(From the back cover) A Mack's Calling Card is his flash, his dress, his spiel, his hog, and all of these ploys of the game, Junius had it together. Under a smooth coat of grace and charm lay the most dangerous product spawned of the ghetto, as Junius brutally earned the title Godfather of the Pimps! And then he meets Demon, a teenage youngblood, who, along with his vicious dog Wolf, is hellbent to make successful hustling a black fact. Junius has his stable of "hos" and Demon has his corps of ghetto hoodlums who will do anything for him. But Demon gets in over his head, and starts dealing in heroin, the tragic-magic that lulls the senses, brings in the bread, and gets him shot. When Junius stalks revenge, he discovers and incredible secret! Murder, tragic-magic, and a rebellious stable of "hos" plague the flashiest Mack on the streets!
This is the rarest of Black authors to find. His books are long out of print and people are trying to sell his books at outrageous prices. This book should be regarded as a Black Treasure as it portrays life at it's most visceral.
A moldering find from a now-closed used book store in Los Angeles. I don't know much about this author. Less popular and prolific than his contemporaries Donald Goines and Chester Himes, all black crime fiction novelists, but equally as talented. This book reads like a true voice of the ghetto, not some approximation. At times as entertaining as Jim Thompson. And then of course there's the lovely cover.
