Ohhh, thank the universe Melegal and Lorda didn’t become a thing at the end. I was scared there for a minute. These relationships are just awful! Melegal and Haze though…. I’m good with that. I struggled through some of this cause as I said before, a lot is repetitive. Poor Venir does nothing but fight through the entire book. Does he even sleep?? I’m also glad Fogle isn’t with Cass anymore. The relationships seem forced and I hated all of them. I’ll continue the series soon to find out what happens to everyone and see Venir meet his son, Brak. I’m looking forward to that!

Like the Simpson's gag alternate ending to Casablanca: "The End?"

Is it over? Did it ever really start? After 6 "Darkslayer" novels about warrior Venir and his bag of magic weapons/armor, the answer seems to be a resounding "No" to both questions. This "final" novel suffers the same fate as the first five of minimal plot beyond the immediacy of the scene we're in, zero character development (these are less characters than names on a page), and weirdly enough for a 6 volume fantasy series, almost no world building.

Despite 6 novels, there are only three cities that play any role in the story. They're largely indistinguishable from each other and the third of them is actually named the "City of Three." I can't tell if that's lazy writing or a clever troll (there are also trolls).

The first novel teased the fact that the world Bish was created by immortal beings as kind of an ant-farm to play with. This aspect was never explored or developed and author Halloran even had his immortal creators descend onto the world and assume human form....to go to taverns and do some wenching. Whatever gravitas this might have had was lost quickly.

One final note, the audiobook production of these series was atrocious. The narrator portions were fine, but all character voices sounded like they were coming through a bad phone connection and sounded muted and disconnected. There was also an inexplicable and inconsistent use of sound effects at random times that distracted and frequently there was an audible hissing sound during major chunks of the omnibus audiobook. Overall, an generally unpleasant and forgettable experience.

I debated how to word this review. Please remember this is based on the audio book.

Many times throughout the book, I had to go back a chapter just to double check where I was. It was quite confusing. There were even spots where it just totally skipped what transpired, as if it was missing a chapter in the book. Some chapters were repeated. This was very frustrating. A lot of people complained of a buzzing noise throughout the book, I did not hear the noise. There is also a sound board so to speak for the book, bar noise, storm sounds, etc. I really enjoyed this part of the book. A lot of people didn't if you read the reviews. I know some authors do not read reviews, but I find it discouraging that after a year or more of these books being in audio, that the author was unawares of the discrepancies in the audio book.

I really liked this story, so much so that I want to get the next series in this world. However I am hesitant because the audio reviews are similar about the noise and skipping chapters.

I'm not going to lie. I was very frustrated reading this book. Very high highs and low lows. My biggest complaint is not enough Venir/ Darkslayer action. Sometimes you go long periods of time with no Venir. When you do see him, he is getting his ass kicked, and it's like 3-6 pages. We give a lot of attention to Melegal. Why not make him the main at this point? Plus, there are tons of chapters about the many other side characters I'm not super interested in. It's not the best wrap-up or ending by far. But enough of being a cry baby. Chapter 66 and up this book are amazing. Just wish for more of that energy. I'm going to be a bit before I pick up another P.OV series and a bit longer till I come back for part 2 Bish and Bone.

I guess this is a love it or hate it sort of book, I liked the first 5 they were getting better with each book it was hard to put them down, until this one. I just don't get it maybe Craig is tired of the series, I can't even complain without major spoilers, in short this book just ruined everything, I wish I had just stopped unfinished at book 5.

Very disappointing ending

Overall the series was a thriller and I drove through the books untill I got to the end... the end... the end! The ending practically ruined the series for me if the ending was a bit more shaped to the story this series would have been great, overall the series was great but the end is what got me that is why I gave it two stars

I was saddened to come to the end of the series with this book. Then in the Epilogue I find there is another series!
