I love this series and Heather did a fantastic job wrapping it up. Throughout the series I have loved Kate's wit and sarcasm. She is such a real character. She has so much depth and personality you can't help, but giggle at her. This is a must read series if you like a little paranormal with your contemporary romance.

"…When she was dying and saw Jared one last time before passing out, she had a moment of clarity. She was his forever and he was hers." -Kate

The Second Sight series is one of my favorite series. I fell in love with these characters from the very first book and couldn't get enough of them. Seeing this series end is bittersweet as all goodbyes always are, but I really enjoyed following them on their adventures and watching them grow. I'm happy that they finally got the ending they deserve. It was definitely a long time coming. The Final Omen, like the other books in the series, did not disappoint. The twist involving the identity of her attacker was pretty awesome. I'm not ashamed to say that while reading Dark Premonitions, I came up with my own list of suspects hehe. The person who ended up being her attacker was actually number two on my list so I sorta saw it coming but the twist on who that person really is totally caught me by surprise. Once you read the book, you'll completely understand what I'm talking about. I couldn't believe I didn't think of it before. It was very clever; props to you Heather! I can honestly say I completely enjoyed reading the book from beginning to end.

"Between the three of them, the man who tried to kill her wouldn't be on the run for much longer." -Kate

KATE

After the traumatizing event that occurred at the end of Dark Premonitions left her once again somewhere she's been before; in a coma. Once agains she's defeated death and as she's in this state, she finds herself speaking to Jared's dead mother Rose. Rose reveals to Kate that her survival is not a coincidence. Her attacker lurks close by and now she will have to face her toughest case yet. This time around, the pressure to find the culprit is ten times worser and also comes with more detrimental consequences as now, instead of saving the live of a stranger, she's working against time to save the love of her life; Jared. As she wakes up from her coma, she notices a change within Jared. His rage and need for vengeance is clear. She realizes that protecting him from harm will be harder than she thought. With the help of Declan, she works fervently behind Jared's back to catch her attacker before he does; out of fear of what he may do. The attack damaged her not just physically but mentally as well. She's become very insecure about her body to the point where she tries to hide behind her clothes but with the help of Jared she starts to overcome her insecurities. As she tries to live life as normal as possible, she concentrates on her maid of honor duties. Her best friend's bachelorette was supposed to be fun and celebratory, a night to remember but ends up being a nightmare. Her attacker finds new ways of terrorizing her to remind her that he's going to quit until he accomplishes what he was first set to do. It all comes crashing down, as the final showdown occurs where it first began. And finally after years of something always getting in the way of her happiness, she is now able to have the life she's always craved but never that she could ever have.

"…I think I might actually buy into this true love stuff." She sighed and added, "I met a guy and he made me believe in the possibility of being together always. We must be fated for one another if we survived everything thrown at us…" -Kate

"As grief-stricken as he was, a new sensation snaked around his heart-a black rage that called for vengeance. He would destroy whoever did this to her." -Jared

JARED

Guilt. Rage. Determined. At the beginning of the book, one thing is clear for Jared. Kate's attack would be the last time anyone would harm someone he loves. All too familiar with the pain of losing someone close to him, he's had enough. He hates himself for not being able to protect Kate but now he has a second chance to do so. He can't fathom losing her and can't see a future without her being by his side. Kate's near death experience made him regret some decisions her made, such as ending things with her after she confessed she kissed Declan. He knew she regretted it but he was stubborn and let that cloud his judgement. All the time wasted because he couldn't get over what happened could have been time spent together. This time around, he wouldn't make the same mistakes. He would do whatever it took to keep them together and most importantly alive. No drastic measure would be too much for him. If it meant killing her assailant, he was fine with doing that. In fact, he'd gladly do it. His need to find Kate's attacker ran so deep that he did something he never that he'd ever do; ask Declan for help. Together they become Kate's bodyguards to protect her from anything or anyone them deem as dangerous. As the investigation in Kate's case continues, her attacker keeps outsmarting them at every turn. He becomes really frustrated and one night he almost lets his rage consume him. When that fateful night came, the one where on decision could change everything, his love for her ultimately overpowered his need for vengeance. Now he can finally have the life with Kate he's always wanted; without the fear of losing her. He'll never have to be alone again or feel the pain of loss because she'll always be at his side.

