The Live Dead Journey is an interactive experience that introduces readers to 12 missionaries who live and work among unreached people groups in the Arab World. On the journey, you will learn about 7 of the major cities in the Arab World, learn valuable truths from each missionary, walk with them through their community, and pray with them for the unreached people in their countries. Throughout the book there are exercises for raw art journaling and prayer meditation. Written by missionaries who live and serve in these nations, these followers of Christ are bringing the gospel to those who have not heard it. Young and old, male and female, they share a common passion to see the church planted where it does not exist. They are not heroes; they are simply trying to be obedient, struggling to "live dead," that Jesus might be glorified. To Live Dead is to live life wholly for Jesus… to die to self, knowing God will do a greater work through you… to announce the life of God among those who are unreached.
If you're interested in being a missionary to the Arab World, or just curious, this is a great book!
Every chapter is about a different country in the Middle East, and what it's like walking down the street- (sights, sounds, smells, tastes) I loved that! They talk about the beautiful parts of each culture and mention where things are harder/dark as well.
After this, there's a section about how they stay close to God, while on the mission field. (I found that interesting/helpful, and took many notes!)
Lastly, there's a section about their experience with one person, or a few people, while in that country. And something that taught them.
There's another book- 'Live Dead Life' -written by a missionary kid I'd really like to read, now! Very recommended!
This book came from a mission conference that my church holds yearly,I loved reading this book about ordinary people who give up their lives for unreached people in Arab nations hostile to the Christian faith. These missionaries not only give up their comfort, American culture and ways of living in safety , but are risking their lives to make the Gospel of Jesus Christ known to the Muslims where they are unwanted, and can be killed by those who oppose them. They gladly give their lives for Christ's sake to reach into a world of darkness to speak God's truth to those they form relationships with and build friendships that are eternal. These nations are on the restricted list for persecuted nations which means the govt is hostile to Christians. After reading this book I am committed to praying daily for these missionaries.
This is a superb compilation of powerful reflections on the nature of submission to God's mission. The combination of relevant mission topics, practical insights into the private spirituality and the compelling challenge to "live-dead" for Christ stirred me deeply.
There are 22 sections ranging from spiritual disciplines to missiological issues that the live-dead strategy incorporates. The creativity of the journal includes letters, cultural cameos that are full of insights and unique activities for journaling that aim to help the reader apply the truths being discussed.
I highly recommend this for anyone believing the words of Matthew 28:19 & 20.
Live Dead - The Journey is written by missionaries who work among the unreached in the Arab world. They share stories about how they spend their quiet time with Jesus each day, which I found helpful. They also share stories about the places they live and the people they work with.
This book is also interactive in that there's an opportunity to use raw art for journaling and prayer.
This book gives amazing insight not only to life in the Arab world as a missionary, but also to what extravagant daily time with Jesus looks like, and how the Live Dead values are exemplified.
