Welp, I will probably end up abandoning the series after this one.
I was hoping the lack of character development in the first book was just a symptom of it being a first book and we'd get some depth in this one. Nope. The characters are just as frustratingly surface in this one as they were in the first one.
There are a lot of characters in this book many of whom appear for small amounts of time, serve a specific plot purpose and are moved along.
In one case a new character was introduced, we learned she was the mate of one of Jasmine's sons within 20 pages and zoom she was immediately part of the inner circle and a member of the family. All we really know of her is her name because she barely spoke ten sentences.
Even more frustrating is that the main characters still are getting no real depth. They are running around reacting to stuff, fighting and just being moved like pieces on a chess board.
And poor Jasmine was stuck in a house the entire book. She never got to go anywhere "for her own protection". So she basically sat in the fortress of a house and developed the miraculous ability to mentally speak with people. And had lots of sex with the hero. I just felt it was an odd choice to put the heroine in just one space and give her no real agency whatsoever. And although she and the hero are supposed to be in love and mated I could not figure out for the life of me why they loved each other? The only time they spend together is to have sex and for him to remind her that he must protect her.
The plot which had great potential in the first book, was a muddy mess in this one. There is a climactic scene at the end that was so disjointed it was hard to visualize what was happening.
The conflict that was set up is the kind that affects all of wolf-kind and it really should have had more urgency and felt more politically explosive than it did. It really is a good conflict but the author simply didn't give it the complexity it deserved. For a hard ass Alpha, Silas is a bit of a wuss when it comes to killing his enemy. I mean, you have these antagonist characters who have demonstrated an ability where they can easily and completely compel your own wolves to do whatever they wants them to do up to and including utterly betraying you and all your secrets and you keep them locked up? or refuse to kill them? I couldn't help but thinking that Curran or Kate Daniels would have ripped that bitch's throat out in a nanosecond. And they would have done it with flair.

La Patron series is very intriguing as it has different plot, action packed and is a romantic drama..

Why oh why do I do this to myself. I read this book knowing I didn't particularly care for the first one. The last one ended on such a cliffhanger-ish that I just had to see what happened between Silas, Jasmine and her 'litter'. But this one did the same thing. I really hate series where you have to read the next book to find out what happened. This one had me feeling like I was still reading the first book. I prefer books where there is some kind of resolve and we get new issues with the next book.
I was just left with more questions and a feeling of not actually finishing the book.
For instance...
I get this was science fiction but rooms appearing and disappearing was confusing. Sometimes I couldn't tell who were talking, where they were or what was going on. Then there was the inconsistencies...
The story line was ok but it did hold my interest. My problem was the so many unanswered questions (see first spoiler) that left me kinda angry. I'm sure I'll buy the next one. I'll be angry when I hit the purchase button but I'll buy it none the less. *sigh

This was a series I literally started because I liked the cover and the blurb. I liked everything about this story. The characters are all really interesting and continue to grow emotionally. The storyline as laid out continues to become a lot more expansive than it seemed at the beginning with the addition of what appears to be rebels within the ranks. The locations are not exotic so make identification of where they are going or have been simple. There is plenty of action as far as fighting as well as carnal, they have a lot going on. The shifting of relationships and how they relate to each other and those around them as secrets are revealed is important to how things move forward.

She is almost tempted because it is obvious Silas is not happy his pups are going to be half breeds. Can they come together and find a common ground?

The story continues
This next chapter reveals more of the breeds and half breeds tale. I'm finding the storyline a fine mix between a real world scenario and a mythos. Other than a title that really doesn't grab you, the book itself is worth reading. We see Jasmine and Silas come closer and recognize their union. At the same time, the story expands to include more relationships. I'm on to the next installment of an intriguing series.

Book 2 has the same issues as book one, however the storyline has more flesh to it, you can dismiss some of the other issues and focus on the story, still moves to fast but is marginally better writing.
The premise is interesting and you can see some good storytelling happening, however the writing and editing have been done poorly, some sentences don't make grammatical sense or any sense at all, some words are misspelled or have the wrong meaning. If you like hot sex and fast paced stories and don't mind the poor writing style this book is for you. At its core the book has promise, it just needs a bit more work and attention to detail.

