Artisan Filigree: Wire-Wrapping Jewelry Techniques and Projects

Rate this book
Enjoy a collection of 20+ beautiful wire projects! Inspired by the ironwork so prevalent in her native Tucson, Jodi Bombardier fashions her signature heavygauge wire frames into sinuous shapes, cold-joining them with fine wire to form open, lacy filigree patterns.   • Learn Jodi's techniques, including the correct ways to use tools, hold wire, and create shaped wire frames consistently and precisely.   • Create airy pieces that are still strong and stable enough to withstand daily wear.   • Build confidence in your wirework skills as projects increase in complexity. In addition to providing project instructions, Jodi demonstrates how her scrolled designs can be manipulated, joined, or rearranged to create endless variations limited only by the imagination.

This book starts with a brief introduction to tools and techniques but the accompanying photos are too small. The projects have nice, large photos of the finished piece and some have smaller detail photos, too. Each project is clearly described with concise text and well-drawn diagrams. The projects aren't quite my style but I haven't done any wire wrapping yet and this is one of the better books I've read on the subject. Lots of good hints here. Some downsides are that there is not a lot of information on finishing and I always worry about durability. What should be done to make the wire stronger so these beautiful coils don't pull apart? The author mentions a rotary tumbler to polish the finished pieces but how do beads fare in a tumbler?

Underwhelmed. I think for such detailed work more photos and less words would have been helpful.

I admit, I was largely hoping this would have tips for tucking wires in such detailed work so they don't get caught, and the only reference I found to catching was to be careful when polishing so your ends don't get caught. But that doesn't help skin or fabric.

Beautiful Projects but Needs Better Instructing

This book has several beautiful projects but they are difficult to complete. The written instructions are as clear as they could be, but without more photos or line drawings, making one of these projectsfor yourself is a challenge.

I'm glad I previewed this book through Kindle Unlimited rather than buying it out right. The projects are unique fit the most part but are far from beginner projects. I've been working with wire for over two years and consider myself having art least intermediate skill. This book challenged and frustrated me. It would have benefited greatly from a test maker who could point out where the instructions need help.

Excellent Manual

This book has instructions that clearly teach you the concept of Filigree. The written instructions are laid out so they are easily followed. The illustrations are equally clear and concise. I have completed several projects and will now build on what I have learned. Terrific book!
