This beautiful debut novel has everything: the laughs, the friendships, the swoon and all the sexiness and smut!
Dean the hottie and Christy the Queen got me captivated with their story. This is one of those couples who think they hate each other but they just want to jump to each other’s bones. They knew each other from high school but a lot of misunderstandings and misconceptions about each other always got in their way to give love a chance.
Christy was a badass writer and a loyal friend. Her grief and pain were heartbreaking, but seeing her battling her demons and trying hard to find a place she really belonged to was very inspiring. The way Lila developed her character in this area was very smart and heart touching! I loved how despite her insecurities she was constantly reassuring herself and reminding herslef about her worth and what she was capable of accomplishing. I understood why she was so reluctant about Dean but at the same time I was dying for her to listen to him and give him the chance to explain.
Dean was a total dream bookboyfriend😍 He was sweet, caring, giving and so selfless. He just wanted to protect his loved ones and make sure everyone was OK. I loved how he was so concerned about Christy and how much he wanted to help her even though she was keeping him an arm’s length. He was so supportive and understanding even when he sometimes was a little hasty with his actions.
I loved how they were able to open up completely with each other and how in touch with each other’s feelings they were. They kept discovering more and more about one another and grew so much within the vulnerability they created physically and emotionally. The steam of this book... ? 🔥🔥🔥🔥daaayum! Lila definitely knows how to write the hottest scenes!
I loved this book from start to finish and I recommend it 100%

Ahhh what can I say about this fantastic book. It's Only Love is truly amazing and the chemistry is to die for.
Christy returns home after some time away after the loss of her father. In the process of fixing up his house she begins to find herself and the ability to love none other than heart-throb Dean. And let me just tell you, he is dreamy AF.
Dean likes to toy a bit with Christy which is adorable and flirtatious. His jealousy and possession over her had my heart pounding with anticipation.
The way the author brings these two together is incredibly poetic and authentic to their story. Wouldn't change a single thing.
What a wonderful debut from Lila Dawes, you seriously will not want to miss you.

There was some heart gripping angst, sweet and adorable that made my eyes teary, out of this world steaminess and a old fashioned marriage proposal happily ever after. This is the first book in a small town romance series, and it was the perfect starter to what will sure be an incredibly sweet and poignant series. I loved the side characters, their protectiveness over each other, and how we get little glimpse into what could be future couples. Christy's quest to find home was so beautifully done, and got me to realize this is one of my favourite story line. I also really loved how Dean wasn't afraid to be himself, not needing to be this macho guy everyone expected of him, and instead proudly searched for the love of his life.

After being only one or two pages in, I was immediately struck by the excellent writing quality of this book. There were good character and location descriptions right away. This was really refreshing since so many books seem so rushed these days, and I loved the way the author incorporated sights and sounds to really set the scene and make you feel like you were really in the moment. Well done! This is an expertly written enemies-to-lovers book. If you enjoy that trope, you do not want to miss this one! That happens to be my least favorite trope, but I recognize that as my personal preference and not a knock against this book that was terrifically written. There were times when the hero laughed at the heroine making her feel genuinely humiliated and I found it very hard to forgive him for that, but that is the kind of push-pull kind of friction that many enemies-to-lovers fans will adore. The book was written in dual POV, which did help me understand the hero a little better. As the book went on, it was not hard to love both Dean and Christy and it was easy to root for them to find their HEA. I loved how the author set each scene with the perfect amount of description and how she skillfully developed the romance with nothing rushed, nor did the story lag. Definitely the kind of book that sucks you in and won’t let go!

It’s Only Love is the incredible new debut novel by Lila Dawes. This book was a real joy for me to read, not only because I’m obsessed with small town romances, but because I also got to know the author and really understand her written voice.
Citrus Pines is an amazing small town, and if it existed I’d be on my way there to bask in its scents and meet all of these amazing characters.
Christy had returned home to Citrus Pines under unfortunate circumstances. She is sorting through her emotions and feelings, and determined to rejuvenate her childhood home in the hopes of it finding a new owner. Her best friends are her support system, and I loved these women as they were fun, flirty and often at times hilarious.
But then there’s Dean. Handsome, gorgeous and heartthrob Dean, who Christy convinces herself she hates, when really we all know there’s a fine line between love and hate. The pair have a lot of sparring banter, but when the dots align their relationship is on fire, and I really felt their passion and understood all of their flaws.
I loved a lot of the supporting characters such as Beau, as it really gave me insight into true to life struggles, he is a man who has struggled with body image, but has also helped others work on their own.
This book is unique and original because it’s a fresh idea, with some really good hard hitting moments. I would recommend to all small town/ enemies to lovers fans, and you will not be disappointed.
I am excited to see what else this author conjures up, and I am incredibly honoured to have been a small part of her writing journey and get to see her achieve a goal. Amazing book!

