After being driven from home by their brutal father, the Willitt sisters, Mattie, Nell and Renie, find themselves facing greater heartache in the wider world.

Anna reads 3 novels a week. Happy reading, everyone.
I read Elm Tree Road by Anna Jacobs over the Christmas break, what a treat. This book is the second novel in three book series following the twists and bumps of three sisters separated escaping a brutal home. I was looking forward to reading this book as I thoroughly enjoyed the first, Cherry Tree Lane.
Elm Tree Road weaves a tale around the middle sister, Nell. It's such a beautiful story, eventful with villains to grind your teeth and enough nice guys to warm your heart. I loved this book. Anna Jacobs has created a complex story with a memorable moment sketched on every page. ---- From me five well-earned stars.
Now I want to read the next book about the youngest sister, Renie. I'll be downloading book three of the Wiltshire Girls Series the day it's released. I have no idea what the book will be titled though I am quite sure I won't be disappointed.
Poor Nell being married to that awful man the only good thing was her daughter but even that didn't end happily for her as cliff because of his greed caused his child's death but she has the chance of happiness again read to find out if it happens and what has happened to her younger sister 5 STARS for another great read .
The story continues about Nell, her trials, heartache and search for her sister. I enjoyed the continuation and look forward to reading the final book in this trilogy.
Although I didn't like this second book of the series as much as the first, it is a decent read. The story of three sisters who run away from an abusive father tells the story of Nell this time. The year is 1910 and the setting Swindon, England.
Nell is the 21-year-old middle sister who has become pregnant by her boyfriend Cliff. She is running away to marry him and it has been decided she and he will take in her 16-year-old sister Renie.
Life is not as Nell had hoped as she and Cliff and up in a neighboring town to set-up house. The
The cycle of abuse and poverty continue and women are treated like dependent children/house slaves. The descriptions of life for a woman in this era is mind boggling as grown women are dismissed as second class citizens and mentally incapable of independence.
This is a good enough series to recommend to readers of historical fiction. I plan to read the last book in the trilogy.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I bought it as a ‘holiday read’ but such compulsive reading that I have completed the book and need to find something else to read on the aeroplane!! I shall look out for further writings by Anna Jacob. Not a soppy romantic book, not a book full of lust - but the main character, Nell, is one of three sisters who flee from their brute of a Father and follows her journey to find ultimate happiness. Believable storyline.
Great storyline and strong women are a feature of this book . I have not read the previous one in the series but picked the story up fine . Will be keen to read others by this author . Recommend to anyone who enjoys a family saga .
I thought after reading "Cherry Tree Lane" book one, and getting to know the characters there, I wouldn't enjoy "Elm Tree Road" so much. However I have really enjoyed, maybe more so.
I enjoyed the book its brings out emotions when you read of nells tragic life in the beginning I'm glad the story came to a happy ending no tears to shed
This was a second awesome book in the series. I just love Anna Jacob books. They are just so good To read and I can’t put them down. Onto the last one now in this series.
This is the second book in the Wiltshire Girls series and focuses on Nell the middle sister and what happens to her after running away from her abusive father, she does have her younger sister Renie with her for a bit but she leaves Nell so we will catch up with her story in Yew Tree Gardens. I found that this book was a bit darker and sadder than Cherry Tree Lane though it was nice to take the journey with Nell and see her come out the other side a stronger person. I genuinely love this series and would highly recommend it, I can't wait to check out Anna's other books too!

Just simply, a nice enjoyable read. I had read the first in this trilogy, Cherry Tree Lane quite a while ago, so honestly couldn’t remember a huge amount to it except that I had enjoyed it also. I didn’t need to worry – Anna Jacobs explains everything so well with her written word, that you can slip back into 1910 Lancashire with ease. Lots of ups and downs to keep the pages turning so if you enjoy historical saga’s you will love Elm Tree Road.
lessons that I learnt from this enjoyable book <3 I do believe that each woman has a hidden power to face the cruelest of life . No matter what she loses , she will always keep resisting. Harsh time make her believe in herself, be more stronger, and more confident. In fact, each woman should believe that time is the greater healer , and the best is yet to come .
keep resisting , you're strong and you've been through many hardships but still survived . Be brave and be proud of yourself .
When I read that this novel was set in 1910 in Lancashire I wondered if I would like it. I had read some of Anna Jacobs novels set in Australia at a more modern time and enjoyed them a lot. I carried on and found myself reading and reading until the end. A heartwarming story with a fairly predictable ending. A Goodread!
I love Anna Jacobs books. This one doesn't disappoint. We see the heroine tossed and turned by the storms of life but with love and a little fortune, all comes good in the end. An easy to read book with a mixture of people who interact with each other throughout the pages.
