BRIGHTER THAN GOLD
In 1864 Columbia, California, spirited Katie McKenzie writes newspaper articles about the Griffin, a Robin Hood-style highwayman who robs from the unscrupulous mine owners and gives back to the townspeople. FIREBLOSSOM (A Matthews/Hampshire Novel)
Fox Matthews, a recent survivor of Little Bighorn, is in no mood for love, but when he meets proper Madeleine Avery in rollicking 1876 Deadwood, South Dakota, passion kindles in spite of the obstacles between them. As cultures collide between new settlers and the Lakota people, Fox and Maddie discover the secrets of their own hearts.

WILDBLOSSOM (A Matthews/Sandhurst Novel)
“An English Duke and a woman from the Wild West – that’s a combination you just can’t beat!” says author Catherine Coulter. Join impetuous Shelby Matthews, daughter of Fox and Maddie, as she manages the family ranch in Cody, Wyoming and promptly loses half of it in a poker game to dashing Geoffrey Weston, an English nobleman who has come to the West in search of adventure.

I read two of the three books in this boxed set, and I am through with this author. No chance in hell can I bring myself to read the third. Just the thought of continuing with it makes me want to cry...hysterically.

These are not historical romances. Period.
These are historical tellings and it just so happens that there are two people in it, called the protagonists, but they are really just a side note. They meet, they are attracted to each other, they get married...
Really, this one sentence about sums it up. There is nothing more to it!
The real protagonists are the historical setting, the clothes, the food and everything else you can possibly think of, which can bore you out of your ever loving mind...

Stranded on an island with one of this author's books and I will quit reading altogether. No joke!

Wonderful Series

Reading Carolyn Wright's books is like living the stories she tells. Her characters, interspersed with real people, help me get lost in the tales she expertly weaves.
Brighter Than Gold was an epic love story of journeys for Jack and Katie. Katie's journey from childhood to adulthood in a few short weeks was fun and exciting. Jack's struggle to reconcile his two vastly different lives was sometimes hard to go through and oh, how I wanted to shake him. Katie, the strong, and strong-willed heroine and Jack, equally strong, but disciplined, was a romantic hero always trying to deny his feelings. Here, Ambrose was the wise counsel guiding these two together. Ms. Wright is a masterful story-teller who does her research, making history come alive.
Her Renegade Lover shows how much people can change when love comes calling. Madeline and Fox thought they hated one another, but those two elemental emotions - love and hate - are much more alike than most realize. I loved the way they accepted each other's differences and learned of their similarities. And Gramma Susan was a wise counselor and a joy to get to know. The stories of America' many injustices toward the American Indian reinforced my feelings of shame for the actions of our government toward these proud people who had never wanted anything more than to be left alone on their own land.
The Duke and the Cowgirl tells the story of wild and impetuous Shelby, the daughter of Maddie and Fox, who grew up free of restrictions in Deadwood, South Dakota. She moved to Cody, Wyoming and there meets the dashing, handsome future Duke, Geoff. Naturally sparks fly from beginning to end in this delightful tale of a young wanna-be Annie Oakley and the man trying to accept the fate awaiting him back in England. Love creeps in, but Geoff is forced to return to London to accept what lies ahead, until Shelby appears there as part of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, where they are forced to meet again by no less than the the new King and Queen of England. While Shelby is shunned by the "ladies" of society, her acceptance by Queen Alexandra ensures her future. Charming story of love conquering even the thickest walls of convention and triumphing. I cannot get enough of Ms. Wright's stories laced with true characters and made real by her tedious research into history.

Enjoyable beyond words!

Cynthia, I've read all of your books & have derived great entertainment from them. Each one a delight.
Before I retired from teaching English, I used examples from less graphic quotes to teach every literary element. Your ability to enable a reader to feel the characters' emotions & visualize settings is priceless! You are a master storyteller! I've reread most of the books since retiring & looking forward to new ones. With profound gratitude & admiration.
Sincerely, Ms Alvie Hoffmann

Two wonderful romantic westerns!

Strong men with strong good intentions make good hero’s. Each book had them with Fox and then Geoff. Strong intelligent, independent women make good partners for such men. Thus after solving a few problems and disposing of some bad individualist (both men and women) we have a good romantic story. Good reading material, thank you, Jack.

The first 10 to 23 pages are missing from each. Each book starts around the middle of chapter 1.

The first half of Chapter 1 in each book is missing. No point reading further. Glad I spent little money for the series.

Since I'm not into Western Stories so I skipped the 2 books from this bundle and read only "The Duke & the Cowgirl".

Geoff Weston, Marquess of Sandhurst, bored in London and for one last adventure before his enter to an arranged marriage, he visits America, and ended up in Cody, Wyoming.

Shelby Matthews had come up with the perfect plan to make money for the family cattle ranch. Disguised as a cowboy, she lured him, a stranger, that she thinks an easy mark, into a poker game, however, he quickly wins half her ranch. She wants to hate Geoff but instead they become fast friends. With conflicts between duty and love to his new ranch and Shelby he is honor-bound to go back to England and an arranged marriage.

The last person he expects to see in London is Miss Shelby Matthews. Shelby is in England with Buffalo Bill Cody's show as a trick sharp shoot and this time, neither Shelby nor Geoffrey can deny their destiny.

A different story from my usual hr books but it still hold my interest where it took me to two different worlds and emotions. Again Ms. CW did not disappointing me.

Good Read

Lots wild west character's, full of adventures. Historical people are written, into lives with the main characters. Lots actual accounts in real history. Details of territories and surroundings. The women are devious at times, getting attention out their men. Sadness about indian movement, Big Horn Massacre. Joyful, tearful and hilarious at some scenes.