This was a really fun read. Characters were a lot of fun. I loved the kind of sort of love triangle, and I’m excited for book two already. I want to know what their deal is!
The fireplace scene was fantastic. Loved it. Makes me want to sit in the dark and light some candles.

What a great debut novel that had me falling in love with not only the main characters Christy and Dean, but also their friends and Citrus Pines! I loved this enemies to lovers romance, and adored the strong friendships throughout the book. And man was it steamy!!

Argumento:
Christy Lee está pasando lo peor
momento. Su novio cabrón se ha escapado con todo su dinero, dejándola completamente arruinada. Ella es una escritora que trabaja por cuenta propia con el peor caso de bloqueo del escritor y, para colmo, su padre separado acaba de fallecer.
Ahora, tiene que regresar a su hogar en Citrus Pines para ocuparse de la propiedad y planificar el funeral, en la ciudad que no tiene más que recuerdos dolorosos para ella. Especialmente en la forma del soltero de la ciudad, Dean Campbell. Después de haberla humillado públicamente en la escuela secundaria, no quiere nada más que evitar a Dean y abandonar la ciudad lo antes posible. Pero cuando la casa necesita reparaciones, y sin dinero para pagarlas, Christy tiene que aceptar de mala gana la oferta de ayuda de Dean.
Sin embargo, para alguien que la calificó de poco atractiva en la escuela secundaria, Dean parece estar prestándole mucha atención. Con sus problemas de confianza inexistentes, ¿podrá Christy bajar la guardia y abrir su corazón?
Mi humilde opinión:
It’s Only Love es un romance de enemigos a amantes en un pueblo pequeño. Citrus Pines nos presenta a un grupo de amigos que se conocen de la secundaria, Beau, Justine, Taylor, Dean y Christy. Estos dos últimos se detestan desde la adolescencia pero 15 años después se ven forzados a volver a verse y descubren que hay una fuerte atracción entre ellos que no pueden resistir.
Este es otro libro que leo en lo que va del año dónde los protagonistas no crecieron sino que se quedaron en la secundaria. Durante toda la historia no hay nada más que tonteo y tantos malos entendidos que yo no podía dejar de poner los ojos en blanco.
Cuando eran adolescentes, Christy escuchó a Dean decir a sus amigos un comentario hiriente sobre ella en un momento de enojo. Christy también hablando con su amiga dijo comentarios hirientes sobre él, según ella no lo dijo enserio. Desde entonces los dos son enemigos.
No puedo creer que durante todo ese tiempo nunca hablaron, se disculparon y lo superaron. Este conflicto es la razón por la que durante años no se llevan bien.
Hubo momentos en los que esto se menciona y se disculpan. Los dos admiten que estuvo mal, que nunca quisieron lastimar al otro y que no pensaban lo que habían dicho. Entonces por qué arrastraron este problema por tanto tiempo!? Quería agarrar a estos dos y decirles que maduren de una buena vez porque todavía seguían actuando como niños.
Después del odio y el no puedo soportar verte, el pasado queda olvidado y es todo sobre la lujuria. Los posee a los dos, se acercan, se alejan, se burlan del otro, se lastiman, sacan conclusiones erróneas todo el tiempo, quieren ser amigos pero terminan besándose y siendo amantes... El tira y afloja me resultó pesado y la forma que actuaban me terminó frustrando.
Estaba esperando el acercamiento forzado cuando Dean se ofrece a ayudarla con la casa pero si bien me decía que durante las semanas se iban acercando más, conociéndose más mutuamente, yo no lo sentí así. No hubo una conversación entre ellos más profunda o una escena divertida para variar. No estaba pasando mucho más que Christy y Dean persiguiéndose con lujuria para ver quién caería en la tentación al final.
Perdón pero me cansé de ellos. Solo quería acabar el libro y lo hice a duras penas.

DEAN FRIGGIN CAMPBELL! Holy hotness Batman, this bloke was the ultimate in romantic heroes. Sweet, caring and just a little bit filthy, I resembled the heart eye emoji when reading about him.
Returning to Citrus Pines, the small town she grew up in, our loveable heroine Christy was dreading the thought of being back there. Back in town to organise her fathers funeral and sort out his house, the only thing she was looking forward to was seeing her best friends Taylor and Justine. The dynamic between the three friends was epic, and it was one of my favourite aspects of the story.
When Christy runs into her teenage crush and nemesis Dean (😍), the sparks immediately fly. These pair were like magnets - as much as they tried to repel each other, they somehow always found themselves drawn together, and I adored them. Dean was not your archetypal playboy hero who was only out for a good time, he had depth and was literally the nicest person (aside from Beau, he was adorable as well). Watching him and Christy fight against each other and eventually give in was an absolutely joy, and let’s just say, this pairs definition of getting some air was… interesting to say the least (IYKYK).
It’s Only Love was an incredibly sweet and steamy story, and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to read, stupid Kira.