I am really enjoying the La Patron series by Sydney Addae. In BirthControl, the second story in the series we continue Silas and Jasmine’s story. This story is best read in chronological order. I really enjoy both Jasmine and Silas. Silas continues to struggle with what Jasmine means to shifters and Jasmine struggles to accept that her choices are yet again limited. I loved how both characters navigated the swiftly changing landscape of their lives. Ms. Addae allowed us to journey through Silas’s acceptance of that which he can’t control, as well as getting less than he expected. Jasmine also had to come to terms with issues that are larger than her feelings. That doesn’t mean that Ms. Addae doesn’t sneak romance into the lives of Silas and Jasmine. Because when neither was looking they became more to each other than expected. I loved that Ms. Addae allowed love to ambush both Silas and Jasmine. Both learned to trust in each other and found more than they dreamed. Woven into their love story is the danger to the status quo and the decisions forced upon them in an attempt to stem growing hatred and the possibility of war and bloodshed. I am enjoying the every growing threads in the story and look forward to what Ms. Addae has in store for us next.

This is part two of the story "Birthright".
The story and the plot are very good. Its a new concept and I cannot wait to read what will happen next. Its not a series as it is being sold to us, but it is one massive story line.
The author uses beta readers as her editing team which is not a good move as there are so many spelling mistakes that it needs a good editor to give it the once over. A spell checker alone will not do as the words are not mis-spelled, just not the right word used. It could be that the author has the spellchecker turned on and it replaces the misspelled automatically with a word that the software believes to be the correct word, but it is not the correct word.
Sentences ending with the word "with" are not hip.
I also had some issues with the conversations when more than 2 people were involved. It was hard to follow who said what.
If it were not for the editing I would give it a big 5 star!

As a continuation of the story from Birthright (La Patron 1) the development of the relationship between Jasmine and Silas is front and center. Jasmine is gaining more powers and Silas is realizing that his ties to Jasmine go beyond just sex. They are mates and the babies she carries are due soon. As they struggle to find their way with each other the shifter world around them is being rocked by the human breeders, their full blood protectors, their half-breed pups and the rebels. Add in another mate connection with one of Jasmine's sons and you are well on your way to being completely immersed in the world of the Patron as he tries to maintain control of the shifter world as well as the changes going on in his own life.

To be quite honest, even after having finished this novel, I am somewhat conflicted about it. Although it was a quick and not to mention, a seriously captivating read, it had some quirks that I could not just write off. Other than the usual misspellings & other editing quirks, there were a few issues with scene transitions, corny dialog, and farfetched scenarios... Perhaps I'm just another persnickety reader who demands too much perfection from her IRR's, but for $2.99, this book was worth the price and time invested.

I enjoyed this story I liked the way the relationship between Silas and Jasmine progressed . I can feel there bond growing reading this book. I guess my only complaint would be for the story to be longer all in one book. There seems to be a trend of cliffhangers in books, I would love for a author to give me one complete story, I know they give you the story as it comes to them. This is a good entry in this series I look forward to the next.

In part two, everyone has move to VW and live at Silas compound. you would think that Jasmine and Silas would work on there issue however that was not the case. Jasmine just complained and cried most of this book ( when she wasn't just giving in to sexual demands for Silas). In book one she had nore heart, now not so much. Silas was kinda meaner this time around. I know so many peiople love this series but, I did not really like this book. It just was not for me.

This 2nd installment in this series is really good. Silas is conflicted between his duty as the Alpha over all alphas and his growing emotional attachment to Jasmine. They both finally admit their love one another. YAY! ;-)

When I signed up for this tour (for a GP) I checked the series on Goodreads and I saw that, as many times before, readers’ reactions are quite different. Counting the fact that the book #1 is free, I didn’t resist the curiosity to read it. I cannot say I regret it. After reading the first book, although I had the possibility to ask the organizer for the next, I didn’t waste time with emails and I bought book #2. Thus, if you are new on Mythical Books, and don’t know that if we don’t like a story (or at least something about it which is important enough in our opinion) we choose to don’t write about it (you know, the tastes are not to be disputed), it is clear now that this is not a “polite” / promotional review.
Now, let’s talk about the La Patron: “BirthRight” and “BirthControl”. Since 2012 I read a lot of fantasy / paranormal (inclusive romance) books and most of the times I found in them a lack of originality in what regard the plots, characters, paranormal attributes etc. But in these two volumes I found some new or different things, even if sometimes is just about author’s approach of one or another aspect. This is the first plus. Another is the construction of the story: the main plot has its roots in the first book and grows in the second; I hope this will continue in the next ones. There are several interconnected conflicts (some obvious, some not so much), some are incipient, other are old and other seem to be already solved (I expect for them to be re-opened). There are some aspects which could have benefit from a better attention, but still I found enough explications for them and the possibility to get a better explanation in the next instalment(s) exist. Having in view that the first two volumes were published in 2013, the explicit scenes are present, but they are few and so, the paranormal content is not just a vehicle for some repetitive explicit episodes.
The characters are credible (for a paranormal story J), have a track record that allow them to transfer credibility to the story and to evolve with it. They have prejudices, pride, ambitions, but also knew to accept (or not) a change. The “bad guys” are various too; with different aims, different reasons or just being involuntary puppets they could cause real problems. The paranormal features and also the human ones play an important role and directly influence the characters's decisions and reactions.
The rhythm is good and becomes better in the second volume. After reading them, I could say that, maybe, it should have been better if these two parts were merged in a single one... but between readers who – from what I have seen – prefer fewer pages, publishers that impose a certain number of pages and what authors want to say, the perfect solution is quite hard to find.
Having in view that you can get the first book for free, you have nothing to lose, but reading it you may have a nice surprise. Enjoy!

