Henry Drummond

Henry Drummond FRSE FGS was a Scottish evangelist, biologist, writer and lecturer. He was a friend and contemporary of the Rev. John Watson (the Kailyard novelist Ian Maclaren) at Stirling High School and the University of Edinburgh.

Many of his writings were too nicely adapted to the needs of his own day to justify the expectation that they would long survive it, but few men exercised more religious influence in their own generation, especially on young men. His sermon The Greatest Thing in the World remains popular in Christian circles.

Outstanding discourse on difficult and complex topics. Not to be read casually or quickly, but requires careful and deliberate attention. Thought-provoking.

Absolutely wonderful book! It's written in a some what antiquated language but the ideas presented are ones that the church today would do well to bring to the forefront. Science and religion (at least Christianity) are NOT at odds with each other.

Thoughtful Reading

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in expanding their thoughts about the order of life or where the human race may be heading. Only con would say this book could have used a few more explanations from science/religious institutions but opinions with sources were good also. To expand and/or combine thoughts of science and religion is not to be frowned upon. Leave space for imagination!

I had high hopes for this book, but was disappointed with the redundancy. The premise is sound and I appreciate the attempt to illustrate how the laws of nature apply to the spiritual life as well. Overall, I felt it would be an easier read if the repetitiveness was condensed.

I have an incredibly old version with an inscription dated 1898. Nifty book...very dry, but interesting.