This is the first book in the Citrus Pines series being a small town, slow burn, enemies to lovers romance.
Christy is a self employed author who returns to Citrus Pines after her dad passing away and her boyfriend running off with all her money. Upon her return to Citrus Pines she faces all the painful memories it holds, one of them being Dean Campbell when he had publically humiliated her in High School. But when seeing Christy back in town, he can't keep his eyes off her... His Marilyn Monroe ✨
Boy do I wish this was done in dual POV 🥺
Being done in third person made it a little harder to connect with the story and characters. There was a lot of push and pull between the two of them which started to get tiresome. The storyline was good (had potential to be better), I didnt mind the romance, I adored the friendship group, and for a little bit there even a bit of a love triangle. It wasnt bad for a debut novel, the side charcters have peaked my interest... so I will continue to book 2 ✌🏼

I really enjoyed how Lila built up the story and relationship between Christy and Dean.
The more intimate scenes were written really well, and I like how the book was packed with such a mix of sweet moments, and then outright steamy ones. I really liked Christy's character, and the little details that Lila included throughout the story...like Dynamite Pink!
Also I liked that Christy was a writer, that part of her was so relatable and watching her overcome writer's block the way she did made me want to cheer her on over and over again (not sure if that's a spoiler). Reading how Dean helped her earned him some major brownie points too! I really liked how he just understood what she needed in that moment, and gave it to her. It was my favorite part of the whole story.
All in all, I really enjoyed the start of the Citrus Pines series and look forward to seeing what happens next!

Also I liked that Christy was a writer, that part of her was so relatable and watching her overcome writer's block the way she did made me want to cheer her on over and over again (not sure if that's a spoiler). Reading how Dean helped her earned him some major brownie points too! I really liked how he just understood what she needed in that moment, and gave it to her. It was my favorite part of the whole story.
All in all, I really enjoyed the start of the Citrus Pines series and look forward to seeing what happens next!

Fantastic sexy new series - you must read this!
I was smitten from the beginning, Lila Dawes completely drew me into the world of Christy and Dean and all their friends. I could picture the bar, the garage, the houses, it was all so real, I was totally engrossed in this story. And it was so so steamy. You might want to put the book down once just to come up for air. Fan definitely required. I loved all the characters, and I so hope each one gets their own book as they are all so cute, individual and some of them really need their luck to change! I'm ready for book 2 right now!

IT’S ONLY LOVE, book one in the Citrus Pines Series, was AMAZING! This slow burn, second chance romance had everything I crave in a novel. It had all the feels. Sometimes, I wanted to cry, other times, I wanted to shout, occasionally, I giggled, and often, I found myself blushing. I wish I were able to give this a higher rating than 5-stars because simply put, it’s fantastic.
My favorite romance trope is enemies-to-lovers. I enjoy banter and debut author, Lila Dawes excelled at writing it. When down-on-her- luck novelist, Christy Lee returned back to her hometown and encountered the ultra-sexy Dean Campbell who had broken her heart many years earlier, I knew I was going to be hooked. And when Dean said, “Darlin’,”. I was a goner. He was a book boyfriend that is sure to make any reader swoon.
Ms. Dawes brilliantly described her secondary characters as well. I’ve already got book two in the series on my Kindle!

This book has it all; loyalty and lies, friendship and betrayal, secrets and revelations. Every character comes to life making you feel part of the action - and there is some amazing action? There are so many hidden treasures that you just have to keep reading. This is just the first in what appears to be one of the most fascinating, intriguing, sizzling series of novels that have been missing from our shelves for a long time. Roll on Book 2!

This debut novel is a small town southern romance about two enemies from high school who run into each other while Christy is home for a funeral.
I loved the complicated dynamic between Dean and Christy. They are spicy hot and feisty and so, so good for each other. Dean turns out to be so sweet. Some of the little ways he shows affection for Christy truly melted my heart.
Steam level is off the charts. Highly recommend this for romance readers looking for lots of sexy scenes. 🔥🔥🔥

What a lovely, i.e.: steamy AF debut!
I read Color of Love (Citrus Pines #2) before reading this one, so I had a feeling this one would be just as good! And I was right! Now, in hindsight, I wish I hadn't read #2 first—so please read #1 first!—but knowing the ending didn't spoil it at all and I enjoyed it that much more because of it!
Christy is adorable, and I just loved how she strives to overcome her insecurities. She's feisty, but kind, snippy, but likeable. I particularly loved how she tries to deny her attraction to Dean... As if that would even be possible! Dean is sexiness personified from the moment he walks onto the page. And the way these two fight their feelings, the way the tension builds throughout the entire book, only had me reading faster and faster! The side characters are so well developed as is the setting—I could totally picture myself within the Citrus Pines world!
Lila sure knows how to use tension (sexually and otherwise) to shape her stories into something tangible. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes small town, steamy romances!!! Can't wait for part three!!!

