Vina Jackson is the pseudonym for two established writers working together for the first time. One a successful author, the other a published writer who is also a city professional working in the Square Mile.
The first 3 books in the trilogy focus on Summer and Dominik. Summer is a violinist stuck in a bad relationship, the first description of the stodgy, prim ex was enough to convince me he was horrid. When she plays her violin she is in a trance, doesn't notice what's going on around, she appears mysterious which attracts Dominik. She is admired from afar once by Dominik when she is busking and eventually he manages to contact her and suggests to meet. The story of their courtship is full of surprises as Dominik has Summer play out some of his fantasies and she willingly obliges. It's an exciting game they are playing which could be seen as creepy but I found it erotic and as a musician myself could imagine myself involved (if only). As the books develop various characters have smaller parts and get revisited later. The plot surrounding her violin is simple yet interesting. Book 4 is about Luba who appears a couple of times in the previous books but this book gives a lot more detail about her past, how she got to the club in New Orleans where she saw Dominik and Summer first. Then, we are told the next year of the story from her angle, so includes the various times she saw or spoke to Dominik and Summer. Luba's story is slow to get going but worth it for the description of the tango dance and the love letter from Chey. The book is a very descriptive narrative with detailed history of the characters so you can form a picture of them. It highlights how small the world can be, with Dominik and Summer accidentally meeting, then Luba ending up in the same city as either of them on occasion, each finding out friends of theirs also knows the others. There's a girl with a tear drop tattoo who appears briefly in all the books and I wonder if we'll find out more about her later.