"…I'm not sure If I deserve you, but I do see the ways you make me a better version of myself. All I can say is that every day I will try my hardest to make you happy. I want to be the man to make you smile and the one who you can rely on when things get tough. If I'm being honest, I began to fall in love with you the moment I came to you house and you tried to kick me out." -Jared

Overall, The Final Omen is a great ending to an amazing series. One that is filled with characters I will miss and adventures I won't soon forget. I'm hoping that maybe in the future there will be a novella of some sort where we can read about what they've been up to and maybe it could be a few years later where there's a little Jared or Kate running around ;-). Its just so hard to say goodbye to this characters. The Second Sight series is a definitely one I would recommend to readers who enjoy a great book series that will keep you at the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

Other Favorite Quotes:

"You made a promise to me. You told me everything would be okay. I'm holding you to it. You come back to me Kate Edwards, so I can finally tell you how much I love you." -Jared

"Her heart sang as she imagined a future as Kate Corbett. She trusted in their love and no longer believed fate had damned them to a lifetime of misery. Destines were malleable and involved a series of forks in the roads. She may have taken a few wrong turns alone the way, but she reached the destination with her love by her side." -Kate

"What do you see?" "I see a survivor. I see you fighting for us and coming back to me." He cradled her face in his hands and looked into her eyes. "You're here and the scar is a reminder to never take you for granted because each day we spend together is a gift." -Kate & Jared

I was the proofreader for this book so I got to see it before anyone else. Of course, I still ran out and picked up a copy when it was released so I'd never ever lose it. I read the first three books in the Second Sight series and fell in love with them. This one blew me away. Ms. Wood has really pulled out all the stops to make it both terrifying and sweet. Let's get to the review!

From a reader's perspective:
I love, love, love Kate and Jared! He's such a sweet guy. I adore the sweet guys and haven't ever really been into the "bad boy" who breaks girls' hearts and is a callous jerk. Enter Declan. He's a player to the Nth degree. I was glad when he finally accepted his lot in the last book and decided to leave Kate alone. In this installment, he's working with Jared as they try to solve Kate's murder. That was a twist in and of itself. *NOTE* This won't ruin the story because the boys teaming up happens in the first few pages of the book. I'm not about spoilers. Kate has always been a character I could root for. She's no different in this book. I was quite the strange kid growing up and didn't bask in the limelight so I can identify with her insecurities and social withdrawal. When I found out who the killer was, I choked. I totally didn't expect the twist and it left me horrified (which is GOOD). The Final Omen isn't bogged down with a ton of description and gives a lot of the meat and potatoes we all love. It was a wonderful and satisfying conclusion to the series.

From an editor's perspective:
The story had great flow, few errors, an awesome twist that wasn't foreshadowed at all, and a wonderful premise. Top marks!

My rating:
+1 Star for showing me a damaged girl who learns to love herself
+1 Star for a brilliant story
+1 Star for pacing and a wonderful ending
+1 Star for giving me an awesome twist
+1 Star for quality of writing

Overall, 5 out of 5 stars. Ms. Wood's best book in this series! I would recommend to anyone who loves a sappy romance tinged with murder mystery, action, and a great story to hold it all up.

Actual Rating 4.5/5 stars!!

Although I'm incredibly sad (and I'm sure you are too) that this is the last book for Kate and Jared and all of the other lovable characters in Wood's Second Sight series, I can guarantee that the conclusion will leave you satisfied. Heather Topham Wood knows how to write a good story and memorable characters.

The Final Omen begins right where the last book left off. We get even more answers to Kate's visions and how they came about.

