This is a terrifying case of a raggedy Ann doll named Annabelle. The case is from the 1970’s and is highlighted in the book The Demonologist. This is one of the Warrens most asked about cases. The referral came from an Episcopal priest. A somber toned clergyman told Ed Warren of two young nurses who had communicated with what they thought to be a human spirit. One of the girls’ friends had been attacked physically, and the activity was still in progress, so Ed accepted the case. With that the priest gave Ed the phone number of the girls. Ed immediately called the number and upon reaching one of the girls, Ed verified the existence of the problem and told the young women that he and Lorraine were on their way.
Edward "Ed" Warren Miney was an American paranormal investigator and author associated with prominent cases of haunting. He was a World War II US Navy veteran and former police officer who became a noted demonologist, author, and lecturer. He worked with his wife Lorraine Warren.
3.5 stars. I've been on an Ed & Lorraine kick for some reason today & bought this and 4 other books pertaining to their cases. this story took me less than 10 minutes to read, but I'm pretty sure I won't be sleeping tonight. sure, there's typos and its definitely not written like a novel so its kind of challenging to read, but I think that kind of helps endorse it as a true story versus a fictional one. I knew the Warrens were apart of both the Amityville Horror & the Haunting in Connecticut cases, but I didn't know about this one until I watched The Conjuring. I didn't really understand why this story was intertwined with the Perron's, but it's creepy as hell & served as a good prelude I suppose. the movie pretty much covers their conversation with the people who owned the doll, leaving a couple things out of course, but it was VERY interesting to hear what happened once the Warrens took the doll home. that wasn't in the movie. I suppose I should continue reading more of their cases now so I can just have the shit scared out of me over the course of one night instead of multiple.
After watching The Conjuring I wanted to read more about the history of Annabelle. This story did not disappoint but I would have loved some pictures. Definitely recommended for Ed and Lorraine fans.
This is literally a ten minute read so you don't get much for your money, however if you like true stories about the supernatural then you can't get much scarier than the End and Lorraine Warren cases.
I read this particular one in time for the movie coming out, it was interesting to see the backstory of Annabelle that featured in The Conjuring. This is not for the faint of heart and paints a very real picture of demons or the supernatural, stuff we just don't enough about, it also a cautionary tale of how easy demonic spirits can invite themselves in your life if given the power.
I'm going to try and read a lot more by these 2 amazing people as it is Halloween at the end of the month, however I'm going to be reading 'House of darkness' books 1 and 2 next in the daytime only lols/
What happened??? I was reading it and really getting into it, then suddenly utilize was over, in like, ten minutes! I love reading about Ed and Lorraine Warren, but a disappointment!
I didn't know what to expect of this book but I hoped for more. I can't complain too much because I learned what I wanted about Annabelle which was how she became a possessed doll. There was less of a story than I would have liked.
I read this after seeing The Conjuring and learning that the couple had written some pieces about their work. Ultimately though, it was not particularly well-written and didn't deliver on any truly ghostly expectations. I was bored.
A very short, but interesting read about a possessed doll. This is a true account by Ed and Lorraine Warren of one of their 'clients', and is the background to the film The Conjuring.
I'd never heard of Ed and Lorraine before the film, but am definitely interested in reading more about them.
Since watching The Conjuring I haven't been able to Raggedy Ann the same. She used to be a childhood favorite. No it's just creepy and now even more so.
Though much of the content and claims in the book are extremely hard to believe, its a very interesting and creepy ready which can be accomplished in an hour or less.
