Still laughing at this series, in a good way!! There are moments here that had me laughing so hard at these characters. Like I said about volume one, don't go into this series too seriously. I mean the author even made a joke about having a Tengu host club. How great is that?!
This does have some crude jokes and some very rapey vibe in some scenes so please keep that in mind. I honestly don't see why they put a teen rating on this series. Anywho, I'm enjoying this and can't wait to see what happens next!

This series has a lot of polarity. It goes from cutesy comedy to dark comedy to straight up dark in very little time.

The past couple of weeks, I have felt like pure crap.
First of all, I was sick the last two and a half weeks of February and the very last week of February I took 3 exams while I was sick. The last exam was tedious because it took me over 7 hours to complete that exam. I went in at 10:30 am on the 27th of Friday to take it and I didn't get finished until 6 pm at night. And no, I didn't get a lunch break.
So imagine this. I spent the past week taking 2 other exams and on Friday I'm taking this chemistry exam and the whole time I have at least 3 boxes of tissue and a trash can next to me because I'm sneezing and blowing my nose majority of the time. It wasn't just me. The fastest test takers in the class took at least over 3 hours minimum to finish it. So I'm freaking out because when I'm sick, I take super long because I have a hard time focusing and I need to reread the question at least 5 times before I actually remember what it's asking. Throughout the test, I pretty much feel like this.
Second, once I'm finished I head home and I'm ready to stuff my face with food, since I'm STARVING, and pass out on my bed. But, as luck would have it, my mother, a Star Trek fan, informs me of the dreaded news that one of my favorite actors Leonard Nimoy passed away that morning. So I drop my backpack on the floor and I'm an emotional wreck. First, I'm in denial. So to confirm it, I look it up and then I'm mortified by the truth.
FYI, I cried myself to sleep that night.
To make it worse, my mother and I were having a Star Trek marathon and I was sobbing the whole time. Harsh realization hit me when I realized that a legend has died and no one cares except for the devoted fans. Everyone else at the time was too busy arguing over what color a fucking stupid dress was!
Seriously? That was stupid trending thing that I've ever seen. IT. WAS. EVERYWHERE. It pissed me off that people not only bugged me about it but also constantly told me to 'get over' Leonard Nimoy's death.
Excuse me? The hell did you just say?
NO! I WON'T!!! The character he played was a big part of my life and the actor was too! He lived by his words and he inspired me to get into science for a career. So NO! I WON'T GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know what? Tell me that and go fuck yourself.
So how does this story tie in to this reviews. Well, that's pretty much my feelings towards this manga. Volumes 2 & 3 in particular. The journey during most of the series was such a drag that it felt like a sick me taking a 9 hour exam. Then once you are done through the painful parts the manga slaps you with humor that is both disgusting and insulting.
There are some scenes that angered me so much that I wanted to yell and throw a fit because it was telling me that I should not raise my voice and 'get over' what I'm feeling. It was a slap to my face.
Some things that are very offensive are passed as a joke. For example, there is this one scene in the manga that has Kyo's subjects looking at his 'scrapbooks' and are very amused by it. Curious, Misao wants to know what they are looking at so she takes a glance at it. Turns out that they're pictures of her getting undressed and getting out of the shower in a towel. So Kyo basically had a porn scrapbook of her.
Can't you see how romantic this is?
Ugh, I'm going to throw up.
Guys, you can get in serious trouble for that shit. Misao, horrified, takes the books away and tries to hide them and the whole scene is meant to be comic relief.
People, that is NOT funny. That is insulting, disgusting, and terrifying. I'm just angry that this is considered as 'romantic'. IT ISN'T!
I'm done. I'm not finishing the series. Nor am I going to review the rest of the volumes I read. I can't. It's just too painful. And if I do I'll end up breaking things and creating chaos.

Yikes, serious sexual assault content warnings on this one. Not a big fan of "the heroine's virginity is the McGuffin that everyone's after," so again, I hope that Sakurakoji chooses different storylines as we go along.
I did like the last episode in this volume, where Misao genuinely comes to appreciate her family and friends when she thinks is a possibility for her. That spoilered bit would likely end the series, and we've got quite a ways to go yet, but Misao doesn't know that. ;)

Auch wenn mir das mit der Liebeserklärung vielleicht ein bisschen schnell gegangen ist, finde ich den Manga total süß! Und die Freunde (oder Getreuen) von Kyou gefallen mir jetzt schon. Ich glaube da erwarten mich noch einige witzige Szenen. :))

This volume was a bit better. Some dark shenanigans are afoot. And her dad opposes her having a boyfriend so this could get interesting.