Kate is just as awesome and just as snarky in this novel, not to mention very clever. Jared acts a little out of character making me uneasy here and there, but given the circumstances it's understandable. In the end I still love him. Declan is just as much of an awesome jerk as ever and Kate's mom is still sweet.

There are a lot of little surprises in this installment. Wood does a great job with the mystery story line of trying to figure out who Kate's attacker is. We also get some romance and friendship scenes which really round out the feel of the whole book. It satisfied all my bookish cravings.

Although The Final Omen was a little too short for my tastes, I felt like it could have been even better if it were longer, I liked that it was a quick read. Once you start you won't want to put it down.

If you have yet to read this series you really should. If you are already a fan then don't put it off any longer and grab yourself a copy of The Final Omen. Did I mention that the first book in the series, First Visions, is currently on sale on amazon for only 99 cents?! Well it is. So what are you waiting for? This is a unique New Adult novel. I can't say that it's the best well written novel ever, but I can say that it's a darn good story worth discovering.

** I received an arc of The Final Omen from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thanks Heather!

I really enjoyed this book. I will admit I skimmed through quite a bit of it because I wanted to know who tried to kill her and I was surprised. I will need to reread the series to see if I can catch any hints early on but I think in the final book there were some hints (one major hint that Declan mentioned).

I do have to agree with some of the other readers that it felt a little short and it could have been longer. I can understand how and why Heather skipped ahead 6 months after Kate gets out of the hospital, but it would have also been nice to have read about the month later bit when you are caught up on what had been going on after the bad guy was caught. But I felt like there should have been more.

This was a GREAT series and there were quite a bit of unanswered questions that were finally answered. I like how Declan and Kate make plans to continue to work together in the future and I think this would be a great way to start a series on Declan-while still featuring Kate and Jared. I think it's Declan's turn to find someone great to be with and a chance to see some of the cases that they take on.

I did find the bromance between Declan and Jared entertaining and it added a nice final touch to everything.

Even though I can't believe there won't be another book in this amazing series, I love the way this story was handled! This book opens right where the last book left off, with Kate fighting for her life, andJared, Kate's police officer boyfriend, standing by helplessly. As we know from the first book in the series, Kate woke up from a coma with certain psychic abilities. She is able to see visions of people needing help and she is learning more about these abilities as she goes through the process of helping them. Where she once was only able to see things that happened in the past, she has been able to see her own murder. Fortunately, though majorly injured, Kate manages to pull through. Jared and Declan, Kate's psychic partner, take turns watching over Kate to keep her safe. Only this time Kate has visions of finding out Jared has been murdered. I found this a hard book to put down without finishing it. The author managed to keep her attacker a secret from me until almost the very end. I highly recommend this book. I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I bought Second Sight: The Complete Collection (4 Book Bundle), but I am reviewing these individually.

I read this one in a day, it was hard for me to put down. I couldn't wait to see how it ended. This one had a bit more of a somber tone than the others. Given that it starts with Kate's vision of herself being stabbed coming true, it was understandable.

There were still some LOL moments, and I found myself warming a bit to Declan. He's not easy to like, but he's entertaining at times. I loved Jared, he's such a great guy. He and Kate were great together.

The mystery part of the book ties back into the previous books, and I didn't find it predictable or eye-roll worthy. It was a tense ending, but I enjoyed it.

I'm glad I read the series.

I can not believe how the series ended. I reviewed book 1 here. I was completely shocked and I had no idea how Kate was going to stop herself from being killed. Then when someone close to her dies, I was upset along with her. I could not believe it. The twists in the book were unexpected and I love how the author pulls you in and describes the visions so well that you feel like you are seeing them as well. The ending left me crying from joy. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy to review from the author, however all opinions are my own. I hope that this is not the last we see of these characters.

