REVIEW: This was a Kindle freebie and was indicated as Volume 1. Complete misnomer - Chapter 1! I probably would have enjoyed this if I could have read the whole story but I certainly don't want to purchase it chapter by chapter.

Amish Blizzard

I love everything about Amish culture. How they have a simple life and I don’t mean an easy life just a simple one.

I should have known. I should have picked up on it. I should have seen the multiple books with "Amish Blizzards" in the biggest type that this was more than books in a series. In reality it is a set of novellas -- fairly short novellas -- in a series. Not a BOOK.

I could not like the main female character. By using a novella approach to this series, there is no time for character development. The character just "DOES" and you either accept it as a normal behavior a Amish maiden (school teacher) would do or not. I am part of the "NOT". Too bold. Way too bold. Had the character been developed so that her boldness for part of her personality & perhaps her mother had told her she needed to curb such actions -- but no, no time for that.

I plan to read no further in this series. And before read the next (free) book I downloaded by Sicily Yoder, I'm checking how many pages. If it's another short one, I'll skip this Amish author.

This is a short story, but I enjoyed it. It is the first volume in Amish Blizzard. We have an Amish school teacher, Abby Yoder ,who has come to Ohio to teach school so she can earn enough money to send her blind sister to Kentucky to learn Braille.
Nathan Yoder, is a neighbor who has lost his wife and trying to raise his children and two of then have special needs. Nathan is praying for a good school teacher who will stay and not leave. He also prays for a wife to help him with his children. I an looking forward to reading volume Two in this series. I gave this book a 5 star because it is good and well written.I was given an ebook to read and was not told I had to give a positive review.

Winter Surplus is the first chapter of a longer story that is sold in installments. It sets up the story where Abby Yoder moves to Ohio to become a schoolteacher to help her blind sister go to school to learn Braille so she can become a teacher to the six blind children in their community in Indiana.

Abby is distracted the first day by her next door neighbor, a widower with two special needs children she will be teacher. He wants a good teacher for his children and wishes for a good wife to help him raise the children.

Winder Surplus is a good setup for a novel but leaves the reader hanging on a cliff.

I normally don't care for short stories but I will read them once in awhile when I am in between books or at a doctor's office BUT I really enjoyed this short Amish story by Sicily Yoder. I got this ebook free while back from Amazon.com. It only has 3 chapters BUT I could have read a full book by this author. I wanted to read the next book but I didn't have it on my kindle and I was so disappointed.

If you are needing a quick read or just not a big reader and like/love Amish books I would recommend this book and author.

It read more like notes for a story than a fully thought out story. The characters weren't fully established or given depth. The teacher behaved in a way not in keeping with the community. I'm not sure such a person would've been allowed to be in such a responsible position, whilst having such little self control. A frustrating read as I would've liked to get to know the characters more and see more natural, less rushed interactions between them, more fitting their responsible positions in the community.

I enjoyed this story, gave me insight as to how Sicily Yoder writes.

This story, volume one in the Amish Blizzards series, served a great purpose. It allowed me to see how Sicily Yoder writes. And I loved her writing. I read many Amish romances and I went into reading this knowing that I was only getting a few chapters.

With that said, I felt Ms. Yoder stays true to the Amish people. I liked hearing the inner thoughts of her characters. I will be picking up the rest of the books in this series to see how it all works out.

Thank you, Ms. Yoder.

A very short "book", but kept me interested. This is volume 1 in a series, but I would not qualify it as a book. Amish school teacher has moved to Ohio from Indiana to teach and earn money to send her blind sister to a school to learn Braille. I will probably read more in the series.

Excellent story

This book sets the tone for the other stories Sicily Yoder has wrote. She introduces the characters and their plight in life. You can glimpse the possibility of a happy future, but wonder what that future will consist of.

Abby Yoder accepts a job as teacher in a small town so she can earn enough money to send her blind sister to a school in Kentucky. Abby wants her to learn to read Braille so that she can both help herself and help other blind people.

It was a good start but I didn't realize that it is only the beginning of a book. I might go back and find the book to read it all or I might not