Black Bird, Volume 2 introduces a gorgeous group of young men,Host Club Tengu the Eight Daitengu. Kyo's personal vassals. Among this group are Taro's adorable brothers, and the mysterious Sojo. The Daitengu help Misao piece together the mysteries behind Kyo, including his real reason for becoming head of his clan. Misao also learns the secret behind her lost childhood memories, but it comes with a hefty price.
Misao gets herself into yet another compromising situation in which Taro becomes my new hero. I swear, this girl must not be too bright. With as much danger as she's always in, you'd think she'd learn to be more cautious.
In this volume, we get to see another side to Kyo that I knew had to buried under all that horniness. The history of his relationship with Misao is sweet, and shows his softer side. I quite enjoyed seeing a more romantic, rather than constantly in heat, Kyo. There were a lot more funny moments than the first volume had, which nicely balanced out all of the sucking face.
This series is like a bad car accident. I shouldn't look but curiosity gets the best of me and I can't help myself. There are elements that grate on my nerves, but at the same time I find this series entertaining. So far, the covers are of Misao in tears looking to be on the borderline between pain and orgasm. I really hope that future volumes will change it up so she doesn't look so damn helpless.

By the time I finished Black Bird Volume II I realized that I’m now hopelessly addicted to this series and all its fascinating main characters. In this edition, Kyo’s eight Tengu daitengu (imagine them as his 8 best friends and bodyguards to Misao) come to town to meet his “bride-to-be” that they’ve heard Kyo obsess over for the last ten years.
I bet ya every time I read about them I had stars in my eyes. They are all completely adorable, especially the six-year-old triplets, two of which are Taro’s (Kyo’s house servant and trainee) brothers. Why can’t they be real so I can give them huuugs??? *sob* It was fun watching the eight interact with Misao. They took her under their wings (I’m so punny) and treated her like she was their sibling. I hope they'll be sticking around for the next few novels!
Along with the daitengu visits Kyo’s older brother, the ex-heir to clan Tengu that despises Kyo for becoming leader. At first he appears to be suave and charming, but his nefarious plot is soon discovered when he kidnaps Misao and Taro, and I discovered just how sick he really is . . .
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this sequel. It was as humorous as the first Black Bird volume and even more endearing. Misao and Kyo make the cutest couple . . . and those kissing scenes . . . ♥_♥ I cannot wait to see what Sakurakouji has up her sleeves for volume three!

This series revolves around Misao, a human who can see demons, and Kyo, a demon who wants to take Misao as his bride. The thing though is that if a demon were to drink Misao's blood they would have a long life, if they eat her flesh they would be granted eternal youth, and if they make her their bride their clan would have prosperity. So the big question was whether or not Kyo was trying to marry Misao because he loved her or just to benefit his own clan.
I expected this situation to lead to misunderstandings and insecurities between the 2 characters for several volumes but this volume answers the question for both the reader AND Misao. It seems like the artist squandered a great opportunity for tension and plot twists by closing that plot thread so early on in the story. Although, not gonna lie, as an impatient reader I did like knowing the answer!
I will also say that this volume showed me explicitly that this series is geared toward a slightly older audience that I thought it was. Scenes involved attempted rape and attempted murder. That's seems a bit hard core for a teen series...or maybe I just haven't read manga enough lately??

Main stupid heroine loves main hero. Main stupid heroine is not sure he loves her back, and doesn't confess even when main hero saves her life countless times almost dying himself.
Some lame humor about the lower tengu and lots of slaps. Sorry for the bad English, this manga is boring me and I want to talk like a cat.
P.S. Not readable for people over 25 years of mental age.

The storyline plays out like a common shojo manga, only the themes are a little unique. This manga is definitely to-read though I must say, not something you would recommend to lower-age groups, since it contains sexual themes.

