Gongyo: The Liturgy of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism

Rate this book
Gongyo is the recitation of parts of the second and sixteenth chapters of the Lotus Sutra, which practioners of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism in the SGI (Soka Gakkai International) do everyday. In this book, I write the words in an easier to understand format. Usually the spacing of the words is done to keep words together. However, it is challenging for newer folks to know where the syllables should be. Unless you can read the Japanese characters, or are very familiar with Japanese, it is very difficult to figure out (I have been told it is difficult even for Japanese people to learn gongyo!). In this book, I have changed the spacing to reflect how the words are actually said during gongyo. For instance, “Niji” is now “Ni ji” to make it clear that “ni” is the first syllable, and “ji” is the second. I hope this will make it easier for newer folks learning gongyo yet still be perfectly understandable to veterans of the practice.
This is not an official SGI book.