The human breeder, Arianna, shows up at Silas' compounds and take control of the wolves, including Silas' right hand man, Jacques! What happens with Jacques? Is he completely broken? Will Arianna maintain control? Will Silas be able to break her hold? What happens to Arianna?
There are wolves, rebels, who want to kill humans who can breed wolves, as well as half breeds. There are also human breeders who want Jasmine with them. Who wins? Will the rebels take control of the Wolf nation? Does Silas accept Jasmine as his mate? Will they remind safe?I

Sydney Addae has a truly robust body of works. When I discovered the La Patron series, I greedily read all the books in that series and started on the next related series, featuring Asia. Two books into Asia’s series, I am going back to briefly review the La Patron series. Book two, Birth Control, follows closely after the previous book. Silas and Jasmine are together and expecting children. Jasmine is feeling trapped by the current circumstances that are truly beyond her control. After so many years, Silas had relinquished the idea of parenthood and is quietly appalled that his offspring will not be full-blooded wolves. In this installment, we see more from the enemies and how they are involved with the breeding mechanism but there are plenty of secrets left to unfold. Great series.

I liked it. Kind of got lost at times. Didn’t know who was talking at some parts. At one point, she’s two months pregnant, at the next she’s weeks away of giving birth.
There was no character development - between ALL characters. Silas doesn’t want to be mated to a human and the next thing you know, he’s mated and in love. One of the twins is mated to another twin named Rose. Within 5 seasons, she’s referred to as daughter in law and she’s in the inner circle and being allowed in parts of the mansion that Silas has warded others off of. Really? There were too many “breeders” for me to keep up with. I was like, “who is talking now?” Just confusing.
I’ll continue with the series. 2.5 stars.

Loving this series, I'm so wrapped up in it I cannot stop reading

Lip smacking good
Subtle humor? Don't know if its intentional or if Ms. Addae is just that slick with her words. Some of these sentences came out of the blue and had me laughing. The whole vibrator scene and the "you take it" was what had me keeping my eye out for Jazz's snark through her actions.

This book was ok. Didn’t feel like it transitioned well from book one. There were a lot of unanswered questions. What happens to Cameron. It’s like he disappeared. More around Rose and Tyrone’s story. And why did they have Jasmine stuck in the house the whole story. I really tried but it could have been more to draw attention to the heroine.

PART TWO TWICE AS GOOD!
Really enjoyed the love scenes and excitement surrounding the pack war.This was better than book one,really got to call in love with the characters. Great story a few editing issues but nothing major. I'm a fan. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

This is my review and how I see it. In BirthControl book two of the La Patron series picks up where book one left off. Jasmine Bennett has found herself pregnant by another shifter Silas Knight, La Patron of the wolf nation.
Jasmine - just found out about her twin sons dual-nature and is in lust with Silas even though he is not human. When the heat of Jasmine's lust for Silas is turned up it will open a doorway that Silas' wolf is happy to enter and Silas is not.
Silas - La Patron of the wolf nation in the United States (somewhat like the president only of wolves). His wolf wants Jasmine, he is intrigued by her but he wants a full-blood mate.
Silas is happy that he is finally having pups, but not so much as who he is having them by. Things get really interesting between these two when they find out who they are to each other.
Sydney Addae's werewolf series puts an interesting spin on the werewolf and human relations.
This series is for anyone who likes reading paranormal books that have some real sustenance to them.

Another great read. Sydney does an excellent job of connecting the characters to the plot. Each role plays a significant role. On to book 3.

This is the second book in the La Patron series and I defiantly enjoyed this book more than the first one. I love seeing how Jasmine constantly kept Silas on his toes. I also loved how her first set of twins constantly kept surprising him and helping him to see that having his 'pups' be half-breeds was certainly not a bad thing. The only thing that slowed the flow of this book down was the lack of communication between Jasmine & Silas. It was sometimes hard watching them come to totally wrong conclusions about what the other was thinking. I was glad to see that in the end of this segment they were in agreement and finally seemed to be starting to work as a team or as mates should. I can't wait to get to the next book in the series!