It's always bittersweet when a series of books has ended. You grow to know, love, admire, and sometimes despise the characters you meet. Once again Heather Topham Wood has drawn us into the lives of Kate and Jared this time it is a culmination of her Second Sight series. This book will definitely not disappoint her readers who have eagerly been awaiting this book! It was an honor to be given the ARC to read and be among the first to review this book.
I admire Ms. Topham Wood's style of writing and look forward to her next book!

I was lucky to receive an ARC for a honest review and so happy I was able to get it. I have been itching to read this book when I read the last lines of the third book. Final Omen keeps with the previous three books in the series. There was some tense moments, biting knuckles...saying it can't be so. I kept guessing who done it, coming up wrong. This is a must read. Don't want to say more in fear of spoiling it for others. I will be definitely buying this book when its available.

Satisfying end to a great series

I really enjoyed this book and the whole series. It turned into more of a murder mystery than psychic investigation but it did keep you interested. I like the witty banter between the characters and would like to see more in the future with their psychic investigations.

Perfect ending

Perfect ending to an amazing set of books.
My only complaint is her insecurities definitely get in the way of the story.
Over thinking anything drives me nuts & she is totally overthinking the entire way.
But…the ending was worth the journey.
Heather Topham Wood could well rethink some of her writing, but keep writing & it will be worth the read.

“The Final Omen”, the fourth and last book in the “Second Sight” series is one hell of a conclusion. I seriously didn’t see things coming and that means quite a bit.

After the third book ended with a cliffhanger that took my breath away, book four starts just as nail-biting crazy. After Kate has been attacked, her life is hanging by a thread – a thread so thin you expect it to snap at any moment. But it wouldn’t be Kate if she didn’t kick, scream and curse her way from the brink of death back to life.
She is such a fantastic female character. She has spunk and personality but isn’t over the top with it. Her emotions are realistic and easy to relate to. Her actions make sense and I had no need to throttle her – at no point of the story. That says something about how well her character was written. I love how she seems to come full circle and learns to accept her gift as well as herself. Throughout the story, she has grown and it was beautiful to witness this as a reader.
She also finally seems to find her place in her relationship with Jared.

And Jared is so raw and intense in this book – it is breath-taking. Set on protecting Kate from any harm, he is willing to move heaven and hell to ensure her safety. He would sacrifice everything he believes in and stands for if he could guarantee that nothing would happen to Kate. He has experienced too much loss in his young life in order to lose another person he loves.

Heather managed to show perfectly, that even people that live by the book and look at things as just black and white can suddenly consider the gray shades when horrific events threaten the people they love. But the consequences of straying from the good side can be disastrous and sometimes to protect the ones you love, you have to put away your pride and trust people you dislike. People like Declan, who proves himself to be a real friend – not just to Kate, but also to Jared.

The twists and turns in the story are outrageously breath-taking, yet realistic. It was the perfect mix of romance, suspense, crime, action and drama. I loved every minute of it and I’m sad to see Kate’s and Jared’s story end.

5+ nail-biting, head-spinning, breath-taking stars.

{my thoughts} – This book falls in sync with the previous three. Kate is rushed to the hospital. She has an in between world experience. She then survives and continues to have visions. She uses the visions that bes she can to help individuals while planning her best friends bachelorette party. During this time span she starts having visions of a lady named Michelle and her son. They seem to have been kidnapped. Jared and Declan try to help her find them but they have minimal success. Eventually she has a vision that helps to make a break through in Michelle’s case and another that helps her make one in her own case. Since her attack she had been trying to figure out just who it was that had wanted her dead. To find out what happens and who did it you need to read the book.

I will say I was shocked who did it. I wasn’t expecting it. I was thinking it was someone else the entire time I was reading the book. I love twisted endings and this one did not leave me disappointed. This was a wonderful conclusion to this series and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

this book had a different feel to it...

not a lot of psychic stuff going on...but at least we have answers...we find out who the would be killer is...

there was one big hint as to who it is which put me on that line of thought that it could be him and it was...

so am happy with the outcome though more psychic stuff would have been good as well
