Our small group is just finishing this video-based study and learned a lot, but the presentation was fast and furious by an old guy with a terrible green screen, so it wasn't always engaging. I know more about several other religions than I did before, so that led to top-notch biblical discussions in our group. The questions in the book were okay, nothing riveting, but the definition of words, the comparison charts, and most importantly how to talk to people of that belief system were really helpful.
This is a handy side by side comparison of world religions and cults. It does not go in-depth but is useful for a basic comparison. Available as a pamphlet and I think that would be the best way to have this information.
I noticed on my own religion the author did not know what he was talking about. This is why you don't go to somebody who has a bias. Not a great or good book.
This is a well written summary of twenty major cults and religions. It provides a comparison between these twenty and Christianity. It is well written and concise. The major flaw is it lacks depth. However, it is ideal for anyone wanting a short read that gives them an overview and comparison of twenty cults and religions with Christianity.
It's important to educate your self in this book does that for you. Read up on the different religions so you will be well-equipped to spread the gospel.
I enjoyed the book as it covered religions outside of Christianity, but it was not was I was seeking when I purchased it. It does cover basic principles of many spiritual groups, but does not go to the depth in which I had hoped.
Reading over this the author and research teach provide some interesting information, although some of it not fully correct, showing a partial understanding of the beliefs of the religions they are reviewing.
5 stars because it is fair and accurate presentation of what each of these dissimilar religious worldviews maintain as truth. Anyone, from any background, should read the comparison before arguing for their faith based religion.
Helpful, quick essentials of most cults. Very helpful and easy to read. Clear, concise, and clarifying. Also presents the Gospel in an easy-to-understand format.
Brief descriptions of various splinter Christian groups, other religions, and even Wicca based on a framework of beliefs provided by the opening entry which is called Biblical Christianity. The comparisons were done fairly evenhanded and are useful for recognizing elemental differences. The issue would be the source of "Biblical" Christianity as a great many groups maintain that position including Baptists, Methodists, Evangelicals, etc... Looking at one example used for comparison, the Trinity. In defining the Trinity one way as if this was a universal solid Christian belief, while its variations have been a major bone of contention and division only being settled after the Council of Nicea in the 4th Century A.D. which afterwards slaughtered anyone who disagreed. This book therefore takes the trinity as a measure and ascribes it as legitimate "Biblical" by which to differentiate them from the others, on a point which was only established 300+ years after Jesus.
I felt the authors were truly attempting a evenhanded and fair approach. What is missing is the revelation of their actual Christian roots that were used as the yardstick for comparison.
Just thought that I would give this a quick look, and found it didn't even deserve that. Evidently the research done was not that extensive. I would not want to believe what is said about religions other than my own because the brief synopsis of mine is so inaccurate. Perhaps they drew from research done by Fox News as it appears to be of that calibre of truthfulness. If you want to really know what these religions are about, there are much better sources than this.
A very short and clear presentation of facts for learning and for reference, suitable for practicing Christians as well as all curious minds. Information provided is useful as guidance for young/New Christian disciples to enable them avoid spiritual contamination through mingling with false teachings and demonic religions. It also provides a handy source of reference for older Christians whose faith in Christ is beginning to wane.
Though there may be good intentions in the writing of this book, it falls short in several aspects. It's summaries of some religions includes things taken out of context and therefore leaving wrong impressions about some of their teachings. The overviews were okay but far too incomplete to get valid understandings of some of the mentioned religions. Overall, I was disappointed with the incompleteness and the number of things taken poo it of context.
A simple and interesting depiction of religions and cults that exist across the Globe. It is easy to read and provides accurate information. Although it is a bit simplistic-only the basics of every belief. However, I believe it is a useful book for understanding the differences between diverse cults.
A comprehensive overview of the major religions, this book works well as a quick reference card, but lacks real depth. A available pdf download version comes with the kindle version, which is a nice addition.
The was a good overview of the religions that were covered. Gave the basic information you would need to be able to have some insight into other cultures beliefs.
