Kristine Gavin was depressed about turning thirty until she received a most unusual gift from her brother. It was a portrait he'd found in the attic of their family home in Virginia, a portrait of a woman who must have been their ancestor, judging from Kris' resemblance to the beauty. But it wasn't the painting that intrigued Kris...
An old newspaper clipping about the woman's strange disappearance caught within the frame drew her in. Just as Kris was uncovering a fascinating secret from the past she sensed a change in the air - and found herself thrown back in time into a strange room, staring into the eyes of the sexiest man she had ever seen!
Sean O'Mara frozen when he saw his wife Christina standing before him. She had vanished and the news had been written about in all of the papers - he had even been charged with her murder! But now he had living proof of his innocence, and Sean was not about to let her get away. No matter that the woman was claiming to be someone named Kristine; she still caused his blood to boil.
Yet despite their differences, Sean wanted to hold the fiery vixen in his arms, caress her satiny skin, kiss her ruby lips and pledge his love forever with TIME-KEPT PROMISES
2.5 Stars, and a technical DNF. I had about 70 pages left, and I could only skim it for important parts.
This book started off much more promising than the previous 2, and I was invested until a little over halfway into the story. It quickly turned into a slog. This book was at least 100 pages too long, and it seemed to gloss over a lot of the romance in favour of the every day drama. The characters were mediocre at best, and Sean seemed all over the place.
The plot would have been interesting if it were a little more condensed.
This is one of the best books I’ve read in my life. I like to recap these on my YouTube channel and this one is definitely in my top 5. This is no ordinary time travel novel, it’s absolutely fresh, realistic and so damn good from the beginning sentence to the very last physical page with the Poor Richard’s Almanac quote. READ THIS NOVEL.
This was an excellent book, I couldn't put it down. I was really surprised by all the twist and turns of the story line. I am now a fan of Constance O'Day-Flannery.
Really enjoyed this story. Love time travel and this one was great. Even though you can guess how the story is going to turn out, it still held my interest with a little bit of mystery and intrigue.
This book starts off in the 1980's then moves back to the late 1800's (1870-1890? I wasn't quite keeping up with the dates. Our lead female Kriste (a news reporter) visits her brother and his wife on her 30th birthday. For her gift they giver he a portrait and a news clipping about a woman who looks just like her. While in her brothers office she is transported back in time to 2 days after the woman in the portrait had disappeared leaving her husband (Sean) as the lead suspect in her murder. Despite the difference in clothing and hair length the resemblance between Kriste and Christina (Sean's wife)is so great that Sean refuses to even think of the woman who appeared in his study could be any one other than his wife.
Kriste struggles to understand what has happened and where or even when she is. On her first day in the past she discovers that Christina was not a nice person (big understatement!). She sets out to improve how people see her (Christina) and slowly starts to break down the walls that Sean has built up over the three years of "private hell" that he has been living in his marriage. Just as he starts to warm up to Kris (who he still thinks is Christina), Christina's lover shows up and he see's him confront Kris in what he thinks is a lovers meeting. Later in the study he see's Kris and Christina together in an argument, in a struggle all three end up in the 1980's.
With out knowing when or how to get Sean back to his time (or that Christina is in her time) Kris take's Sean to her apartment in Philly. From there Sean starts to learn about 'modern' time and all the changes. Just as he gets a job, Kris gets a promotion and they decide to get married Christina finds them and starts to impersonate Kris and destroy her carrier.
So we have the usual twists and turns and a whole lot that I left out. The ending like any (except for in Gone With the Wind) is a happy one. I do reccomend this to any one who likes time travel but you might need a tissue. Again what I laid out is just the bare bones none of the meat, so if it sounds a bit dry try reading the first say 3 chapters, I promies that it will get your interest!
Time travel is one of my favorite genres. I was eager to read TKP because I have been looking for a copy for a long time. This would not be a keeper for me. I gave it 3 stars, because I really liked the hero and heroine.
I liked it... it started out to be very interesting and continued for the most part to carry it's worth. I realized that this book was one of THE 1st Time Travel books that were written and I read it as such. If you have the opportunity to get your hands on this one please do, it doesn't have a lot of humor but Kris is smart and makes the most of her situation (you'll understand this comment better once you read the book) What I didn't like was the time spent in his time is so short.... I would have rather had her time there be longer and not so much time spent in present day. Overall a good read I don't know if I would consider it a "keeper" though.
This was a really good time travel book where the protagonist goes into the past and then when she returns to her present time she brings someone (or two) with her. That is all the spoiler that I am going to say but let it be said this story has a few twists and turns.
Love this time travel book. It was really well written and I enjoyed every minute of it. I did not put this book down. I had to just keep reading. The end was so sweet and cute.
