - Troubled / toxic family - Bullying - Medical content - Older harem / FMC - Fat shaming - Infertility - Death (drunk driver, doesn't happen during the story, but is referenced) - Younger MC / older FMC - Marijuana use
I'm enjoying the story and the plot itself. The book could use some heavy editing, however. There are extra words where words shouldn't be, sentences that don't quite make sense or flow properly, the occasional word or even name spelled wrong, etc. If the author ever gets a chance, she should really have someone do a bit of an overhaul on it. I rate it about 3.5 stars for the reason, but I'm rounding up because I AM enjoying the story.
I like that Avery begins to work on herself, both mentally and physically, and that she's learned to grow a bit of a backbone. I'm sure some would believe she's a bit immature for how often she gets mad at the guys, and while it may be a bit true, I also get it when she does. She's also not used to relationships or people actually caring about her. It's a foreign concept to her, so she doesn't know how to handle it all. It's something that I'm sure she'll work on, especially when Ryder is there to play mediator.
Something small that I'm mildly confused about is involving Lorenzo. He said he's never been with a woman intimately before (which does make me assume he's been with a man, despite it being illegal for witches and warlocks), and says the woman he was with before had never given him "head" before (or, at least like Avery did?). Yet he says she would withhold sex from him to get what she wanted. I know that could mean things not just including actual 'intimacy,' but if they didn't do either of those things, I'm curious how she held it over him. Just something that crossed my mind!
This story was not girl meets boy. The main female character, Avery, is a school teacher for privileged brats who have always gotten their way because their parents have money. The high school students are bullies to the teachers. The administration are bullies to their employees. When called in when a student actually assaults Avery by slapping her in the face, the sheriff's department bullies the accuser because they are paid by the rich to look the other way when their kids get in trouble. Avery's older sister, Grace and younger brother as well as her parents have used Avery as their punching bag to ridicule, torment and bully. She gets the last laugh when she wins a two billion dollar Powerball lottery. She meets people who are in her corner before they know she is super rich. People who see her as a kind, caring and a smart person. Avery has hired one of the best law firms in Illinois and has received excellent advice on how to set up charities, investments and a good future. But the past has found her and her sister and brother are doing what they have always done. But not this time. She isn't putting up with their bullying tactics. She's pushing back. Next Avery 2.
The beginning really drew me in and got me excited but that quickly fizzled out.
Our FMC is the definition of a doormat. Not in the sweet as pie type way either, it’s in the annoyingly weak jump off a cliff way.
I’m all for body positivity and plus sized FML but I don’t want to read about the FML losing a bunch of weight and having “Flabby” tits and excessive loose skin. I know what the author was attempting to do by writing this in the story, but that ain’t it babe.
Also the MC’s suck. They are beyond boring and flat characters. There’s a lot of telling without showing.
The whole story is basically summed up as: an overweight woman who no one cares about and she wins a ton of money and doesn’t let it go to her head and become an asshole who then meets some guys who don’t mind sleeping with a saggy lonely woman. Oh, and there’s some supernatural magic in there somewhere. The end.
I will read anything by this author. She never disappoints. How she had time to do this trilogy amongst the clamor of her other ongoing series and adoring fans I will never know. This series so far ( I am actually on the last one but do to some glitches with my Kindle I could not post review) has a ton of issues. Not only the FMC ( the only human) but also the MMCs. It's maddening at times. Please remember this is only MY opinion. I have my own issues I have and struggle with so I say this truly from a place of love if you have severe depression , mind the warnings. There are instances of what seem total hopelessness and it hurts. In our current times and world this can exacerbate existing issues. I had to walk away a few times. I wanted to reach out to one of my favorite authors and tell her "I'm here and how can I help?" Even magic and money cannot cure all and sometimes makes it worse. I know that in the end though there will be a reckoning and a HEA.
I have liked other series from this author and other FMCs, but I found Avery very hard to like. I am extremely sympathetic to her personal issues, however the way she came across as so self absorbed and whiny and victim mode with the guys was a total turn-off. Other than being hot, I couldn’t see why 3 hot guys would become obsessed with her. There also wasn’t much of a storyline beyond hooking up and then the steam wasn’t very steamy but kind of vague and rushed. I guess the plot could also be Avery not knowing what to do with her life but she spent very little time in self reflection. The beginning is much better than the end since you keep waiting for it to go somewhere, but ultimately not as satisfying as I hoped it would be. Entertaining enough to read but not to want to read the rest of the series.