This had quite a lot of internal dialogue. Too much, actually. Started skimming through them talking to themselves internally, as it grew very tired and very repetitive. They also had an issue of talking to themselves, in lieu of talking to each other. Poor communication. If they’d spoken, out loud to one another, this book could’ve been a minimum of fifty pages less. Completely unnecessary drama at the end for zero reason having to do with plot at all.

This series was recommended to me by many people, but I barely finished the first book. The premise was promising, but I quickly realized that the whole plot is based on so many misunderstandings and false assumptions that it became ridiculous very quickly. Besides, adults who hold a childish grudge for 15 years for no reason are not worth reading about . It took me far too long to finish this book and I don't think I will continue the series.

Christy Lee is back in her hometown to attend to father's funeral, after being gone for 15 years. Fortunately, her close friends are there to welcome her and help. When she runs into her best friend's brother, Dean, a lot of past hurt and strong emotions are stirred up. His actions and words of carelessness still sting all these years later. As she deals with the loss of her estranged father, works on repairing the house she grew up in, and builds friendships again, the appeal of going home to her apartment in New York City begins to wane. Part of that reason is Dean and their shared attraction. Stolen kisses and private moments lead to more confusion and miscommunication between the two causing undue heartbreak. As Christy begins to see things in a new way, she finds herself wanting to stay in her home town with these wonderful people. But her feelings for Dean and their hot and cold relationship confuses her more than helps with her decision.
This story was a frustration to read even though I did enjoy it. These two people in their thirties just need to have a con.ver.sa.tion. Their confusing mental hang ups leave each other heartbroken and confused more than is necessary. Just when they take a step forward, the other person does something immature and causes them to step back. While the drama felt unnecessary, there is a really good story here. Finding that one person you never forgot. Two people looking for something permanent in a relationship. Friends and found family in the sidelines. The HEA made me huff "finally" while I had a smile on my face, but it felt like walking up hill to get there.

I'm looking forward to book two and future works by the author.

Lila Dawes, I Bow To You! You put everything a Contemporary Romance should have plus so much more. You delivered amazing main and secondary characters. You gave me some of the steamiest times ever. You made small town perfectly ok and it was just a joy to read.
The story follows Christy. She returned home after the loss of her father and other unfortunate events. She is indeed of money and unfortunately, before putting her parent's house on the market. The house needs some major renovation. And you might ask who kindly offers to help? None other than Dean. The boy who humiliated her back in high school and never forgave.
I loved this book!!!!!!! This book was the holy Grail find OMG. So damn good. This is my first Lila Dawes book and I'm sold. This book had it all and more. My emotions are all over the place right now. It's Only Love made me cry, laugh, and want to lick my kindle. lol
Christy and Dean's love story was the very definition of romance. It was beautiful, passionate, and giving. I felt their love like it was a real tangible thing. Their story sucked me in and stole my heart.
I just loved this book. I will be reading more books by this author that is for sure. I would recommend it to anyone who loves romance. Try this book for real it was awesome.

I read Lila's debut months before, only to realize now that I hadn't submitted a review. Well, I'm rectifying that immediately.
Christy returns to her hometown in a haze of grief to plan her father's funeral, promising to return to New York afterward.
Only, there's more waiting for her back in her hometown than just her unresolved grief over her relationship with her late father. She also collides with Dean, a former high school crush.
Long simmering old misunderstandings rear their ugly heads while Christy and Dean fight their attraction to each other. Their passions, underlying affection and love come through and seeing the relationship they're both able to build with each other just warms your heart.
A particular sequence that really illustrated how much Dean supported Christy's writing career continues to stick with me and seeing Christy's independence and strength in the face of dealing with her grief, her guilt over running away from home and her previous trauma was so inspirational.
I loved seeing how Dean allowed himself to become more human, to be more vulnerable with Christy and to acknowledge where he was wrong.

The passion between Dean and Christy is good but so far in this series (I'm on book 3), the driving plot points are lack of communication/miscommunication AND need for therapy. Literally Dean and Christy "hate" each other because they both said not nice things about the other when they were in high school...15 years ago. I'm not saying I don't remember things said about/to me in high school but I have moved on in my life to have let those go. Get the fuck over these things, people. AND get yourself some therapy. Dean because of his dad and crappy family life. Ditto for Christy.
I wish there had been some more development/conclusion of Christy's relationship with her dad. We find out that her dad was an not well adjusted adult who was a dick to his daughter, causing her to run away. And then, BAM, 15 years later he dies and she has no resolution but finds out that he wrote her unsent letter after letter but didn't actually reach out because he thought her to be happy. Leaving the town to think Christy just never came back to see her dad...
