Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966) was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, animator, entrepreneur, entertainer, international icon, and philanthropist. Disney is famous for his influence in the field of entertainment during the 20th century. As the co-founder (with his brother Roy O. Disney) of Walt Disney Productions, Disney became one of the best-known motion picture producers in the world. The corporation he co-founded, now known as The Walt Disney Company, today has annual revenues of approximately U.S. $35 billion.
Disney is particularly noted for being a film producer and a popular showman, as well as an innovator in animation and theme park design. He and his staff created some of the world's most famous fictional characters including Mickey Mouse, a character for which Disney himself was the original voice. He has been awarded four honorary Academy Awards and has won twenty-two competitive Academy Awards out of fifty-nine nominations, including a record four in one year, giving him more awards and nominations than any other individual. He also won seven Emmy Awards. He is the namesake for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in the United States, as well as the international resorts Tokyo Disney, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong.
Disney died of lung cancer in Burbank, California, on December 15, 1966. The following year, construction began on Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. His brother Roy Disney inaugurated the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971.
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) (commonly referred to as Disney) is the largest media and entertainment conglomerate in the world in terms of revenue. Founded on October 16, 1923, by brothers Walt Disney and Roy Disney as the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company was reincorporated as Walt Disney Productions in 1929. Walt Disney Productions established itself as a leader in the American animation industry before diversifying into live-action film production, television, and travel. Taking on its current name in 1986, The Walt Disney Company expanded its existing operations and also started divisions focused upon theatre, radio, publishing, and online media. In addition, it has created new divisions of the company in order to market more mature content than it typically associates with its flagship family-oriented brands.
The company is best known for the products of its film studio, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, today one of the largest and best-known studios in Hollywood. Disney also owns and operates the ABC broadcast television network; cable television networks such as Disney Channel, ESPN, and ABC Family; publishing, merchandising, and theatre divisions; and owns and licenses 11 theme parks around the world. On January 23, 2006, it was announced that Disney would purchase Pixar in an all-stock transaction worth $7.4 billion. The deal was finalized on May 5. On December 31, 2009, Disney Company acquired the Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for $4.24 billion. The company has been a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average since May 6, 1991. An early and well-known cartoon creation of the company, Mickey Mouse, is the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company.
Love the easy reading level for my 6 year old daughter. Let’s her practice without getting frustrated with unknown words. Also, the lesson of the story is cute - make your guest feel at home. We love books, but having it conveniently on our phones and tablets makes it even better for nighttime and on the go reading.
My daughter enjoys these kids books via Amazon prime and kindle. It makes it easy to read anywhere and anytime. Good reading for after school assignment.
Aika perinteinen tarina tv-ohjelmasta (?) tehtyyn kirjaan. Olisin kaivannut kuvitukseen enemmän yksityiskohtia, nyt sivuilla saattoi olla esim. päitä valtavissa lähikuvissa. Prinsessafanille kelpasi kyllä.
Cora's review: I liked the princesses. And I liked the unicorn. The boy played and the unicorn caught the horseshoe when the boy throwed it. And they started to dress up and the green dress had a earrings. And the unicorn started to run away, just a little bit. And the girls was angry and the other one wanted the hat. And two girls was sad. The castle is their home. And one girl had crowns and a necklace. And the unicorn wants some music. And they started to dance. And the girl and the boy just hugged the unicorn. And they all hold hands and one girl was backwards. And they all started to clap and bow thems heads.
While I really liked the story and the "Princess Lesson" at the end, I was a bit disappointed in the artwork. The close-ups were great, but anything with a bit of distance was blurred. I also found the "picture reading" to be distracting. I am very much hoping that this type of reading works well for the intended audience of Pre-K kids and other beginning readers.
I gave it 3.5 stars because of the blurry artwork. I've read others of these Pre-K books, and they didn't have any blurry pictures, despite being illustrated by the same people/department. Overall, though, the story was very enjoyable.
Small wonder this has been a favorite pick between feature Sofia and a unicorn. Sofia's "special friend" for the play date is a shy unicorn that needs some help making friends with her over-eager siblings. Sofia's gift for talking to animals comes in handy once again as she soothes the panicked foal so they can enjoy a fun afternoon together. As with most of the early "passport to reading" books, the wording for the story is overly simplified and uses pictures as much as words in the telling. Short and to-the-point makes it ideal for small children.

Disney never disappoints even though there are so many that will argue that it does. I have found that princesses, a fairy or two, and talking animals are not just for girls; they are also for boys as well. I have a 5 year-old and a 1 year-old, and they both gain a lot of wisdom from the stories that teach it never helps to do wrong, and the only way to ever come out on top is if you do what is right.
Pictures and storyline are fine. I take issue with this book being billed at Pre-1. Readers are given picture cues for the words Sofia and palace, but are expected to sound out King Baldric, Queen Miranda, and figured all on their own. I just don't think the reading level was consistent with the intended audience.
I get that the little pictoral representations of key words/characters are meant to be helpful for early readers, but they were distracting and drew me out of my immersion in the story. The illustrations were nice: typical Disney clean lines and bright colors, and expressive characters (occasionally hilariously so). The moral was also inoffensive.
I hope this story is a future episode of Sofia because it was really cute. I enjoyed this story even in this simple form. It would be a great episode and I really hope Disney Junior is working on it. This is definitely a great book for fans of Sofia to read.
book was age appropriate for my daughter, she loves the character and listened attentively. my daughter was asking for another story for me to read to her.
Sofia has powers to talk to animals.Pearl is a unicorn and loves music so Sofia finally realised that Pearl likes music. It is a soft & pretty story & i like it.
