This is the story of the only Messianic Divine time measure recorded in Holy Writ—Daniel’s Seventy Weeks. The truth of its interpretation begins with a journey back to the Protestant Reformation. It was during this period of Church history that this great prophecy’s commonly understood fulfillment was hermeneutically attacked and distorted. The confusing results of this theological assault are with us to this day and manifest itself in the teaching that a seven-year tribulation period is yet to come. This doctrine was birthed in Counter-Reformation Europe during the 16th century. What was this doctrinal assault’s ultimate purpose? Who first taught it? Why was this new interpretation of Daniel chapter nine rejected by scholastic Protestant clergy for centuries? Who were its authors trying to protect? What is the true alternative which was believed by all of Christendom for over a millennium? How has this affected our perceptions and understandings of Christ’s Kingdom? This book reveals the truth about Daniel’s 70th week. Its contents shatter the sand-built foundations of today’s popular 21st century Bible prophecy teaching, properly titled Futurism but commonly understood to be Dispensationalism!
This was a great case for explaining the Book of Daniel. It makes sense- however, it is based on the Historical view of the book of Revelation and seems to not understand the concept of Preterism hence disagrees with it. (Historicism and preterism is similar until you get to 70 AD). However it was useful in explaining the rise of Futurism and how it's infiltrated our modern christian culture. Explaining the 70 weeks of Daniel and how the time frame was precise in predicting the arrival of the messiah. I would even think that Daniel is probably one of the scriptures that he must have explained to the disciples on the road to Emmaus
Theologically correct for the most part, a refreshing read and instructional for those who believe the dispensational narrative. This book refutes the futurist view without going into unnecessary doctrinal detail.
Very informative. I had already changed my thinking on prophecy & this book confirmed it even more. I was hoping it would have more information about the Jews supposedly being "God's Chosen" but maybe there's one in the making
A good introduction to Historicism, but it only scratches the surface. When one studiously and carefully considers the claims made from a historicist interpretation, they must abandon the majority of "futurist" eschatology in light of revealed truth.
I've yet to fully adopt the historicist interpretation but it is certainly the one that makes the most logical sense and seems to best agree with the prophetic words in Scripture. At the very least it is important for those wise souls interested in end time events to understand there are other understandings beyond the ubiquitous Futurism.
Until recently I'd never even heard of the preterist and historicist views, why? In fact I never knew that my belief in a "pre-wrath rapture" was a version of Futurism. Indeed, accepting the historicist interpretation demands a wholesale re-evaluation of the "futurist-Christian's" present role and mandate to prepare the way of the Lord.
The "Left Behind" futurist propaganda, crafted by Jesuits Francisco Ribera and Robert Bellarmine" has a stranglehold on the bulk of modern end times teaching. It's time for the true church to question virtually everything they have been "taught" and hold it against the brilliant flame of God's word and see if their present beliefs turn to ash.
