Having been researching the topic of real estate for a couple months now in fairly granular detail, I figured I would circle back to a beginner’s guide to ensure I’ve covered all the basics. In listening to many of the Bigger Pockets podcasts over the last few weeks and peripherally hearing about “The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Real Estate Investing,” I went and downloaded it to see what it was all about.

Let me begin by saying that, for a free resource, it doesn’t get much better than this as a starting point. As far as the immediate subject of real estate, this book is a great primer for those looking to grow their knowledge in the area. Lots of people on the Bigger Pockets podcast, and in general, quote “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki as their favorite real estate book. Even though that would also be my response when presented with the same question, it isn’t really a real estate book in and of itself. I would classify it more as a mindset-building book to start one on the path of financial freedom that happens to use REI as a backdrop.

After reading this book the world is your oyster. Having most of the pertinent information all laid out in front of you, you are much better able to venture forth from there. I took the opposite order and just dove in like a knowledge vacuum, but that’s just my MO. Glad to have my current understanding validated by the contents of this book.

As good of a book as this is, I've read most of what they're talking about in it before in other real estate investment books. FHA loans, 203k, seller financing, hard money lending, multi-family, fix and flip, Buy-Renovate-Rent-Refinance-Repeat (BRRRR). Read all about all of them. The single most significant takeawaay that differentiated this book was the emphasis on action, which has spurred me to take action in this area after something like 15 years of dreaming about it, and the emphasis on the free availability of needed information to succeed (biggerpockets.com). Thanks to the authors. This has actually been a significant dream of mine for a long time and I feel like I'm on the edge of accomplishing it.

Does What It Claims

Gives tons of great information and ideas for beginners interested in real estate.

Just be aware it is pretty basic information but I liked the wide scope they used. They touched on a little bit of everything. You won't be an expert at anything when you put this book down (and that's not even its purpose) but you will be aware of a lot of the real estate basics. Maybe even some things you didn't consider or know about.

Valuable information but very basic

Very basic overview on real estate investing. The information can easily be summed up in 5-10 pages maximum as there is too much fluff in this book.

Simple enough to get started

This book serves as a quick intro to a variety of real estate topics and tactics for investors. I highly recommend the other publications by biggerpockets to find more in depth strategies.

Basics

The very basic first book that you should read going into real estate investing with Bigger Pickets. Easy to read and understand, you’ll get the 101 level version of the industry and the approaches to real estate. A good, quick, starter read.

Good introduction

It’s a nice introduction and i love the real life examples, it makes you understand more. But it’s just a start or a simple introduction to the field.

TLDR; Insightful read. Find my full notes on the ebook here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1b...

After reading “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” at sixteen, I grew fascinated with the idea of investing through real estate. 4 years and many podcasts and articles later, I decided to pick up this book.

I’m still wildly new to this and never actually started my investing journey (other than join an REI meetup in my local area), but this book was the push I needed to get a better overview of what real estate investing entails and if it suits me. I really just want to pay off my student loans and build a better future for myself 😭 But this book helped me see that all of this is a BUSINESS and takes a lot of grit and strategy and pre-planning. And I can only hope that I can continue with this and pursue my other dreams/businesses at the same time.

This is perfect for a newbie that needs that bird’s eye view of everything, from what the different investment vehicles and strategies are, to how to tailor your goals to your strategy and build a solid team, to the different marketing and financing options an investor can take. I’ll need to read the success stories of other investors in my predicament to really determine whether I’ll make this a big thing but as a senior in college, now more than ever is when I’ll have the time and energy for this.

This book was very short and very basic but for a quick overview it did a good job. Brandon Turner from BiggerPockets essentially goes through the basics of real estate investing. Different things to invest in, different strategies in investing, ways to market, and ways to finance.

While there's not a lot of meat on the bone it gives you a jumping off point to dive more into topics that you're really interested in and exposes you to things you might not have considered before. Look forward to reading more in depth books on some of these topics.

If you're vaguely familiar with real estate investing (listen to podcasts, read forums, etc.) you could probably skip this book but it's so short you might as well give it a quick read.

A lot of great advice for beginner real estate investors; lots of breadth, but not much depth. Meant for readers who are completely new to real estate investing; even slightly experienced real estate investors should know all of this by now (but it might be a decent review).

Lots of plugs for the BiggerPockets website/forum, but not as annoying since most of the resources advertised are free. Can't complain much since the book is available on the BiggerPockets website for free. Overall recommended for novice investors only.

Great starting guide!!!

I am convinced that real estate is something I can highly benefit from, but like a lot of people, I did not know where to start. This book is a fantastic guide for anyone interested in the different ways to get involved in real estate, as well as articles to read from experienced investors. I would recommend this book to anyone and will use it again and again as a guide for my own investment goals.

Very good introduction

This guide provided a really good foundation for getting started on real estate. It covered the entire process without getting too low level. The examples and formulas were very helpful! It was good to have the blog links that provided further info at the end of each chapter. I'd recommend spending a section on what does a good deal look like to a "buy & holder" vs "flipper". Anyone who is just starting out should definitely read this guide!

First, it's free! That's a plus. Second, it's a quick and easy read. It's very generic and basically every chapter sends you to the website to get more information. That's ok becuase as a beginner's guide, you are exposed to many areas of REI and then simply choose on which one you'd like more information.

Quick and easy read of all the basics of Real Estate investing. Nothing ground breaking or amazing, but it does a good job of quickly covering a high level overview of everything you might want to know before you dig deep into the details.

Great Book

Nice overview of the general keys to real estate investing. Great for the beginner especially since its free. As an interested new RE investor, I gained a considerable amount of knowledge after reading this.

Pretty much an advertisement

This book is worth the price only because it is free. Maybe a true beginner will get something it of it, but otherwise it is just an advertisement for the author's real estate website and community.

Great beginner tips. Don't agree with some of the negative reviews out there, saying it's an ad for the site. It's a free book that provides numerous other resources to get even more information. What's wrong with that?

Great for anyone just starting out in real estate investing.

Seem to be excellent strategies

Looking for income as a retiree & these seem to be the slow, sure way to get there. Some of the suggestions are outside of my comfort zone but a few are just what I have wanted to do for years. I just didn't know where to start.