This trilogy is a feel good quick read that may leave you in tears for the trauma and tears for all the good that’s comes to our main character Avery. This is a why choose dynamic, that allows our girl to be with who she wants without breaking any hearts.
Don’t get me wrong Avery has a ton of trauma that surrounds her family and the resulting lack of self confidence only leads to more heartbreak for her. Until her luck changes … changing everything and putting her on a new path that leads to so much more then she would have ever wanted for herself. The past however catches up to her which was exactly what she was afraid of.
Erin is one of my forever auto buy authors, I have yet to not love everyone of her books in all of her series’.
Erin’s novel are always amazing and suck you in. While this one steers away from her other story style it was as amazing if not more so. I started reading it as I put the kids to bed and then couldn’t put it down and read until almost 5am knowing I would need to be up in an hour because it is just that good. Now going to go start the next one knowing I’m running on no sleep today but it is with out a doubt worth it. She and Vader, her bestest boy(dog), deserve all the praise for her writing and the stories she weaves and I love that you can see her love for him in her books in small hints throughout. Keep up the AMAZING job.
Avery is my hero! She is so freaking strong with a beautiful spirit. She's determined to be nice, despite her experiences with the people she has had in her life up until she wins. As a former sort of an overweight doormat (albeit for different reasons) , I understand the struggles she's going through. My situation was not nearly as awful; I have an awesome family. The author realistically wrote about those struggles without making Avery seem like a weak, whiny woman. I absolutely love that.
PS: I kinda wish I had my own harem, but I'm also happy with my husband and son. I wouldn't give them up for anything.

Avery wins the lotto in every way that counts! Smexy stuff!
Anything written by Erin is awesome. Empowered women Will always be my vibe and this is truly one of the only authors that nail it. I’ve read and reread almost all of her series. Avery is finding her way, fierce but also goes forth with trepidation due to her narcissistic family. Everyone treats her terribly but she is clever. She has three awesome and other worldly protectors that can meet her passion! Yep there’s-a lot of lovin. Can’t wait to finish the two books that are already published in this trilogy to see how Avery blossoms.
⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆ 3/5 Avery (Tantalizing Trilogies Series by Erin R. Flynn)
Avery was a really enjoyable read! I absolutely loved Avery as the FMC - she’s strong, smart, and easy to root for. Erin R. Flynn did a great job pulling me into the world and keeping the story flowing. While I’m usually more of a big-harem girl and the three MMCs weren’t exactly my personal taste, that’s totally just a me thing. The chemistry was still fun to read, and I appreciated how well their connections were written. Overall, it’s a solid, well-written story that readers who enjoy smaller harems and resilient heroines who’ve been through a lot will definitely appreciate!
I enjoyed this one. Multiple povs. The emotions felt real, and relatable. I liked how the main reason the character grows is because she won the lotto but it wasn’t the main jist of the book. I love how each character and side character has an apt description, so you know why they act the way they do. I also know that her sister won’t get away with that treacherous act, her Lorenzo is a genius with tech. I’m sure she’s got video of that entire physical conversation she had as well as her sister trying to pull a fast one. So glad the next books are out.
I really enjoyed this particular story because the good guy got a "win' straight away and that was pretty different. I kept reading it because she's a complex, emotional, struggling woman who wants to overconfident and take back her life and that appeals to me on a personal level. I felt, at times, like the writing was confusing and unclear. I didn't know who was speaking or what was being implied. It made for a clunky read periodically, but not so bad that I gave up. I cannot wait to read the next book! In fact...I think I'll start it now!
Read on KU. I'm a massive fan of Erin R Flynn and the amazing series she does so of course I wanted to read this. It didn't disappoint either! I like the supernatural in the everyday that started right from the beginning. I love how the relationships are building and the miscommunication that happens in such a relatable way. I think the FMC is portrayed in a very realistic manner for what she's been through. I love the humour and can't wait to read more!
A rollicking good story for those times when you just need to escape the real world
When you're feeling down and want to escape the real world, pick up one of Erin R Flynn's books. In her usual style, it's a mixture of steam and fantasy to help escape the real world.
Her protagonist finds some luck and is finally deciding to find out what it's like when you put yourself first.