This review will be the same for all of them-- excluding book seventeen and eighteen-- as I'm going to briefly review books 1-16
I've wanted to read this manga for quite some time, and once I started reading it like a few weeks ago. I couldn't stop. Despite what anyone says, I love this manga. I love the artwork. I love the main character's romance. I love the plot line. And I love all of the characters that make up this manga. There's a lot of people who've said that Hime-sama, the main character in this series, isn't independent, but that she's insufficient and relies on Kyou-sama, which is why this manga isn't good enough to read. Well, okay for one, that's all controversial. And secondly, I don't like my handfuls of dependent girls that can't do anything, in the other genres of books that I read, one example of one of those girls would be, classically, Anastasia Steele from Fifty Shades of Grey.

Anyways, and since I know what an insufficient girl looks like, I'd just like to get it clear that Himi-sama (or Misao-san) is not one of them. Misao-san wants to be with Kyou so strongly and she wants to be a part of Kyou's life so much because. She. Loves. Him.

Not because she's dependent on him. She lived the majority of her life without him. And she didn't die. So? And then for the things that she actually is depend on Kyou for? Like the youkai coming after her because she is the senka? Now that. You actually can't blame Misao for being dependent on Kyou for that because Misao, as a human, can't do anything about that.
Misao differs from girls like Anastasia Steele because as you advance in the stories you blatantly see that Misao wants to help Kyou and the family she has acquired through being the senka and being protected by the great eight. She doesn't want to just sit by and watch people fight her battles. She's strong and independent enough to identify that that's not what she wants and that if she can help in any sort of way- she'll do it.
Beyond that issue-
This anime has a really great romantic factor in it. Beyond the artwork which I absolutely adore (honestly, it's really hard for me to get into an anime or a manga if the artwork is half-assed and illogical like ... a man's arms are past his knees... like that's just weird) the relationship between Kyou and Misao is bitter sweetly adorably and just a relationship that makes my heart cringe. Kyou worked hard for ten years, moving past his older brother, just so he could become the head of the family and he could marry and protect Misao and not let her marry his brother Shou, who she'd been arranged for initially, and whom seemed as if he had many dark secrets of his own.
And Misao who only wants to make Kyou happy and is happiest around him, even though that means she'd have to give up her friends and her family who relentlessly stay by her side.
I just remember smiling so much in response to Misao and Kyou because they really are just a sweet couple- the couple that you have hope for in all the shitty relationships that take place nowadays.
And then, as a whole, the manga's premise is very interesting as it creates a new and interesting world of clans and dark spirits sharing the world among humans.
I definitely recommend this ^^

3.58. After reading the reviews for the previous volume, I did start to notice how annoyingly demanding Kyo is, and how confident he feels in using Misao's body in a lewd way despite the fact that she might not be ready for that level of affection yet.
Maybe his personality is like that, and maybe that quality of horniness is acceptable for a demon? But this just sounds like I'm making obscure excuses... 😅
Guiltily I did still enjoy this volume because I credit the love that Kyo has for Misao. I don't put him to the standard of what love should look like in the 21st century, but in my eyes Kyo and Misao have a different kind of love that still holds its cuteness for me.

Now that Misao know she is hunted by demons and that her blood is wanted by them all she had to admit that Kyo and his followers are her only chance of survival in a world that is thrusting for her blood. But this time his older brother Sho arrives and with him more questions and fears strike Misao.
She knows she is very attracted to Kyo, but she isn't sure if he feels the same or that what her blood promises his Tengu family is his only interest?

The almost r*pe scene was unnecessary and so was Misao's kissing of the triplets.
They are small children wtf was Misao thinking?
I had read up to volume 3 and I did not return till 2014 in the summer to start it reading again and only because of:
1- I heard the rest wasn't like that past six volumes which was a lie of course.
2- I liked the Japanese folklore aspects.
3 - and lastly I hate not finishing series I started.

This is the second book in the series, again we are pulled straight into the world of Misao and Kyo.
in this volume we are introduced to some of Kyo's clan, and given a bit more information.
Really enjoyed this, and can't wait to get my hands on the 3rd volume now.

Much better than the first volume since several things were explained, making the story a little more clear. I love Misao and Kyo is such a BOY. Geez, chill those hormones, Kyo. Overall, a sweet, cute and engaging story.
